  1. I had my house re-wired just recently and it turned out that whoever had originally fitted the Safe-T Cut box had wired it the wrong way round!

The (Thai) guy I used this time made a neat job of adding extra sockets, outside lights etc and was not expensive.

PM me if you want his number. (He does not speak English so you'll need a Thai to speak to him for you).

  2. Tesco and Big C are always good at giving correct and exact change.

I agree though SR, My AIS bill is usually x baht and y satang always rounded UP to the next baht.

Imagine how many thousands of extra baht profit they make if they do this with their millions of customers.

  3. I think the degree of comfort you enjoy on Seatran largely depends on which ferry you are lucky enough (or otherwise) to be on.

As Birdman says, some of the ferries are well air-conditioned with reclining seats that work - others don't.

My grouse is that the sound of televisions in the enclosed cabins are often too loud for you to be able to relax after maybe a long journey to Donsak

  4. I've just had three canopies attached to the house, two fixed and one retractable, not expensive imho you are welcome to come and look at them to see if they are anything like you are looking for, pm me if you want his phone no. Not sure if they can do a free standing one, but maybe worth asking. You may need a Thai speaker to get across exactly what you are looking for.

Costs are 350 per sq. metre for standard material, 550 per sq. metre for reinforced material - fitted.

  5. Budget at the airport especially if your friend is flying in, don't need to leave passport and can pay by cash or credit card.

No arguments about scratches/damage caused as pre-check done and agreed before you take the car.

Guaranteed full 3rd party insurance and very competitive prices. Also, you can book in advance.

    No brainer!

  6. Here's an anecdotal suggestion of how the road got its name, maybe not true but nevertheless interesting.

    The Ghost Road
Once upon a time there was a fairly popular bar set on Big Buddha Beach called the Beach Pub. Now this bar was run by Sem and Tuk and was located where the Secret Garden bar is today. One night Sem had to go to Chaweng to do something for his sister, and having stayed there until 3 in the morning , started the short trip back by motorbike to Big Buddha beach from Anchor House Chaweng. There was not much traffic in those days so the ride was normally uneventful and straightforward. Or so he thought, as just as he got to the wide open section where you can see the airport, Sem saw a figure in the road ahead of him, walking in the same direction towards the Temple at Bangrak. Now in those days the road was sandy and one had to be careful of losing your motorbike tyres in the deep sand which prevailed at certain points on the road, so Sem had to slow right down and come up behind the lady, and wait for her to move aside and let him pass. As Sem grew closer he saw that she was an old lady and had a "Khacheu" on her head with food and offerings to take to the Monks at the temple. Now a "Khacheu" was a round tray which one placed on one's head, but had not been used for many years by the local people , and it was the first time Sem had seen one. Now when Sem was behind her he was already wondering why this old lady was going to the Temple at such an early hour (5 o'clock would have been more like it) and why she had this thing on her head that hadn't been seen for 50 years or more, when she suddenly turned and stood aside to let him pass.........Now what Sem saw was a massive grim smile with red betel nut juice all over her teeth, and big black rings around her eyes and a face covered in powder. This apparition, as Sem is sure it was, gave our poor lad one hell of a scare, and you could hear him screaming a mile away over the roar of his motorbike engine as he fled the scene. He tore back to his room at the Beach Pub and told Dah his wife what had happened, and they huddled together in their room with the door firmly locked until the following morning. The next day at the bar the story was recounted several times, as indeed it was for several years afterwards, and people would often ask Sem to recount the story again...."Hey Sem !, Tell us the story of the Ghost Road"...... And that, my friends, is how the Ghost Road got its name, which is still with us today.

  7. From Nathon towards Lamui, turn right justed passed the Namuang waterfalls onto the 4173 about 200m on your left "Tops" screens you should see work in progress on his drive. I had a roller type screen made to measure (3m long) fitted for 2000bht. Hope this helps.

Sent from my iPad using Thaivisa Connect Thailand

    Thanks OS.

  8. Does anyone know where I can buy a small inexpensive canopy, maybe 2-3 metres long and 2m depth, to fit on a wall?

Can be permanent, does not have to extend and retract.

Ban Suay do them I know, but didn't want to take out a mortgage to buy one of theirs. xohmy.png.pagespeed.ic.shABmucp9T.png

It is to protect a water filter, pump and water tank + electric sockets, nothing fancy. Plastic or waterproof canvas would be fine.

    Thank you.

  9. THAI flight turns back after facing landing gear problem

    tnews_1393216890_3539-wpcf_728x413.jpg

BANGKOK: -- A Thai Airways International (THAI) flight to Koh Samui island has to return to Suvarnabhumi airport Sunday morning after the plane developed landing gear problem.

The plane made an emergency return and landed at Suvarnabhumi airport safely, airport director Raweewan Netarakavesana said.

She said Flight TG 281, connecting Bangkok and the popular tourist island, left Suvarnabhumi at 7.45 a.m. but had to turn back after the captain discovered problems with the landing gear.

The plane landed safely at the airport at 8. 50 a.m.

Passengers were transferred to a new plane and they arrived at Samui airport at 10.10 a.m.

Mrs Raweewan said THAI engineers were inspecting the plane’s landing gear.

The plane took off at 7.45 am on a 50 minute flight to Samui but instead landed an hour and 5 minutes later back at Suvarnabhumi?

So it must have been more than half way to Samui before the problem (whatever it was) was spotted at around 20,000 feet?

  10. Just got back from being talked in to going for the first time. Much quieter than I expected.

Overall impression, attractive and well designed. General quality of finish good except for the walkways which were disgraceful, especially on the first floor.

Virtually all the 'market' stalls were for women only. (Maybe that's why they have 'ladies parking' at the Chaweng end of the car park. Wider lanes? Only joking! tongue.png )

The food hall was more expensive than Tesco/Big C, but on the other hand the portions were much bigger and quality higher, could be considered the main meal of the day rather than just a snack. Recommend Will Waits there, food same high standard as in Nathon.

Tops are selling large jars of Marmite for 289 baht for those who have read the mossie thread.rolleyes.gif

  11. what towns is best to go for border bounce? Thanks

Depends entirely on wheher or not you 'go it alone' or use a visa run company.

If you are driving (a car) yourself, for me I find it easiest to spend a couple of days away, catching the 11 am ferry, staying in Songkhla the first night, leisurely drive down to Sadao or Padang Besar next day, back to Songkhla stay overnight and back to Donsak for the 3pm ferry.

Don't forget to visit the duty free shop at Padang Besar whilst you're there.
