  1. A bit more compassion for the victim from some posters would be a good thing.

The guy was sitting there minding his own business, playing on his iPad. Minutes later he was dying from a knife wound and some people here use it as an excuse to crack jokes about the former prime-minister or Burmese migrant workers getting the blame as in a high profile murder case from recent times..

I feel some people really need to get a grip. If that was YOU or a member of YOUR family I doubt that you would find it so amusing

  2. Afternoon all.

I'm going to Savanakhet tomorrow to apply for a tourist visa. I was going to take the bus, but since I've just brought the car up here I am now thinking I will drive.

My question is- can I (along with my fiancee, the owner of the car) drive across the bridge and in to Laos? Or will we have to leave the car on the Thai side of the border and if so is there ample, (reasonably) safe parking?

    Thank you in advance thumbsup.gif

  3. 2000-3000+ Baht. The bigger / nicer the car, the more it will cost.

Of course you can carry a lot more luggage in certain models of vehicle but with most regular taxis you will be lucky to get a single suitcase and a small bag on top of the huge gas cylinder they keep in the back of those things.

Thanks everyone for your help. A normal taxi will do.. we'll take a suitcase between us and a small bag each.. and some beer money ;)

Thanks again all. Have a good weekend

  4. We all have to adapt at different stages during our lives. The world can be a harsh place. I wish the very best for all of mankind, not only women in a declining sex trade.

The family debt aspect is worrying for sure.. It must be a great stress to young people (mostly females) who support entire family groups.

I love Thailand and Thai culture in many ways, but I do not agree with the pressure that is put on daughters to "pay back their mother for giving them life".. Thankfully this is not exploited in every family, but some get a really hard time and continue to be slaves to the grind. These are the ones I feel for.

Deep down I would like to scream at them to wake up and see that they are having the **** taken out of them. It wouldn't change anything though.. so they must adapt

  5. I've only been to Bangla rd a handful of times and on EVERY occasion I've seen western tourists, many of them Australians behaving like complete *******s!!

Why is one of them whipping his shirt off in the middle of the club?

I'm not condoning what the bouncers did either, but there's more to these kind of assaults normally.

I'm sure there's plenty of wrong on both sides.. the guy who got the worst of it was probably unlucky and paying for one of his mates actions

  6. It was the London Embassy that I called as I was already aware that they were the only ones issuing by post since Jan 2014. That much is stated on a document that accompanies the visa application form.

Difficult to know whether to bother sending an application because of the inconsistencies in the information provided.

I could just come in on a 30 day exempt stamp and then go to Savannakhet and apply for a double or triple there, right?

I have heard that they are experiencing having issues because of the number of Laos nationals trying to get in to Thailand, so I could go to Vientiane instead if necessary and apply for a double entry there instead. Sound fair?
