  1. I am confused, I just called my school and they confirmed that nothing has changed. I got my visa before October 2014 so before the doubling of hours, and I have got one year still. Not 6 months

And how can they make students having their visa before a law is passed, be subjected to that law?

Are they applying the law retroactively ?

That's illegal in any democratic country

I talked to the immigrations officers and MOE officers, theses rules are not new, schools has been informed last year. They just didnt processed the documents in time, and according to moe it happen everyday. At the end MOE dont receive any letter saying that you r changing to the next level of studying then ur visa get cancelled

the school tell u then that new rules n that u have to leave to get a new visa

i will go to the bottom of it, but it s easy to point fingers at the immigration or moe as the school know that nobody is gonna question them..... too bad for them I m doing that

So if the school gives MOE the application letter that your level will change from Beginner to Intermediate when applying for the 2nd year of ED visa, there would be no problems & you would have one year, not 6 months?

it was not for the 2nd year it was after 6 months... let see if the MOE can process the documents faster ... or not

  2. I have the same issue...

I registered at W language school (Asoke branch) in August 2014.

Got my 1st extension just when rules started to change in October. From there, the school asked to come within one month with extra fee for the additional hours etc. I brought my passport to front desk in November as requested to go through the formalities, and was told by the staff that this had since been waived and that the letter would be ready next month.

So I returned early January right after new year to enquire again for the letter, as my extension was within 30 days. I was told by front desk staff with a big smile not to worry, that the letter was ready for extension and that I could collect it one week before the extension date.

I went this morning and was told... completely different story: that I must go for test, pay for the extra hours requested by the new regulation (which is understandable), apply for a new extension letter (which takes around 4 weeks)

I come twice a week at the school for study and enquired November, December and early January about the extension and was obviously given the wrong information. The staff did all they could to fix it (as well as cover for the staff who kept giving the wrong information).

The concern being that my extension expires in 1 week... so the W school staff told me the only way was to be overstay until getting the extension letter... Well...!!!

if the rules been changed a few days ago how can I get the correct documents to apply for a new visa in time?.... meaning in a week

If the letter was ready for the extension when you went early Jan, why didn't the staff give you the letter there & then?

they said it was ready but they didnt process anything, at the end they talk like it s ur fault not theirs and their solution is you leaving the country to get a new visa.... then you can come back studying as they have no intdntion of paying you anyghing back for their own mistakes

  4. Continuing from my post here: http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/781616-1-year-ed-visa-nope-its-not-true-anymore/

Seems BKK & Phuket don't have 1 year ED Visas anymore. Would be good to hear from Walen the forum sponsor what he has to say. According to his site 1 year ED visas are still on:

Students who enroll at our school in a one year course are eligible to apply for a one year non-immigrant ED visa. With this visa you do not have to leave Thailand every now and then but can stay here continually for one year.

It is possible that students do two courses of 6 months in duration one after another. According to the present law they are not required to leave the country after 6 months if they continue their studies so they can stay here one year straight on an ED visa if they continue learning. After one year they will need to leave Thailand and apply for a new ED visa.

    Walen School

    Good evening Mac

I went today to get my documents for next week extension and the documents havent been processed then I end up without any doc. The staff told me that anyway my ED Visa is for 6 months and end up on Feb 4th ( I got my ED visa on August last year). You are saying that we are not required to leave the country after 6 months if we continue study....l think we have to sort it out tomorrow as I m really wondering who to listen (the staff in asoke saying something, the manager something else and now reading you...

See you tomorrow at Asoke office then, I will call the office before, hoping you get my msg

  5. I went today to the school office and asked about the documents for the immigration as I have to get my extension next week, then they started to ask me if I had any plan to leave the country soon. I said Yes I have to leave next month for 2 weeks, then they told me your visa expire on feb 4th and you have to apply for a new visa!!

In fact they didnt process the documents and as always it s not their fault but mine.

I got my ED visa in August last year and it seems that for those who has some writing on the Visa sticker they cant get more than 6 months visa then have to apply for a new one after that

Students in my school get 7 days, some 30 days some 60 days, nothing more than that, and it all depend on the school you attend.

no much choices now, considering switching to a Tourist Visa....

is it true that the rule changed weeks ago about the 6 months ED visa ? or is it just some BS as anyway they didnt processed the documents to the Ministry of Education

The rule is that you can get extensions for up to 90 days at time, for a maximum of one year.

    http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/index.php?app=core&module=attach&section=attach&attach_id=280330

Then for example Bangkok is making that even worse ,while other places don't.

At the present time going to tourist visa lets one save money and much hassling.

I got a Simple Entry ED visa and It seems that it s not for a year anymore but 6 months max, any info ?

it seems that it depend on the school and if the officer write some info on the Visa sticker or not, my friend got no writing then go for a year and me 6 months :(
