  1. Hi,

right now my IP provider's (I am using 1-2-call GPRS) DNS server is very unreliable so I get a lot of timeouts or unresolved addresses.

Can anybody recommend a reliable DNS server address in Thailnd?

Now I am using an European one, but I guess that slows down connect time a bit, better to use a Thai DNS server.

    Cheers, Ernie.

  2. Hi,

I bought a new 1-2-call SIM card today, and the shop did not require me to register with my passport etc.

Well I thought mai pen rai and just went home. the phone worked no problem.

But I am worrying now that AIS might turn that SIM card off if they don't get a registration form with that number.

Does anybody know what the procedure is?

    Cheers, Ernie.

  3. I have gprs built in already and I am using 1-2 call prepaid for normal phone calls. When I bought the phone at Telewiz they set it up for me. Whenever I start GPRS I get the message we will now deduct THB 30 for set up. And THB 30 is really deducted from my normal prepaid phone card.Asking Telewiz to rectify this they said you wanted it, we can not change anymore. If you want to use separate prepaid GPRS services we will have to sell you a new sim card first and then we will install prepaid separate GPRS for you.

    Thats it.

Sorry guys I still don't quite get it:

If I wanna do GPRS with a prepaid 1-2-call SIM do I need to get a special GPRS SIM card to get around this expensive 30 Baht charge for each use?

    Where can I get these?

Can anybody recommend a AIS service center or other phone shop in BKK where people speak good English and would know what I need and how to set it up?

    Cheers, Ernie.

  4. Yes - you can use it with your usual 1-2-call SIM. Top-up with 500B then call *138 and press 1 for English. Select GPRS packages and you will be talked through the set up.

    Great stuff!

Is that 500 Baht top-up a special GPRS top-up, or just an ordinary top-up card available everywhere?

  5. I'd go with 1 to call - 200hrs@500B = 0.04B per minute - about 25 times cheaper than DTAC. Never had a time-out once and have downloaded 5 meg files no problem and seem to be able to browse faster than dialup...

Might be cause I've got a class 10 datacard? Not sure :o

    Jez

Can I use this with an ordinary 1-2-call prepaid card?

    I assume I need to buy a GPRS topup for 500B ?

Can you recommend a phone shop where they speak good English and would sell me the right thing or even might help setting it up?

    Cheers, Ernie.
