  1. There have been reports that the VIP pass is no longer a available.

I think that even if it was still possible she would not be able to do it as a Myanmar citizen.

She can get a re-entry permit at immigration for a fee of 1000 baht. If she is on a long term extension she would have to do it at the immigration office where she got her extension.I

In Malaysian Thai embassy , when I apply thai visa for her, I try to request 2 entry for her. If the visa allowed her for 2 entry, then no problem for her to re-entry back from tachilek to mae sai, if they give single entry only, then she need to apply re-entry permit at chiang mai airport when chiang mai airport...thank you

  2. If you have a Myanmar visa (no, not the little entry stamp you get when you croiss from Mae Sai but ratyher a full-blown visa obtainable at the Myanmar Embassey in Bangkok) you can stay overnight in Tachileik. There is a nice new hotel just North of the main tourist market area accessible off the main highway. Don't remember its name.

No visa? Stay in Mae Sai. The Wang Tong is not bad (good breakfast). This time of year about 800B.

Do I need the Myanmar visa to tachilek?there are no longer us this entry permit to enter the tachilek anymore? please advice.

  3. In this coming February I and my Burmese wife will go to tachileck to meet her parent. So I need to stay there 4-5 days.We will from Malaysia flight to chiang mai and she apply Thailand visa in Malaysia, when we arrive in chiang mai airport then apply re entry permit Thailand for her.

  4. 1. If she has Myanmar passport she should not have to pay anything. Not sure why there would be taxes to pay.

    2. If she has a visa that allows more than one entry she would not have a problem on entry. If not she would need a re-entry permit or she would loose her current entry when she leaves.

    HI ubonjoe,

thank for u replied..can she apply the VIP pass at mae sai Thailand immigration bolder?

    1. VIP Pass

This is the one to use if you do not want to affect your current passport/visa, e.g. you have permission to stay in Thailand for longer than 15 days and want to keep it that way.

Ask the Thai immigration officer at the border about a VIP pass. Passes cost 100 Thai Baht. You will be directed to a local shop and told to photocopy a particular page of your passport. When you return, the Thai immigration officer will give you a VIP pass and keep your passport.

When you arrive at the Myanmar border, you use your VIP pass instead of your passport, the rest of the process at Myanmar immigration is the same as 2 below.

When you return to Thailand you exchange your VIP pass for your passport. There are no changes made to your passport. Your passport does not show you ever left Thailand and if you had 80 days left to stay in Thailand, you will still have 80 days left.

The other way is to use your passport and is described below, and you will be given permission to stay in Thailand for only 15 days (including date of travel to Tachilek).

  5. I thought heading up to Mong Lar was no problem. What I don't get is why a guide would be required if you enter on a border pass but not on a visa. The fact that they hold your passport at the border if you arrive on a 14 day border pass is enough incentive to go back the same way you came. I agree that it's ridiculous.

On the other hand, going overland via Mae Sot/Myawady is a breeze and become easier and easier. Now cyclists are allowed to cycle across and over to yangon etc. if they want.

Hi, I would like to know regarding the tachilek immigration, im Malaysian my wife is Burmese. in this Feb I will bring her to tachilek. I scare any troubler in tachilek immigration.

    1) when she went back to tachilek from bolder of mae sai, did her need to pay tax in tachilek immigration? or any question problem in tachilek immigration?

    2) she holding Thailand visa, she need to apply Thailand visa when she come back to Thailand?

  6. A VIP pass is a temporary entry to Burma that doesn't involve using you passport.

Present your passport to Thai immigration with 2 photocopies of the main page and 100B.

They keep your passport and you pick it up when you come back.

    You can find information here:

  7. My wife is just back from a visit to her grandmother half-way between Tachilek and Keng Tung. The situation there is

horrible, with extreme poverty and malnutrition, rampant drug use, mixing poisons (including rat and insect poison) with the speed and heroin being manufactured (she has somewhat distant relatives who have been working doing the mixing) and animal disease (buffaloes, cows and pigs frothing at the mouth).

The international media neglect to report on this, perhaps to help preserve some (unwarranted) optimism for international investment in Myanmar, but Shan Herald Agency for News reports that drugs seized recently were burned by The Restoration Council of Shan State / Shan State Army (RCSS/SSA) seized drugs on Sunday, 7 April, on the Sino-Burmese border township of Namkham (according to the SSA South, as the RCSS/SSA is commonly known), including 55,171 methamphetamine tablets, 6 ½ viss (10.4 kg) of opium and one penicillin bottle of heroin. With drugs seized earlier, including more than 130,000 methamphetamine pills, they were turned over to Chinese authorities, said an SSA South officer. A burning ceremony took place at the Nawng Ma Tai base, witnessed by 486 invited people. Most of the yaba (methamphetamine) pills were red WY (10-15 pills per ¥ 100) and reddish brown 88/1 (6-8 pills per ¥ 100), explained Lt-Col Zawm Mong, commander of the Nawng Ma Tai-based 701st Task Force. Namkham township is one of the most notorious

drug producers and users in Shan State.

“Drugs are more dangerous to the people than all war weapons,” Sao Mao Hsai, deputy to Lt-Col Zawm Mong, told the audience.

SHAN also reported that due to recent clashes between Shan State Progress Party/Shan State Army (SSPP/SSA) and the Burma army in the Loi Zay region, Tangyan Township in northern Shan State, thousands of local people in the region are fleeing to the township seat.

At the end of March during the fight between SSPP/SSA and Burma army’s Infantry Battalions (IB) 33 and 291 and Light

Infantry Battalion (LIB) 322 intensified. The Burma army units were attacking SSA bases along Loi Zay range; they shelled the SSPP/SSA bases, also firing “knowingly”, according to sources, into farmlands and villages. It is reported that the shells landed in villages resulting in many losses. Following the shelling, Burma army soldiers also confiscated and looted villagers, a Lahu militiaman told SHAN.

My wife says lots of kids have weapons, with which to hunt for food in the forests. Young girls, however, often do not have underwear. Hi
