  1. My experience tells me to warn you against buying a Samsung! We bought a Samsung 51/2 years ago and there was no end to the problems we had with it. It go so bad that after replacing almost every part in it, I began joking that we should have bought two of the units originally, and that way we would have had all the parts that were needed to fix the one unit that we were using. We finally got to the point where we gave up on it when the latest part that broke was going to cost over 2500 baht..... and this had happened when the unit was out of warranty (which at that time was only one year). I guess the reason they decided to give out a 10 year warranty is because they were getting such a bad name and had to do something to overcome the bad reports. We moved it to another of the bedrooms that we're not using and had a Mitsubichi installed in its place. That was two years ago that we made the switch, and we couldn't be happier with the Mitsubichi. Our electric bills are a lot lower than they were with the Samsung, plus the only maintenance that is ever done is when we get the unit cleaned every 4 months. But it is good to remember that no matter what unit you purchase, you need to have it cleaned regularly if you want it to run properly and not use anymore energy than is required. Good luck in your search, but my recommendation is to buy a Mitsubichi and stay as far away from a Samsung as you can get!

  2. I would like to know if this couple had the same problems as I'm having getting a visa for my wife to vacation in Canada with me. We have been married for over 5 years and tried unsuccessfully on two occasions to get a visa for her without success. At the end of this year we are going to try one more time, but if that fails to produce a visa, my wife has said she will not try again. I know there are people who try to deceive Canada Immigration so they can get into the country and never leave, but I don't believe they should paint everyone with the same brush and prohibit honest people to simple have a vacation in the country!

  3. The fact that Thailand ranks so low will come home to roost when the full impact of the Asean Community kicks in at the end of this year. Maybe then the power that be will want to rethink their stance on giving English such a low priority in the education of its students. It always amazes me that with so much of the GDP of Thailand based in the tourism industry that so few people in this industry can speak or understand English, let alone write it!

  4. How can the navy say, with a straight face, that they need them to protect the marine natural resources when the fishermen are fishing out the waters so fast that there won't be anything left for them to protect. Do they ever look out over the waters at night and see all the boats out in the Gulf with their lights on fishing out all the squid and anything else they can catch? This will just be another colossal waste of taxpayers money that every government believes they have the right to do!

  5. What makes them think the price of oil is going to go up? Russia's whole economy is based on the oil and gas industry and as long as the world price is down, the economy will remain where it is. Also Russia is feeling the effects of all the sanctions placed on them for their support to the rebels in the Ukraine and the invasion and consequent annexation of the Crimean peninsula. So unless TOT knows something that the rest of the world is oblivious to, their forecast is out to lunch.

  6. The comment about there not being any competent civil engineers in this country is so true! I'm sure everyone must have noticed where a roadway meets an overpass there is a huge bump because the road wasn't allowed a gradual rise from further back so as not to cause such a sudden change in elevation. Every overpass I have ever driven on in Thailand is this way!

  7. Who wants to go down with a Chinese sub for protection? Or the 1930's Japanese deal? The Chinese subs have an expected life span of about 5 years, as reported in a press release. The Japanese produce some fine cars, but will they be as good as say a Lexus?

At the end of the day the party invites have been sent out but only the scavengers are turning up?

They are clutching at straws to hoodwink the Thai public that it’s the fault of the international community that the government is being spurned. These guys suffer delusions of their own self-importance on the international stage.

To go after the sub deal with China, will be a greater injustice than the rice deal; as the constitution written by the military excludes them from any legal action after the event.

Guess what Chris ....... Lexus cars are made by Toyota.

  8. Now if we could just get BTS to do something about the bottleneck that is created by there not being modern technology installed that will accept bills and not only coins. It is a crying shame that if you don't have the correct change, you have to go to the wicket and exchange a bill for some coins. The technology does exist and it sure would move things along a lot faster. I guess the first order of business is for the powers to be at BTS to give a damn. They mustn't have to ride on the system or they are given pass-cards so they don't have to wait in the long lines.
