  1. I was shocked at the AU exchange rate and the general cost of things in tourist areas. I just recently attended the MOTO GP, coming from Bangkok, after, we then went to Phuket for a few days to visit friends.

I have no problems when i return to our village near Chum Phae, but it does hurt the wallet when i want to go for a blow out.

My other friends were discussing the same issues, they are now going to the Philippines for new years as a result.

I like Thailand, and my wife is Thai, so i have an emotional connection in some form, but it is obvious that Thailand is becoming more expensive and we will be visiting other countries now a little more, and less time in Thailand ????

  2. Would be ignorant to say no foreigners throw rubbish. But in my time, Thais are woeful, and if you are not sure about that, go to a remote township with minimal to no farangs residing, and see the crap everywhere.

Phi Phi island, has rubbish boats docking regularly. I haven't been there for some time now, but last time, the boats were overloaded, rubbish was not contained and fell overboard easily. From the mainland to the island, one could just simply follow the path of floating crap, you wouldn't get lost.

It is very sad, as Thailand has some beautiful coastline.

Having a shoreline with a distinct waterline marking of rubbish doesn't really get one interested in taking a dip.

I try my bit, however insignificant it is, by picking up said crap everywhere, and asking for my one bottle of chicken soup not to be double bagged in hardcore plastic bags, and reuse the shopping bags ( with startled, shocked expressions on Thai faces ).

    It's probably more about education....

  3. I used to highly rate Thai Airways, but now i have discovered Emirates and they are like chalk and cheese.

The fact that Thai fly direct from Brisbane to Bangkok matters little now, I much prefer the service, comfort and cleanliness of Emirates from Brisbane to Singapore, then hop on a small budget airline of Jetstar Asia.

    Sooooooo much better ?

  4. One of the reasons why i have shy'd away from Koh Tao and Phi Phi.

The garbage boats that turned up to Phi Phi were overloaded and not well contained, i was there about 2015. I can still remember a trail of rubbish from leaving Phuket till Phi Phi. Not a constant thick stream of rubbish, but floating plastic 600 ml water bottles were a regular site, plastic bags/wrappers etc.

Koh Tao, i picked up a hessian bag full of rubbish around 300m to the North of the jetty, found syringes, endless plastics. Really sad. Tyres, general rubbish and netting under water, having a big impact on the local reefs.

Every morning the water line on the sand would be made of rubbish.

A post can be viewed on bookface, of a recent divers experience in Bali. The underwater world was under attack from floating plastics

The soundtrack of the VDO is why I wouldn't go there. Who, that cares about the environment, wants to go somewhere that is infested with unmuffled longtails going in and out all day long?

Even the lower right hand photo shows many boats.

It's the same reason Maya Bay has been ruined and is being destroyed- too many boats, too many people.

One day, perhaps, LOS will learn to preserve the environment and not destroy it, but not yet.

    Very sad.

So i am guessing, as per a lot of images that paint a false picture, i should add a million tourists and a million longboats to the pictures :(

Thanks guys but, IMO, all your info is 'out-of-date' coz i see no such options today.

And RichCor, the 'usually' must refer to yesterday.

I'm  flying 26 March so hardly too late to pay.

Yeah, i could be wrong but no progress today.

Kinda angry at AA for the situation.

Here's what i find now.  Policy at AA has changed and now for cash payment at 7/11 must sign in to Counter Service vendor prior to service.  And i found this is certainly not what AA wants you to do coz it's very difficult to locate this on the AA website and must read Thai to make any progress.  I ain't signing in so will find another method.

That's a surprise mate. It has happened to me a few times but it was due to being to close to departure date, and the missus said the same thing in regards to being to close to the date.

    Good luck.

  7. Jeezuz.

    Fairdinkum. This is frustrating.

Are you saying your son was 39 years old a few years ago, now is living with you ?

So what. He's about 42 ish, and hasn't sorted his s**t out ?....you dont want to interfere because he is an adult!!!!!!!

And you ask a question about " please give me advice or are you worrying about nothing ?

You are at fault as much as your tool of a son.

Sorry. But i will be honest here...surely this is a joke right ??

He didn't beg nor did he go on social media.

A Thai movie star did it.  ( try reading the thread  )

So I guess that will be at least two trees you will be cutting down. Make that three because you will be wanting to cut my tree down I suppose. In fact, if you are planning on  major deforesting  you had best get yourself a chainsaw since you are going to be needing one.

"Oh, my company hasn't paid me for 2 months now, i have a wife and child....oh well, nothing is wrong, but my money is getting low...."

"Oh now it has been 4 months since i have been paid....things are getting a bit tight...."

5 months = " I'll just lay down here like a bloated whale, shit myself and get my wife to deal with that, while people in social media land give me their hard earned money because they feel sorry for my wife and child"

Show me your tree, i will gladly hack it down for you

Oh dear, the hard men have arrived.

Let's beat up this guy without having a clue about his circumstances.

I have a friend,  90 years old, 7 years overstayed. Husband died and his kids took everything. She's had a home here for 50 years.

Do you want her address so you can go also her around hard guy?

Dont come on social media and beg for others to cover your shortfalls and shitness.

If you breed, be prepared to take responsibility, support and make sure for tough times.

This grub is nothing but a grub who is now begging and can't even dump and wipe his soot pipe.

You too, can flick this bloke a lazy 30,000 baht.

    Cheers

Why worry if other people want to give him money, up to them, you just sound mean.

Yeah. I am mean, when it comes to western men who don't prepare themselves.

Someone working who doesnt get paid for FIVE MONTHS !!!!

Please, alarm bells would or should be ringing after a month.

    No sympathy for this bloke.

The wife and child, yes, i feel for them. Because they have this bloated oxygen thief kickin back waiting for the bleeding hearts of this world to provide him with free money.

Work and prepare yourself like the rest of us . Pretty simple really....
