Wow!
I understand they couldn't give him the death penalty, but 8 years????
That's insulting!

This will be another catch 22. When you don't pay your police force a fair wage, they have no choice but to sell favors and do whatever it takes to supplement their income.
If turning a blind eye to prostitution gets them kick-backs, they can't afford not to do it

Hello, I was wondering if there are any special provisions in place that might provide easier access to a retirement visa for a foreigner who's worked in Thailand for 20 years or more (as a licensed, accredited teacher), with a Thai wife and children born here.
Thank you,

Sadly even though Thais have set up an elaborated system of setting up English Programs, hiring so many foreign teachers over such a long period of time, the work ethic practiced in schools prevents any real learning from taking place. Except among the few most motivated, learning is not taken seriously. It's all just a show
School days are cancelled too easily, meaningless activities are invented as excuses to cancel classes, and little heed is paid to the damage caused by these disruptions.
No wonder kids don't take it seriously when admin is so quick to take them out of class

Why don't Thais understand that extorting from foreign visitors hurts themselves badly?
Thailand's reputation as a tourist destination may not recover for years.
...and that's only if they start taking steps to fix it TODAY!
>>Tourist Police chief Adis Ngamjitsuksri has conceded the extortion of tourists was a problem which the police alone could not stamp out.Of course not, why would the police want to cut off this big income source?

What a shocker! Do you think overblown charges of mat-theft from Aussie bars will help or hurt those numbers?

This story cannot be good for Thailand. Anyway you slice it, it doesn't add up to more than trivial. Then to have the police actually defend it as reasonable, makes it look even sillier, and them silly, to boot. "
If I were the police captain, I'd personally pay the bar owner for the silly mat just to let it go. Classic case of burning dollars but saving pennies.

Fascinating how "The Land of Smiles" can shoot itself in the foot by closing their airport stranding and alienating thousands of Westerners during the holiday season; then realize "Hey wait a minute, we need tourists, let's try to put a 10 cent bandaid on this massive problem that actually requires a tourniquet

or... Perhaps it was a Christmas present gone awry!
Maybe he'd planned to give her the hammer as a gift but during his clumsy demonstration of its correct usage, he failed to meet the benchmark which would have constituted a beneficial instruction method.
or perhaps he was justifiably upset that she had over a period of several months refused to learn how to spell their last name.
or, he'd recently discovered that she was in fact a planted spy from False Corporation

Australian beats wife to death with a hammer in BangkokPublished on Dec 23 , 2005
An Australian man was arrested Friday and charged with beating his Canadian wife to death with a hammer, Thai police said.
The arrest took place shortly after the body of Barbara Lynn Mceod, 61, was found dumped in bushes in a residential area of Bangkok, according to police Maj. Gen. Kosin Hintow.
Her husband, Stewart Keith Mceod, 44, went to police early Friday morning to report that his wife had left the house and not returned for several hours, saying that he was concerned both for her safety and his own.
Detecting suspicious behavior, police interrogated Mceod for several hours before he confessed to beating his wife to death with a hammer and disposing of her body in the bushes, Kosin said.
Mceod, an employee of True Corporation, a communications company, is in police custody pending trial, while the body of his wife has been sent to the Police Hospital for an autopsy, police said.
