Since your carcinoma is on your cheek a scar there would not look so bad so might not need the more expensive plastic surgeon.

The lesion on my cheek is small but complicated, according to a PS I consulted in the Philippines earlier. She said some skin on my face would have to be "pulled sideways" to cover the wound... like two triangular flaps?

She quoted 45,000 pesos for her fee, and about the same amount for hospital theatre fees and follow up testing. All up around 90,000 pesos, or about THB 55,000 (approx).

In addition she requires pre-surgery blood tests, ECG, blood clotting tests ... and written permission from my cardiologist for me to stop taking some meds 7 to 10 days prior to procedure.

I am a registered member at Chula and so maybe its better to look for a PS there to do the job....

  2. My biopsy results show Basal Cell Carcinoma on my face (right cheek). Dermatologist recommends that I see a Plastic Surgeon in Bangkok. Anyone have any idea what the procedure and follow up would cost at a BKK public hospital such as Chulalongkorn. Any help and and advice appreciated.

  3. Hi all. I need to find a painter in a hurry to repaint my 3 condo doors.. front door, bathroom and bedroom. Nothing fancy just a basic job with standard white paint. Juristic painter wants THB 39,000 for 10 days work on this small job. I told him that's way too expensive for such a small job... but he won't lower his price. Any helpful ideas or contacts very welcome.

  4.  Hi. Any landlords out there in TV forum? I have a condo in Bangkok which I rarely use as I am now living abroad. Its just sitting there vacant for most of the year, so I thought about renting it out.

My juristic admin manager, who manages several units for absent farangs, says he will handle everything (for a "reasonable" fee) -- finding the tenant, preparing the lease contract, and depositing the rental payments to my bank account every month.

Sounds fairly simple and straight forward. But what is the downside... what could possibly go wrong, besides the tenant defaulting on his rent or damaging my property?

For example, could there be issues for me with the Tax Office or Immigration Dept (TM30) or some other problems. Any advice and suggestions from TV forum landlords welcome and appreciated.

Best of luck and keep us posted.

Thanks for ALL replies... very helpful. Yes i think that a bilingual school may be the way to go, as his Thai language is basic.

So can anybody suggest or recommend such a private school in the lower Sukhumvit area? Preferably, with a school bus service to collect him from home in the morning and deliver him back home after school?

  6. Hi all. Can anybody tell me if a farang child (not Thai parents) can attend a Thai government school in Bangkok?

My boy is aged seven, and I want him to enrol in a Thai government elementary school, if that is possible.

If that is NOT allowed for farang kids, can anybody recommend a budget priced private school in the lower Sukhumvit area for him? We cannot afford the fancy international schools, just a "reasonably priced" private elementary school.

Any helpful suggestions and advice appreciated.

You get a a 30 day visa exempt entry not 28 days. The 30 days includes the date of arrival.

Yes that is technically correct. But on my last visit at Don Muang I got only 29 days... my plane arrived around 12:30 am and I was in front of the IO by 1pm (0100 hours). But he stamped my passport with yesterdays date. Maybe because he was just too lazy to wind the date forward on his rubber stamp... or just forgot. Who Knows?

Anyway it doesnt matter to me as I always plan to be out of the country a few days ahead of the last day.... but I can see how it may matter to some tourist who have booked outbound airline tickets for the 30th day.... ?

  8. Hi all. My doctors in BKK have suggested I buy a walking stick because of balance problem (ataxia) when I try to walk. I know there are plenty of aluminium adjustable ones available, but does anyone know where I can get a fixed, wooden walking stick in Bangkok? A shop not to far from BTS or MRT in the city perhaps?

It is a little hard to suggest which neurologist nto knowing what the differential diagnosis is,

Thank you Sheryl. My local doctor (not in Thailand) has suggested I have an MRI brain scan to see if I have a brain tumor, which he thinks could be a possible cause of my dizziness when I am walking.

I want to get a second opinion on this from a Bangkok specialist... and perhaps have the MRI done at Chula. So I will try Prof.Dr. Roongroj first and see what happens.

    .

  10. I will be visiting Thailand soon for health checkup at BKK Chulalongkorn Hospital. My head is feeling dizzy any time I walk, and I have tried Serc tablets twice a day with no change. My local doctor says it is not vertigo, and he recommends seeing a neurologist and getting an MRI brain scan.

Can anyone recommend a good neurologist at BKK Chulalongkorn? And do I make an appointment on 13th floor at Chula?

  11. I may be heading to Thailand soon for a medical checkup and possible surgery.
I can walk a litte bit, but maybe not all the way from the airplane to immigration... and then outside to a taxi.

Does anyone know what wheelchair assistance is available at the two Bangkok international airports?

Does my airline arrange this, for a wheelchair attendant to meet the plane?

Can the wheelchair guy take me thru passport control and outside to get a taxi?

And any idea what this wheelchair service would cost? Any helpful advice and comments appreciated.

A little under 200K baht for one stent, more if multiple stents.

Thank you Sheryl. I am guessing the 200k includes the cost of the preliminary coronary angiogram... and for the stent, injected dye, and use of the Cath Lab at Chulalongkorn.

But what about the fee for the intervenion cardiologist and his team? And what about cost of CCU stay for a couple of nights... and maybe a night in a basic private room.

A "rough estimate" figure of total cost for this procedure would help me prepare a budget for this, for when I get back to Thailand. Any updated appreciated....

  13. I am not in Thailand right now, but I was hoping to find out the average cost of a Coronary Angioplasty (and stent implant), plus doctors fees etc, at a government public hospital in Bangkok, such as Chulalongkorn. Also any recommendation on finding a good Cardiologist at Chula. Thanks in advance for any helpful advice and suggestions...

  14. Thanks for your concern... but many Chinese herbal medicines have been used successfully for hundreds of years and proven to be successful alternatives to some western drug company pills which have severe side effects.

I am asking TV members for a pharmacy (or chinese drug store) that sells alternative herbal medicines... somewhere in downtown area or on the BTS or MRT line...

  15. Any BKK herbal meds for hypertension and possible mini stroke? I am walking around dizzy and tired. And last week I fell down on the cement and busted my nose. Lots of blood and pain, but I am out of bed now after one week.

My blood pressure is higher than normal for systolic, over 150. I am taking Clopidogeril blood thinner daily and doctor wants me to take Losartan (ARB blocker) or Anapril (ACE inhibitor) as well.

Any ideas re ALTERNATIVE herbal capsules/supplements like Kyolic formula.. or CoQ10... or Ginkgo Biloba? Are they any good for hypertension... and to prevent a stroke....and where do I find them in Bangkok? Thanks in advance friends....

  16. Well here is my take... I dont care what the new building looks like... as long as the Thai staff there  will renew my passport when it is due  time....

About the new location... far more convenient  coz not to far from BTS station.

About the old site on South Sathorn... many good happy times there... especially the old Friday night  "Sundowners" booze up with beer and real meat pies flown in to the embassy  by Qantas... .... and then later the Sundowners crowd would hop over to Patpong for a night cap.... ahaha the mammories...

Departure immigration does not care about anything but your your permit to stay date shown on your entry stamp to confirm you are not on an overstay.

So if you fill out the TM6 arrival card and get a visa exempt for 30days.... thats it right? No need to worry about any TM30 form? Just make sure you are out of the country before the 30 days are up?

The consular officer asked for copies of my passport id page and flight out of Thailand.

Thanks for the Penang update. But what happens if you havent yet booked your flight out of Thailand? Do you still get the visa... or do you have to head back into Georgetown and buy an airline ticket?
