  1. Ethical high road from Trump's Administration? You have to be daft to think or hope that will ever happen.

Having to choose between environmentally safe products and incur a lose in profits over continued use of products that poison the environment and destroys people's lives should be an easy decision...if you are not filled with greed...[emoji857]

Controlling greed...finding a fair balance between profit and environment is a world-wide issue with no easy solution...[emoji848]

The US should take the ethical high-road and discontinue products that are under investigation...[emoji106]

  2. You are not a tourist. You like thousands before you are attempting to live in Thailand via repeated unending visitor visas. Good luck continuing this impropriety and getting back into the Kingdom. Things have changed and Imm is seriously cracking down on exact visitors like you. Marry or job in Thailand then you have a legitimate reason long term stay visa.

  3. You've been lucky. It may run out. You're not a tourist and Imm will call you out sooner or later, and not simply by asking for outbound flight. May ban you. Who are you fooling? Vast majority of your time is in Thailand years after year after year, that's living in the Kingdom, not vacationing as a tourist.

Proof of leaving with METV at DMK

Immigration at DMK Don Mueang airport now requires proof of leaving for people with METV Multiple Entry Tourist Visa.

I would have thought this is all over the internet already (a friend entered on 4 Sep on an SETV from Cambodia and was asked for proof of leaving as well). Do others report the same, from other immigration checkpoints as well?

I arrived last week after a week-long visa run. Immigration officer did look longer than usual at my passport or the screen, then asked me “What do you do here?” – “Tourist” – “Please follow me.” Then another officer asked me for proof of leaving Thailand. I didn’t argue that holders of an METV don’t need proof of leaving, but asked what I can do and they told me book a flight on my mobile phone which I did, and then was processed without further problems. The problems seems to be that something has to be filled in on departure card “flight or vehicle number”.

But what if I’m planning to leave over land? The field on the departure card is “flight or vehicle number” so I would just put in the bus or train line (Aranyaprathet or Nong Khai, which is still in Thailand)? And what about doing an extension from 60 to 90 days? My problem is that I don't want to commit two months in advance to exact time and location of visa run, rather leave that decision to some weeks before my 60 days are over.

My visa history: German citizen under 50 years old, the last 6 years I have been spending about 8 month a year in Thailand on (following numbers are estimates) 4 METV 2016-2019 from Thai embassy in Berlin, 4 SETV 2014-2015 (Vientiane, Penang, 2xSaigon) and 2 visa-exempt to fill gaps. My traveling pattern is incompatible with illegal working in Thailand (at least that’s what I think, how could you hold a job in Thailand if you spend two months in Germany in summer, a month in Taiwan, and a week elsewhere every 60 days – I don’t do extensions any more, I leave before 60 days)? So it must be the number of TV entries, or total time spent in Thailand (but 8 months a year is not unreasonable?).

  4. Not basic healthcare for expats in (perm residents of) Canada. Basic medical free of charge, gov't paid. USA medical costs are insanely high and private businesses.

Yes,  but a LOT LESS  than they would in almost any western country.   Its all relative..... i have learned
not to complain when the oil change and tune up costs me 175 baht on my motorcycle.  Should i make a face and say that two years ago it cost me 160 baht ?   I smile and think how bloody cheap things are here compared to US or Canada.
  5. Exactly. Well stated. Wish those under 50, unmarried, without job in Thailand would c Lue in that they cannot live in this or most other countries without meeting certain criteria. And that is not back to back to back to back tourist visas!

No, living as in residing here for an extended period, irrespective of social security and health insurance - something to which many if not most Thais have no access.

Look, Thailand's visa rules allow for tourists to enter for sixty days, which can be extended by another thirty days. Three months as a tourist. If you want to live here you need to fulfil certain criteria (less onerous than for many countries!). If you have a properly constituted job then an appropriate visa (non immigrant B) can be obtained. If you are married to a Thai then you can get a non immigrant type O. These are also available to retired people over 50 with sufficient funds. If you're under 50, but fortunate enough to be "a person of leisure" then the "elite" visa is available. But the authorities have made it quite clear, and are now enforcing the rules to ensure, that living in Thailand on back to back tourist visas is not accepted.

The queues at Savannahket may well get longer, but I suspect that they will also turn away people seeking consequetive tourist visas. It is, quite simply no longer an option. There is ample provision for visas if you wish to live here, according to the rules laid down by the country.

  6. Definitely want to do things in the correct mansion. Wrong house and there's obvious problems. And make darn sure you pick a tattoo artist that can spell two.

That is awesome to hear, very positive for the tattoo community here. I takes very little effort to do things in a correct manor. Good to hear you have had positive experiences here.
  7. Same in Canada.

    That's not true.

If a Thai lady marries a falang, and the couple moves to the falang's country, they will receive permanent residency after submitting the appropriate papers. In Australia, if they are still married after 2 years the permanent residency is confirmed. There is no English test.

All Thai spouses get full access to Medicare, can work in any job, can access all services that Australian citizens get. This is from the day their application for permanent residency in Australia, based on marriage to an Australian citizen, is accepted by their local Immigration office and they have paid the fee.

Compare that to Thailand. Falangs married to Thai woman get nothing except being able to stay in Thailand on a year by year basis with no gaurantees.
  8. You've quoted the economic theory and effect of 'elastic demand' , and is not accurate as 'capitalism' . Some products or sevices do not increase volumes or demand in proportion to price decreases. This is the economic theory and effect of 'inelastic demand and net revenues actually decrease in such cases. Examples are rent or car repairs or petrol. Will you rent an additional condo or do more car repairs or purposely drive more if prices incrementally drop? Not likely.

bah!  inflation is the excuse for govt theft and graft. bah! prices should go up because some neighboring countries charge more BS! - basic capitalism dictates 'cut the price and increase the volume and higher overall income'.

said it before, reduce or eliminate the retirement bank deposit / mthly income and the 50yr age requirements, (sure, keep the criminal background checks), welcome all retirees to come and spend in thailand. watch the income grow!
  9. I brought my wife over on a five year visitor visa and applied for permanent residence from Canada.
The whole process took 3 years even with help from the local MP. Just completed last October. It's
a very frustrating process, it's like the paper work disappears into a black hole . Every three months they spit something out then go quiet for another three months. She had no problem returning to
Thailand November to March each year.
No such thing as 5 year visitor visa to Canada. Let's not mislead our readers of this blog. There is however a multiple entry visitor visa for up to 6 months at a time, but visitor has to leave the country and return again after a time lapse. There are some exceptions where if a Permanent resident application is pending applied from within Canada, the visitor applicant may be allowed to stay in Canada full time until the Residency decision is rendered. Not sure how that exception is applied for nor approved as it is not an option in the Permanent Residency application.

Not sure KK has an airport? Obviously you don't know too much about KK and perhaps shouldn't be advising others on its livability. Population over 100,000, of course it has an airport. Sheesh!
