  1. There are three bike shops on Chang Moi, heading away from the moat. The first one Top Bike is the most expensive, mountain bike style. These can be very comfortable, especially the full suspension, because the bounce alot (take up the road shock) Pricey.

I forget the next one, as it is a combo bike and motorcycle shop. Medium expensive.

The third one, is on a one way street (you enter going the wrong way!) that splits diagonally off to the right a couple of blocks down (toward the Ping River). It may be just before the little canal bridge. Up the street about 20meters. On the right. Motorcycle and bicycle parts in front, often putting together a cruiser bike with a spring loaded seat that you might like. There is an English speaking girl there who is about 25 and wears glasses.

I found their prices to be the best.

You might also ask the folks at the Sunday Cycling Club where to go, as they have a 300 person network of frequent and infrequent riders, many over 50 years old, who might have suggestions on where to get the bike you want. You can get more info by calling Niramdon at 053234094.

Sorry I'm not in CM any more for a while, or I'd show you the shop myself. Good Luck. The Sunday club is a great group to start riding with, very friendly, short rides, some English speakers. They meet on Sunday at 7am for a ride. I think they swing by at 8am to pick up late comers, but I'm not sure.

  2. Besides the Chiang Mai Mail and City Life, where are the listings of interesting events for the English speaking...(and trying to speak thai language) folks in town?

For example, there was a Health day Festival in town with many members of the Sunday Cycling Club giving talks on various topics, interpersed with kindergarden cheerleaders, and international sustainable develoment students.

I'd like to know where to find out about film fests, community art classes, the protest of selling wild animal meats at the zoo, etc.

Anyone got some good leads or invitations...post them here.

    Thanks! :o

  3. My girl friend (who speaks thai) and I spent the morning looking for a listing of events in CR for today...SUnday..but no luck. So I guess that CR doesn't have a daily newspaper which would list events. The tourism office is out of that monthly tourist magazine....

So where do folks go to read about the events in town? We saw the sunday bicycle club rolling by...but they must be listed somewhere....

    Puzzled...in paradise... :o

We've got 3 days in the area before we head back to CM...anymore festivals or interesting events this week?

    Thanks.

  4. The last two days, Nov 25-26, saw the Handy Indy fest in the square with over 1000 people enjoying music, theater, crafts, art and workshops primarily provided by youth. It was very refreshing and serendipitous. I hope you folks got out to see it.

    :o

Is there anything else like this planned?

  5. DO NOT FORGET    sunday 16 oktober 9 a.m. DOI THUNG bicycle event  everybody  is welkom    see you all

    Jozef,

I see i missed the Doi Thung bicycle event last week. How did it go?

I often lead a bi-weekly ride in my town....It's called the midnight mystery ride...only one person knows where it's going...the leader...so everybody sticks together...more or less... and so we take some unusual routes and bike trails through the city.

Here's a news report on it.

Anyway I will be up in CR in December...any rides planned for then?

    Best wishes

    Jeff

    Mobaan

    Hey Guys,

I'm does anyone know where I can find out about bike events in BKK or CM areas? ( I know I'm in the wrong forum, but this is the lively conversation on the website).

I help sponsor bi-weekly bicycle mystery rides in my town in California, also bike fix-up for kids and now during our bus strike, for adults.

I'd love to attend a critical mass or bike fest like mentioned above, back in 2003. I'll be in BKK 9 of November and CM th 15 of November. I'll be around until end of Dec.

    Thanks for your suggestions
