  1. Most people try to avoid the pickle by doing it early - there is no early penalty - the extension starts at the end of your current permitted to stay stamp on a tourist visa.

But you should be OK. Just go there Tuesday morning and you should not have a problem getting the 30 day extension of stay.

Well, I was trying to avoid the pickle--or any fruit or vegetable preserved in vinegar, for that matter, by going one day early.

I have been to immigration on Saturday many times before (great for visa extensions--no lines!) and had no idea Immigration would be closed this Saturday!

  2. My tourist visa expires tomorrow, on Sunday the 19th of August. Knowing they would be closed tomorrow, I went to the Immigration Department on Suan Phlu today (Saturday the 18th). Surprise! They were closed for three days (18, 19, 20) for the elections!

So, can I go in on Tuesday the 21st and get my visa extension then?

Will they hit me up for an overstay fee?

Will they even give me a visa extension if I am there 2 days after my visa expires?

I could make a run to the Cambodian border tomorrow (Sunday the 19th, the day my visa expires), but there is no way I can get an onward ticket today to show at the border tomorrow--so I might be screwed there as well.

Has anybody been in the pickle before? What to do?

  3. There are loads of systems like this in Thailand apartment buildings these days. I haven't used Cyberpoint, but I have used similar systems.

The web-based login is just that--a login for the Internet service. Once you have logged in via the web browser, the Internet server oopens all ports for all programs (email, games, chat, FTP etc.).

Or at least that's the way most of the systems work.

  4. I am looking for information on how to (or if I can get) EDGE (EGPRS) service for my phone; I have AIS One-2Call.

Of course I looked at the AIS / One-2-Call websites and, as can be expected, the site is a Falsh monstrosity: pretty, noisy, blinky and totally useless for finding any information. (Why are there so many websites like that?) If somebody has a link to something in English--I would love to see it.

Also, any experience with EDGE services in Thailland?

Is AIS the way to go for EDGE--or is it worth getting another SIM for another mobile provider?

  6. As a Native Chicagoan I have to see this!

Does anybody know where they are broadcasting it live?

I know--it's at 8:00am in Bangkok, but surely there is a bar that is goign to host the festivities!

(After all, it's not baseball without a beer in your hand and other rabid fans around!)
