  1. Been raining heavy the last 3 night in the N.E. so water is coming your way. But it might take a weeks or so to get there so best to stock up on bottled water.

    I will be moving soon to LOS, but here are my thoughts based on living when young with an unreliable hand dug well, and for the past ten years on the Colorado (desert) Plateau;

    always have several days water supply stashed, preferably in a tank that can be "switched" into the domestic system, but at least in gallon and larger sized jugs.

    Install your own biologically safe filtration system. If cost is a big factor stick to a smaller one that can at least meet drinking water needs.

    If your family owns the building install guttering for rain catchment. I have about 8,000 liters stored in two large tanks that have come from our "monsoon" rains over the past month.

    It may all seem obvious, but how may of you have it? biggrin.png

  2. "sustain the ecology"

    No water for growing food to sustain farmer but water to keep lawns green.

    There's something wrong with the Junta's priorities.

    How is it the junta's priority, they are talking about tap water for the people. They can't police everyone what they do with that water just like they cant find all the farmers that still use water.

    You love blaming the junta but not everything is in their control.

    Here in my village they still water the lawn too.. but this water comes from a canal not from the tap. How do you know where the water comes from. ?

    No robblok, that is not what the article says. It says 5 for drinking and 13 million to sustain 'the ecology'. A very vague term that can easily be called watering the lawn, pumping to the bottled water producers, and is rather skewed and focused on the city instead of the local farmers.

    The "ecology" factor is likely the same as the situation in California. Farmers and anti government types are howling because irrigation has been shut down while water is permitted to flow into the deltas and ultimately into the ocean. They blame a bait fish conservation movement, but the simple fact is if the flow does not meet a certain rate, then salt ocean water will back up and cause a salt desert for the foreseable future.

  3. In all fairness to the hard working staff at the hospitals, they often either have instructions or simply do it, fill the order from the Doctor with name brand drugs, not generics we may often compare prices to. As an example, Cipro and as I mentioned elsewhere, some widely produced blood pressure medications. Not to digress, but your payment method also could have a impact. Insurance paying, government paying(and government hospital), or you a farang paying cash. I know for a fact certain brand name drugs are not dispensed to those on Government insurance plans. Generic for one type of patient, brand for another. Lastly, when someone turns 50, she starts to wonder and worry about such things and the safety of same. Which brings me to "Obamacare" and the question what drugs are covered under same, if any?

    This is fairly old, but I see similar questions still. "Obamacare" does not "cover" anything except the way in which medical insurance providers do business, i.e. it is no longer legal to discriminate on the basis of pre-existing conditions, and certain preventative care procedures must be offered.

    You need to do some research to find out what insurance companies offer what you need. "Obamacare" is unlikely to affect you if you are living in Thailand anyway.

  4. Lots of blanks in the equation, Seadigital, How much is a "show" wedding likely to set you back? You indicate no sin sod, so there is the likely major expense gone.
    If it would not hurt financially, and it would make the ladies happy, why not? Sounds like a good excuse for a party.
    If, on the other hand, it seems like a wedge in the door for ever increasing financial "needs", I would be reluctant. Never heard of a show marriage ploy, though.
