  1. I managed to live in Phuket since I was 24 years old with my then girlfriend who has been my wife ever since (I'm 58 now LOL)

I did this by working in the Oil Business all those years and rotated in and out of Thailand. However, the oil business being what it is today us white folks are being outsourced everywhere by cheaper (and less experienced 3rd worlders).

I have a couple of ideas for you

1/ Do PADI training up to instructor level and find work as dive instructor in Phuket there are a bunch of Expat divers doing just that and they make an OK salary here, I assume they are legally employed.

2/ Try and get involved in the Yacht Brokerage / Charter business here, there are quite a few expats in this industry

3/ Learn / Qualify as Yacht master / Yacht master instructor and try and get skippers position on a private or charter boat.

4/ Start a bar or coffee shop with your girlfriend and make your living that way

I hope this will help inspire you, think positively!!

    cheers

    Colin

  2. Hi KidAle,

If you look down the Soi leading to the Ao Chalong Yacht Club there are some quite nice places down there and it's the Phuket Town side of the Chalong roundabout.

  3. I haven't been totally honest about the situation as it is rather complicated.

I actually do have a Thai wife but the marriage has been in trouble for a long time and I am planning to divorce. Right now I have a one year non immigrant multiple entry O visa for Thailand. I have been working in Abu Dhabi on a rotational basis where my proposed (Chinese) wife still has a residence visa, so now basically I want to know how she and I can live together in Thailand as I have lived there (phuket) for many years and still feel it is home to me. I am also considering setting up a business to do chartering with my boat in the near future.

Big changes and all rather unsettling!

    Your Advice is much appreciated....thanks!

  4. I am just over 55 years old and have a Chinese wife who is 15 years younger than me. If I show 800k baht in a Bank account and get a retirement visa based on that, would this also be valid accepted method for my wife to be able to live with me in Thailand or are there further complications due to her nationality.

  5. The problem with jet ski's are that many tourists do not realise that in order to have steerage you have to power up the throttle. I once saw one go into the side of an anchored yacht because the tourist operating it let off on the throttle and then turned the handle bars......nothing happened.....it still went straight of course......right into the boat!! JET SKIS ARE DANGEROUS IN INEXPERIENCED HANDS.

  6. I've been watching this series on the BBC about the Bangkok Airport. I have come to the conclusion that farangs are absolutely horrible people. Always expecting to be taken care of. Yelling, swearing and crying when things don't go their way.

If I was a Thai, I wouldn't want these horrible people in my country. I'd make life as difficult as possible for them with the hope they would leave.

Think about it next time you throw a shitfit here in LOS.

I think Farangs in this category are a few minority cases which the BBC focused on.

I have lived in Thailand for over 33 years and most Farang I know are very patient when it comes to dealing with the Thai bureaucracy.

The government actually makes life pretty hard for those of us who are long term resident and we contribute considerable amounts of cash into their economy............ and the best they can do is a one year visa??

I am considering leaving to another country where we are more welcome.

try to get a your company personnel rep to draft you a letter stating your name and that you are an employee of their company that routinely enters and exits Thailand for work or business purposes.

The above is really not a good idea at all, they would probably turn him around if he didn't have a B visa in his passport .

I was at the Ao Chalong yacht immigration center not long ago and one guy got turned down entry because he had been in and out too many times & got flagged. I don't know if he had a proper visa or not....probably not, just getting the standard one month or whatever on arrival. He was told to report to the main immigration office in Phuket town, so I don't know what finally transpired for his case.
