  1. I did this years ago and I did have to show the divorce papers.

Your situation may be different as you have already been recognised in the relationship as per your current visa situation and in Oz, I presume she is on a tourist visa ?? And having a child and all with Oz citizenship makes things much easier.

Just remember one thing, whatever they ask for, provide double if you can, except for cash of course. But being a spy, I do accept doantions as spy pay is not all it is cracked up to be.

You may only need to provide documents that the divorce process is under way but yet to finalise.

I suggest you get an email for someone here and fire them off this question and get an exact answer. Then print the email and keep it on file. If you want someone to contact, I can get you an email....after all I am a dima spy :o but really I can, if you want.

  2. We spent a night, many nights actually, but one particular night on top of a mountain on the Burma border in a cosy little cabin. Very cold, good for cuddling and an open fire outside. The stars were out in force up there and if you get up very early the next morning, you can see the valleys below covered in cloud.

But its a long way away.

  3. :D oh my golly gosh, now I am a spy for DIMA...well Bronci, your spot on again, thats 100% for you. Actually I am a spy for ASIO, so watchout.

Yes, I presume that I am the only exception over an 8 year period. Funny you should mention Gemma as I have had dealings with her and she helped me with my last requirement. Your file must be marked in big red letters 'extreme caution, fragile, handle no more than once a year' :D

Spy, lol... that song paranoia paranoia springs to mind....and they let you lose with a moderators licence lol.

Maybe we can get Gemma to bring in a spy kit for you from Oz, sure if I asked nicely she would help out :o

I'm going to Embassy Monday for a new passport also, wish me luck :D Talking sweet always helps no matter the country or the language. poot narak narak 555555

Lindsay, passport is easy. The 10 days usually takes longer, but as long as you are aware it is no problem. If you need it for a flight before this, then they do rush them for an extra charge.

Make sure you get the person you deal with phone number and call them in 10 days to see if it is ready.

Also do you know about the new smart passports and the photo requirements. Phots need to be very specific and if you go to the kodak photo shop in Sathorn, just down from the embassy a few buildings towrds Rama 4 you will see it, I think it is in the Thai Wah ??? building, maybe the same one the Banyon tree is in from memory.

But this shop is recommended by Oz embassy because they have been instructed on how exactly to take the pics by the embassy. Saves any problems later.

  5. HomePro has Jack.

I have seen these and 2 places that come to mind are Central Chitlom in the garden section and a shop down the road from the Farmers Market opposite JatuJuk market. This shop is an irrigation shop with pumps and stuff out the front, but they have forks and spades, but not always in stock.

I also vaguely remember robinsons at ratchada may have had something, but not sure on this one, however if your in the area, maybe worth a look.

  6. Funny, I have had good experiences in the oz embassy ever since 1998.

Visa for gf issued in 4 months.

    Copies certified for free.

Passport pages copied and certified for free.

Visa for relative issued same day.

Passport for daughter issued 4 weeks.

Some people I have witnessed in there losing there cool and ranting and raving and complaining just probably get a red sticker stuck on their files. This red sticker means 'go slow'

As for the security, what is the problem with it ?? Considering the problems Oz has had in nearby Indonesia, I do not blame them for beefing it up.

To get through security takes all of a few minutes for christ sakes.

  7. Forgot, just make sure your lease is tight, water tight. I have leases that I wrote ammendmants to myself, bumping up the strength. My lawyer then beefed it up some more in legal speak !! He is jewish and excellant at his job.

If a tennant does not commit to a lease, you should have a case against them especially in a commercial sense. If your lease is stronger to start with, you can get all sorts of things compensated for in your favour.

  8. I feel that Thai people love to bargain in everything.

What about you while in Thailand?...

Do you love bargaining now?...it’s just a fun game!

Or the situation forces you to be like that?

Or you bargain to protect your rights and not let other people cheat from you….no one can take away your hard earned satang easily!

Do you ever bargain with the police fines? :D

And... Are you any good at bargaining at all? :o:D

...or you even feel shameful sometime? :D

Yes I have bargained with a police fine on 2 occassions and got one down to less than half.

I never feel shameful bargaining here, simply because they will rip you off blind if they have the chance. But it is all about doing it in the right place. Some places it is accepted, others not.

I have gotten prices down to less than an eight of what they were originally askeing. An indication of the overpricing to start with. just remember that they will not lose money, they will not sell to you if they are losing, so if they are willing to sell something at a price, then you can guarantee they are making money on it.

I have had people ask for say 1800b for something that I know I can get on the first ask for at least half of this. So why would I feel uncomfortable returning the favour.

But, at times and in certain places as I say, it is not the done thing. For example driving home from Chiang Mai recently we stopped at a road side stall, selling fruit and vegies. A Thai 4wd pulled up in front of us and my missus went to buy some fruit. The seller was a little old lady living behind her stall, growing her own produce and selling it to make a quid. Bananas were 10b etc etc. My missus bought what she wanted and paid the asking price. The Thai family tried to bargain down the little old lady for 10b. My missus is Thai and she was pissed off at the Thai family and felt sorry for the little old lady.

Another example, a builder was asking for 1,200,000 for a job, he eventually came down to 500k.

Oh and I have also paid a fine with a large not and received change.

  9. Ok, but if he wants your shop to buy, then it is up to you if you want to sell or not. If he is desperate for it, he will pay a good price. Do not weaken.

If he wants to rent it and you are in the middle of 2 of his shops, again he will want it and he is just using scare tactics on you, dont fall for it.

Lastly being on that st, I would imagine that you should have no shortage of tennants wanting to rent it. Just rent it out to someone else if he is not coming to the party.

Your the owner, the landlord, you hold the trump cards not him.

  10. They just took a bunch of pictures of unattractive people near Nana Plaza and assumed that they are "sex tourists".

I bet that many of them are the type that write in to TV swearing that they came to Thailand for the "culture" who just happened to be shopping at Asia Books that day. :o

I was shopping at Asia books

  11. By the way MOOT, if your time share selling ways are so above board and honourable, why dont you tell people up front what it is all about when your dealing with them immediately ??? Scared of a little antagonism and extreme disappointment ?

Your in the same league as Amway sales people....oh god here we go again.

What whiney cry baby.... did you part with some money for something you didn't really want because you were to bitch to say no? Man up punk, and respect the hustle.
  12. It does not work the same in Los.

Having a lawyer witness and sign it means bugger all.

For certified copies to be used at the Oz embassy, they only accept these witnessed and copied at the embassy consular section. Keep in mind that they now charge a fortune for this, I cannot remember the figure, but it is a lot.

What I did was when last in Oz, i took many copies of various documents with me and had them witnessed in Oz and the standard police station. She was not impressed signing 50 copies of stuff, but that is part of their job alas.

If you can wait a little while, get your friend to do the stat dec in Oz and send it to you.

If you need translations done, these are sent of to the Thai ministry for stamping, I think 200baht from memory.

  13. I dont know why everyone complains about why it is so hard for people to come to Oz or Kiwi to live and work etc.

That is the way it should be, they are protecting the country. If they made it easy dont you think even the furtherest desert corner would now be inhabited with the poorest people from the world over eaking out a living.

The only reason you all complain is that it is happening to you right now. Otherwise you would not give a hoot.

n&m you know buggar all about immigration issues and I regard you as a troll.

The posters in this thread have genuine issues and you not have the slightest idea what they are or how it affects their emotions, your comment above is insensitive, watch your posts in future or your warn level increases again :o

Thankyou so much bronci for your so informed reply. You can regard me as whatever you want, that is your right I guess. As it is my right to express my views that people who complain about the due process, because there is a reason behind the due process.

As for knowing nothing about immigration, possibly your right, but I have been through the process and would probably know a little more than you.

So if you think my reply is insensitive, well, the truth hurts as they say and sometimes people need a little blunt truth to wake up and realise that there is a reason for the due process, live with it, work with it and make it happen, stop whining about it.
