  1. It's quite livable.

The way I designed it, the upstairs looks beautiful and traditional but inside is quite modern.

The downstairs (daily living area) is concrete and fully modern with air conditioning, security, etc.

The mosquitos come out at night but seem to like to stay closer to the ground.

It's a bit of a lifestyle choice. Not 100% clean and bug-free but relaxing, nice breeze and lots of birds.

Went I am in the Silicon Valley I am in a smallish apartment. So it's a good balance.

Went through a few revisions to get the roof right and protected from heavy rain.

    Overall satisfied.

Still under construction after more than 5 years but since I don't currently live in Thailand, no rush....

Latkrabang, 20 minutes North of airport.

And BTW: looking for neighbors, if interested to build

I wonder about livability during the different seasons with bugs, rain and heat. That said you have a stunningly beautiful place there.

  2. Update on iPhone 3G Pricing.

MBK: This from my assistant that went to check "

Today, I went to survey the price of iPhone 3G at MBK. Now, it's quite rare maybe it's because of the 3G has just been released. For the store that have 3G, the price is quite high, 55,000 - 59,000 BHT for unlocked and from one store 45,000 BHT but the seller said still cannot be unlocked."

eBay: You can search for ended auctions and see they are selling in the $800-$1,100 price range.

Seems like white ones are getting a premium price.

  3. If import tax on electric cars can be reduced to 5% then I seriously want to import a Tesla (www.teslamotors.com).

    0-60 in 3.9 seconds.....

In US it is a bit hard to justify given it is twice the price of a Lotus.

But if can import to Thailand with 5% duty, it would be price a third less than a Lotus. Bargain.

If anyone can figure out how to get one with confidence, contact me and I will put my order in!

  4. It has been confirmed above by 2 people that Payap does not teach with Thai characters.

So what school in ChiangMai does teach Thai language from the beginning using Thai charcters rather than transliteration?

    Thanks.

  5. Hi Berty,

Thanks for posting that. I doing the same thing. I now have the system with 7" screen installed. Next step is to buy the GPS tracker, connect the 2 and install the software. Would be very valuable if you could share the hardware/software models you found and where you installed them.

Thx a lot. Saves much time trying to find someone with the knowledge and not trying to rip you off.

    Regards.

  6. THanks to everyone for the interesting info here.

Any guidelines about the height of water tank and/or distance of water tank from the faucets?

Building a 2 person house with 2 small bathroom and thinking to build a 9-12m tower but ideally would like the tower about 100 meters away from the faucets? Any commments/advise from experience about a set-up like this?

    THanks.

  7. Hi,

I am building a traditional Thai Ayuthaya style house in LatKraBang (near new airport). I am quite comfortable with my selected builder from Ayuthaya. However, I would like a part-time Project Manager to help 20-50% of the time to check on things and make sure they are on-track and also act as Thai-English translator between builders/labour/shops and me for making decisions. Not only is the house being built but many other project by many other supppliers for landscaping, fencing, etc. The role is causing too much stress to my girlfriend. On the cheap-end, I was thinking of perhaps an Architecture student or a better (more expensive) idea is ok too.

Does anyone have a contact, good experience or idea for such person? I know the proper way to ensure satisfaction is for me to be involved personally but this is impractical due to the fact that I can only come to Thailand a few days per month.

    Thanks.

  8. Seriously do shop around the price and quality of after market accessories can vary a lot do some research I have found 30% to 40% price differences the suburbs have cheaper prices than the centre of BKK .. the best area I have found is toward Rangsit and Lam Luka . Go past the airport not on the tollway and near to Macro / after Carrefour is a multitude of shops a pick up heaven !!!!

I have used this area many times remember prices include fitting .

As mentioned in my other post, I found the shop "New Fiber 4x4 ProShop" (recommended to me by Expat Motors) at 02 748 9183 or 748 8877 on the South-West corner of the major intersection between Seacon Square and Bangna-Trad on Srinakarin road gave me good quality stuff for exactly 50% of the price of other shops (grill 3k vs. 6k, full paint job 25k vs. 50k, wheels 100k vs. 200k, etc.)

  9. Tell me more about expat motors :o

www.expatmotors.co.th (who is also sponsor of this Forum) is a company that helps farang with everything related to car ownership in Thailand. I have know vested interest in the company but am really impressed with their great support. They originally helped me find the exact used car I wanted slightly below market value price then arranged all the transfers etc. for me without any effort. When I wanted to sell the car he provided help and advise and even helped advertise it in Bkk Post cheaper than I could do myself. When I wanted to buy the new Vigo he was willing to help find the exact model I wanted to. When I started looking for accessories, he recommended a shop (New Fiber 4x4 ProShop on SriNakarin near Bangna-Trad) which was incredibly 50% cheaper on every item than the other shop I was about to buy from.

  10. post-23534-1137747746_thumb.jpgMy Lexus :o Vigo. Finished Phase 1.

4X4, Petrol, Automatic, Leather & wood custom interior, Custom paint riding on 22s...

Will re-post once Phase 2 is complete. Thanks to Expat Motors for helping me find mod shops that turned out to be a full 50% cheaper than other shops on EVERY single modification. Quite incredible.

  11. Indeed the look of the vehicle really matters.

I have heard of a Thai who had a pick-up truck and rarely got pulled over but then he put some money into the pick-up to put body-kit, mags, lowered, graphics and started getting pulled-over every other week. He soon after sold the car and bought a new pick-up and went back to rarely being pulled over again.

  12. Thanks for your info. It is interesting and valuable to me.

I was planning to get the 4WD Petrol (2.7) X-Cab (2 door) Auto Trans in Black.

If I recall correctly the 4WD does have the option to put into 2WD. So, would a 2WD version get significantly better gas milage than a 4WD that is normally driven in 2WD mode?

And it is expected they will discontinue ALL petro Vigos?

Lastly, anybody have confirmed info about when the minor change will be introduced? Will it be at MotorShow in Dec? Any spy photos anywhere on the web or specific info about what will be changed?

    Thanks a lot.

  13. Hi,

I was planning to buy a Vigo. However, the dealer said that the colour/model I want is not available in Stock. So I said I would wait. Then later she said that that colour/model will not be manufactured ever again. That sounded strange. The only way I could imagine that would be true is if there was going to be a new model change. When I asked her that, she said YES there would be a new model of Vigo and it will be announced at 2005 Motor Expo in December but it is only a new 4x2 model (and I want 4x4). This all sounds a bit strange. Anybody have any insight?
