  1. Yes everything was processed correctly and I have my passport. I believe the reason they kept my passport was only to process my extension on the correct day to give me a full one year. The ten day wait was only due to a weekending and my early submission. I also want to mention that they also processed and issued an in-sync multiple reentry permit ant the total cost was about 6500 baht.

Yery easy to obtain if you have all your papers, photos, documents prepared ahead of time.   Thanks to all!

  2. I just returned from the Samui Immigration office and can report the following regarding the processing of my second retirement extension. Firstly I will state that I applied 10 working days before my visa expired.  I obtained my medical certification from the International Hospital in about 20 minuets 250 baht, very smooth process after presenting myself at the main reception counter. At Samui Immigration stand in the left line, there are signs indicating which line is for short term and long term extensions but they are paper taped to the counter and hard to see. I presented my passport and signed copies, Income statement from the US Embassy, Blue book copy with signed letter by my landlord, Google map which I had hand drawn a linear map on the reverse side, Medical certification. I was asked to come back 45 minuets later which was 11:45 a.m. and the doors were locked so I took the side stairs ( employee stairs and was admitted ) I was greeted by the friendly agent and we reviewed my documents, I was asked to come back in seven working days and provide a copy of my bank book, I told the agent that the deposited amount was small and she stated that any amount would suffice as it was supplemental to my Embassy Income Statement. I was also asked to take to my landlord a form for reporting my residency, I stated that my landlord had already filed that report at the local police station and the requirement was waived. So I am without my passport for the next 10 days but I expect things will be processed smoothly. I must say that I was very well treated by the immigration officer a female working the counter. Also they did not accept my 1900 baht application fee at this time.

Thanks to all BM's for the valuable input!

    2. They now require a copy of the "Blue Book" for my place of residence in addition to the rental agreement and copy of landlord's ID that was previously required (on the list of reuirements it says "household" but the guy at the information desk showed me what this meant).

So are these residency proofs required for extending a RETIREMENT visa on Samui. I have never been asked for anything other than a copy of my lease agreement. Copy of BLUE book or YELLOW book (what are these), photo of landlord, copy of landlord's I.D.?

    Thank You for your responses......

  4. Does anyone have a copy of the printed requirements for a one year retirement extension on Samui?

    also

Can I get my retirement Non-immigrant OA visa one year extension without showing my bank account? This will be my second extension. I will have a letter from the US embassy in Bangkok notarized showing adequate income.

anyone with a recent experience at this office?

I was in the new office with my friend getting a 30 day extension, in and out in 15 minuets., the place was empty, we arrived at 8:30. 1900 paid, receipt given. Nice building....if you do not know how to find this Soi ( the shortcut to Lamai )

It is near a bridge ( just South ), with a large billboard sign above the river. signage needs improvement. Watch your odometer when you turn onto the Soi.....3 /10ths of a Kilometer look for a small street on your right.

Paid 80 baht in the shop just outside for two color copies of Google Map.

  5. Udate to this topic;

I wish to thank the members of this forum for their invaluable advice and quick response without whos' help this would not have been possible.

I recently received my one year multiple entry non immigrant O-A visa from the Royal Thai General Counsular Office in Los Angeles.

I submitted a local police report noterised by my local notary and also the local notary noterised my signature on my medical certificate.

I hand delivered the documents to the Consular Office and they were processed in one day, delivered back to me by US postal service. Simple and efficent.

I now have one more question for the experts. With this type of visa should I have an onward airline ticket out of Thailand or is that not required with this type of visa. I plan to stay for a number of months. Will a train ticket suffice or should I just by a disposable airline ticket to KL?

    Thank You, BongoMan

  6. I have the following innooculations and a word of warning:

    Hepatitis A
    Hepatitis B
    Japanese Encephalitis
    Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR)
    Pneumococcus (IPD)
    Tetanus-Diphtheria-Pertussis (Tdap)
    Typoid
    Pneumococcal

    Mennsa (menngogococcal)?

    Hep B #2 Euvax

    Polio

    Yellow Fever

    influenza 4 times

    Shingles

And those who say you do not need vaccinations in the third world or S E Asia are nuts. I had a doctor friend die of Hep C ..... Get every vaccination you can find and afford, it builds your immune system. Those who say you do not need them should look at the latest outbreak of measels in the United States or Ebola in Africa. I have had friends die of Pneumonia. Why when you can get a shot? I will be getting the ones I missed and any new available in the future.

My personal Doctor travels the world....... and he is a Philippino ( they must have great immune systems, right? ) His recommendation is ..Get your shots!!!!

Any Doctor or Friend who advises against vaccinations is not your friend. Just because " they do not have it here" is never a valid reason to skip a shot. Do not wait until you are in the hospital looking at a major infection or loosing a leg or an arm to an unknown infection ........

Keep healty, exercise, walk, hike, ride, eat right, stay hydrated! Keep your feet clean, nails trimmed and soak them once a week, get a pedicure at least once a month! Pay close attention to your feet here. Wear closed shoes at night. There are often onforeseen obsticles ( sp ) and nasty cuts and contusions can happen easily. Keep your teeth clean and your gums free of infection, gargle with peroxide and then salt water at least once a week. Dentist are cheep here...

In this humid enviroment any small scratch will turn into an infection, trust me it is not like back home. You will need to get proactive with any and every small abrasion or cut. Wash every fresh wound with immediatly with Peroxide, Vodka, Salt, Soap, and put on ointment and a bandage. Keep a close eye our for tropical infections. If you get a scrape and it gets infected go to a good local Pharmacy and show the Pharmasist your wound, I have had excellent advice and once had the two pharmasists looking in between my toes with a flashlight. They correctly diaganost a bactiareal infection not a fungal and perscribed a small tube of ointment that had me cleared up in 3 or 4 days.

If you are in a rural area and cannot get to any modern medication you can boil Guava Leaves and keep them and the water in a covered pot, the leaves and water will kill infection. You can boil the leaves a couple of minutes every couple of days and use the leaves and water, with coconut oil ( or not ) , to make a paste on the wound. I have seen this used on a major deep "road rash" with excellent results. Oh yes you can drink the water also.

Just my real life experiences in asia.

Well obviously my spell checker is not working!

    Cheers, See you in Asia!

  7. "income certificate (an original copy) with a monthly income of not less than 65,000 ..."

Can somone please define what exactly this document is and how and in what locations it is obtained. I am a landlord for example and can show multiple bank statements with direct deposits from my tenants, can those statements be used to obtain an income certificate. I do not have a monthly pension. I am a US national. I searched this forum looking for a list of terms defined, I also searched the US Embassy Bangkok website with no results.

    Thank You

  8. I am not understanding what my local Notary Public can do for me. The Notary Public only verifies signatures on documents not the authenticity of any document.

Their stamp and seal just states " This Document was signed in my presence and I verified the Identity of the signator " Here in the State of California the local licensed Notary only attaches a separate sheet of paper to the original document and does not seal the document itself.

  9. I went to my local Police Department and they prepared a letter for me within 5 days and cost $17 US. I Do not know if this level of report will be accepted by the Royal Thai Consulate in Los Angeles. I believe that I can send this document up to the California Secretary of States office to have it authenticated by an State Apostille for about $8 US. That should take about 8 days.

Three types of reports are available to me First the local Police Department, Second the State of California Department of Justice and Thirdly the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The ease of obtaining documents and then getting them Authenticated varies in time frame, cost and difficulty with the FBI being the most time consuming.

The easiest way to obtain documents from the DOJ and FBI is to use a widely available fingerprint service here called LIVE SCAN, cost about $70 for the DOJ, FBI. You can go to a local shop or police depart an for $20 and the scan your fingerprints electronically and then send in a request to the agencies for you. That is $20 for the scan and $50 for the DOJ and FBI.

I am told the DOJ and FBI are backed up for months and so my question is does anyone know if the local police report will suffice?

Thank You, I will update this thread with current accurate information as I go forward with this project.

  10. Hello, I plan to submit an application for a NON IMMIGRANT O-A to the Royal Thai Consulate General in Los Angeles. I have a question about how to obtain a " Letter of Verification of no criminal record " and how to get it " notarized by notary organs of the applicants diplomatic or consular mission.

I currently reside in California and the information I am using for my application comes from the" Ministry of Foreign Affairs of The Kingdom of Thailand " website as the Royal Thai Consulate General in Los Angeles website has a broken link on the NON IMMIGRANT O-A page.

I am asking for specific details from someone who has recently gone through this process.

    Thank You
