  1. Hi Looking for some advice on breeding cattle. Our heifer has had her first calf and it is now 7 weeks old. I understand normal beef herds produce a calf approx every 12months (Spring time in UK). The question is, will she come into heat (estrus) while the calf is still suckling from her ?. I have seen beef herds in UK with the calf's suckling with the cows for most of the summer, and seen the them with bull in the same field. At present our heifer and her calf are in the pen next to our bull, with the thought if she come into heat then he will let us know.

    Appreciate any advice or thoughts.

  2. Hi, I was wondering if any person has had success in growing hay in Thailand. We have a spare 7 rai field and was thinking of growing hay, for dry season feed for our cattle. I am not sure if this is possible in Thailand, as believe the type of grass to grow for hay is not available or would grow in the climate ?

Any advice or ideas would be appreciated.

  3. Hi, Depends on what standards and specs you wish to build your house, also what budget you have. I would highly recommend Alan the builder from Surin. He has just built our 4 bed house (350 m3) 45km outside of Ubon, excellent workmanship. Being an ex carpenter, having someone who meet my standards was important, as was able to discuss things with him as we went through the different stages of the build as I was not in Thailand due to work commitments. As normal, the higher the specs, then more the cost.

  4. Hi, The good lady of the house has recently acquired some Turkeys from a friend. I was wondering if anyone could identify the breeds. The only breed I know are the Norfolk Blacks back in the UK. I have read some turkey breeds here in Thailand are not worth keeping, as tough to eat. Though I am not sure if she will allow them for the table, as she inform me they look nice around the place. smile.png

  5. Hi, regarding the Troy Blit TB2654 with a 26HP engine and 54" cutting deck, did you notice the price for this mower ???. I am looking to buy a good ride on mower, for approx 3 rai of grass. I have never heard of Troy, only brands like Kubota and John Deere, which I have not been able to find in Thailand. Would be interested if anyone has comments regarding the Troy model. Thanks.

  6. Hi Barrie one thing you need to remember, even if you are a non resident of the UK, you are still liable for UK taxes on any earnings from the UK (rent returns, though you still have your personal tax allowance). Renting of your house is great IF you get a good tenant. Get one who pay for the first 2 months then stop paying is a costly business, especially if you have to go to court to evict him. Then you have to pay letting agent (if you use one) house insurance, landlords certificate for electrical and heating systems. Then you have the possibility of repairs to your UK house. All these have an impact on your rent returns from your UK house. Good luck whatever you decide to do.

  7. If you really think Vietnam is better then Thailand, then you are in for a big shock. It is way behind thailand for roads system and infrastructure. I see people complain about street vendors on the pavement, in thailand you wait until visit Vietnam and have to contend with a million motorbikes who constantly ride on the pavement/sidewalks every minute of the day. Having lived in Hanoi and Sai gon (Ho Chi Minh City) I cannot wait untill retire next year and live in Thailand. There truly is no comparison

  8. Hi, if any one interested, found a good website with Jack Russell puppies for sale. We purchased the 2 puppies on the left and right of this picture.

The lady we dealt with was extremely helpful, and sent pictures and video of the puppies. She arranged for transport basket and their flight to Ubon Ratchathani. She followed it up with text / calls to ensure the puppies had arrived and everything was good. Also sent their vaccination records.

Very happy with the puppies, very healthy and full of energy.

  9. Hi, was hoping to buy a Jack Russell puppy or young adult dog. Have tried to find in Ubon Ratchathani, but none available. If fact most puppy places have never had them for sale. Hoping someone may know of a place or address where we could check. Live close to Ubon Ratchathani, but can travel if puppy/dog available. Willing to consider a re-home Jack Russell. Thanks, and appreciate any genuine replies.

  10. Hi

Braford cattle are available in Thailand. We have 3 Braford cattle, 1 bull, and 2 cows, between 14 -16 months old. Plan to breed. Nice looking animals. We bought them from a cattle ranch in Nongbaulamphue, though not cheap to purchase. The Bull has certified papers, and its sire was from Australia.
