No of course not no Wester Ex husband would do such a thing us white skinned foreigners are the cream of the cream and such things you mention never ever happen in our own country. Its totally unheard of, actually i wonder if there are even white murderers and criminals.

LOL!  You haven't watched CNN, MSNBC, or most other media for a few years, have you.  I am being sarcastic, of course, as were you.  Anyway, gave me a good laugh, thanks.

A post with misleading conclusions about COVID vaccines has been removed.

The latest and current research on COVID vaccines, especially the mRNA ones, DO show that they have a substantial preventive effect that makes it less likely the vaccinated will contract the virus in the first place, even with Delta.

What some other research lately also has suggested is that ONCE vaccinated and unvaccinated people both happen to become infected with COVID (which is less likely with the vaccinated), both COVID infected groups have the potential to spread the virus to others, and may have similar peak viral loads.

That notwithstanding, it's misleading and incorrect to claim that the current vaccines don't play a substantial role in protecting the vaccinated from becoming infected.  lt's not 100% protection, but it's still a substantial level of protection. See below:

    https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/70/wr/mm7046a4.htm

"During the July–September 2021 surveillance period, SARS-CoV-2 infection occurred among 4,146 of 137,616 unvaccinated persons (30.1 per 1,000 persons) and 3,009 of 344,848 fully vaccinated persons (8.7 per 1,000). Incidence was higher among unvaccinated persons than among vaccinated persons across all demographic strata."

Your comment says essentially the same thing I was trying to get across, and I also appreciate the link to the CDC paper.  The difference lies in the words "infected" vs "transmissibility".  Vaccinated people are better protected, but transmissibility is not diminished.  The virus is in the air we breathe.

Well this thread is also about daughters ........

And mine is on her way to hospital after having COVID vaccine 1-2 days ago.

The misses just panicked and rushed off after getting a phone call an hour ago, don't know how serious it is. Not sure what's happening at the moment, but she was a completely healthy 23 year old before the vaccine.

I guess it's a coincidence that the only time she's ever been to hospital is a couple of days after having the COVID vaccine (probably AZ, but not sure).

Hope it all works out and was a temporary side-effect.  Do let us know when you have time.

Update: I see above that it worked out ok.  Happy to hear it.

If I don't spray my hands even after some trivial action I get a lecture about endangering her life.

Has your wife been vaccinated?  If so, she is now protected from serious illness and death.  She no longer needs to worry about anyone around her.  And if you have also been vaccinated, then you're both good to go.

Some of these gals can be right unreasonable with their Farang mates.  They won't read scientific data/analysis from other countries any more than they will listen to their husband's advise over the garbage hauler's, and certainly not over the Pu Yi Ban (interesting comparison there: International data on vaccinations, et al, vs Thai government and media.  Hmm.).

    Good luck!

Mybe no end  in site for the virus

Oh, there is a virus in downtown Bangkok, alright.  A virus which at least used to be eradicated every election and then slowly creep back up.  But the most recent form of the virus planted another form of itself such that it cannot be eradicated.  Now there is no vaccine available unless the citizens roll out their own version.

And then there is Covid.  Useful to block eradication of the first virus.

Quite the strategy, actually: A virus that allows another virus to prosper.

  6. We use both AIS and True now, post-pay/monthly.  Have used AIS alone and True alone in the past, switching every so often when one runs a deal that outdoes the other.   True billing is more confusing and not as easy to pay/keep track of, especially when you have TrueVision (TV), internet and one or more phones.  AIS is simple: get the bill, scan it with the Bangkok Bank iBanking app on my phone and pay the bill.  I "true-ly" wish True would consolidate their billing systems across their different services and make scanning an option, like AIS.

I suggest approaching your local district health office if you are over 60.

As you can see some people are already getting their second dose.

I wholeheartedly agree.  If you can't find your local district health office, ask around at the hospital and find out where the vaccination center is, and then go there at 9 a.m. on a weekday.  Go to the registration tables and plead your case.  We found in the Roi Et City vaccination center that they have allotments, and they have people that have not shown up, meaning they have extra (Pfizer).  We were told to go speak to 2 people: 1 was the allotment manager and she was sitting at her own table next to the doctor that was by all appearances in charge.  They were very helpful, answered questions and addressed our concerns, and, if you meet any of the criteria, they will get you into the queue right then.

Give it a try and let us all know how it works out for you.

The kids need to be vaccinated because in school enviroment they will be in close proxcimity with many other  kids every day. They are much more likely to meet with others infected with covid and can spread to teachers, parents, gran-parents back home.

Then the adults should get themselves vaccinated so they don't get the virus, from anyone!

So kids should go back to school unvaccinated then? Because that looks to be the plan for November. Kids are way more active than most 60 year olds and potentially meet with 100's of other children per day. Expect cases. Schools simpy cannot  stay shut much longer - and I'm one of the teachers who will see them every day. 85%  of the teachers and kids will need to be vaccinated though, and normal hygiene protocols will apply.

The fact is you may test every kid in your school and they may all "test positive", but the chances of any of them getting seriously ill is very very low, and death rarely happens anywhere in the world.  All of the teachers and adults in and around the schools should get vaccinated to protect themselves; the kids not so much.  Vaccination does not prevent transmission.

Adults are being vaccinated  but many anti vaxers don't want to be and others don't trust the vaccine. Bottom line we have an obligation as parents/adults to protect children/younger generation.  Us 60 plus year olds have had a good run , stop being the me generation. All about me, me, these children are just starting life and are owed a chance to have one.

Then the "anti vaxers" are making their own decision about risk of serious illness and possibly death.  I believe they should in order to protect themselves, but just because they don't does not mean others around them are more at risk; the vaccinations do not stop transmission in anyone, vaccinated or not.

It is true that children may transmit the virus to older people: it is true that anyone may transmit to anyone, for that matter.  Vaccination does not protect from transmission or "testing positive"; it only protects from serious illness and possibly death.  Children have almost zero chance of becoming seriously ill, so teachers and all adults working in and around schools may want to make sure they themselves are vaccinated.  And it may be good preventive medicine to vaccinate the children after all the high risk people (aged and/or existing health problems) get vaccinated, but they should not be getting ahead of the high risk population (at least the ones that want to and are trying to get vaccinated).  I have a 15 year old and will do what the government mandates for the schoolkids, but not before.  I have had my first Pfizer dose and will get the second one this Friday.  My wife is in her mid-40s and in good health, which also means she is in the risk group below aged and/or ill, but we will try to get her a Pfizer jab before our son.

And yes, the kids can spread the virus to those at home, and so those at home should absolutely make sure that they themselves are vaccinated at their earliest opportunity.

Yes, of course, you have.   It is well known that if anyone just refuses to pay legitimate import duty and VAT on imported items Customs and courier companies will let it go and deliver them anyway.

Being asked to pay import duty and VAT on imported items is not "being held ransom".

Point taken.  In my case I was referring to items where import duties were the responsibility of the seller.  Re-reading the OP I can see that may not have been the case here.  You are right to correct me because I normally won't import items where the duties and fees are not known at time of shipment and would be my responsibility.

If you are vaccinated and get a breakthrough case with the Delta variant, you are infectious.  If it is one of the other variants or the original strain, you will not be infectious.   Breakthrough infections are still not common.  If you do not get Covid, you can't pass it on.   If you get vaccinated you have a much, much better chance of never being infected in the first place.

If you walk through a smoke filled room, will a swab of your nose reveal that you have smoke residue in your nasal passage?  Why yes, yes it would.  If you are vaccinated against the effects of smoke and you walk through a smoke filled room, will a swab of your nose reveal that you have smoke residue in your nasal passage?  Why yes, yes it would.

In either scenario, if you sneeze, is it possible that a nearby human will breathe in part of the smoke residue from your nasal passages?  Why yes, yes it is possible.

    Vaccination does not prevent transmission.

Why not ? Young people are unlikely to be very sick with covid, but they may pass it on to those who are more vulnerable.

There is simply no vaccine that will stop transmission.  Vaccination is only useful in preventing serious illness and possible death.  In other words, vaccines protect those receiving it against serious illness, and nobody else.  So, if young people are not at risk of serious illness or death from Covid-19, but could possibly face life threatening illness from getting the vaccine, that's why not.

You only think that you have cracked it.  Threatening DHL and the Customs Dept. after breaking the law won't help your case and they certainly won't give in and let you have the items just because of that threat.   They won't give a toss.   DHL probably won't return the item to the seller either, more than likely they will record it as delivery not accepted as a result of your refusal to pay import duty (paying that is your sole responsibility) so the chances of your getting your money refunded that way aren't good.

Hope you feel even better now.

I've rejected items in exactly the same way several times when DHL was involved.  In ALL cases the item(s) arrived at my door within a few days, no questions asked by the delivery person.  You don't threaten them, you simply say "send it back, I don't want it".  I've always taken the position that Customs can keep it if they want to, DHL can airfreight it back if they so desire, and there is some risk the vendor won't refund, but there is something fishy going on between Customs and DHL specifically and I won't be held ransom by either of them.
