I remember in the seventies the exchange rate was about 23 baht to the dollar. I survived fine. Now its about 31 baht to the dollar so better. In 2005 I believe it was 40 to 1. Of course prices aren't the same but neither is my US income. I feel for the Brits because many came here when the exchange was much better but maybe lack enough resources to weather the storm. I think that Thailand was heavily promoted in the UK as a place to retire cheaply. It was but isn't as much so anymore.

For me its still much more affordable than California. As well as much safer.

Yes and Brit pension is frozen in Thailand at the amount when they move there; better place is Philippines as even it is not an ex commonwealth country by a special agreement the pension is not frozen.

there are 75 countries that drive on the left......so your statement is not correct really

75 countries and territories as Isle of Man Isle of Wight ???? mostly ex commonwealth countries and Brit domination.

But it’s not the problem I am a usually drive right driver and drive in Thailand when you occasional driver need at the beginning a little more attention.

The problem is the driving skills. No proper training and tourist renting scooters they never use to drive in their country so again lack of driving skills.

We know from other reports already that for an IO to say "you have been here more than 180 days" they count whatever way suits their needs. Maybe last 12 months, maybe last year, maybe last two years. It doesn't matter because there is no 180 days limit anyway, they just try to make something up.

Thai consulate in Paris doesn’t deliver you a tourist visa if you have been in Thailand already 180 days in 12 months rolling period, even if there is no rule about that and it’s not new .

I have kept in touch with some of the other guys who were here before. One Australian guy detained also came in on a 60 day tourist vista he got from KL embassy. He lived in Aus and had not even visited Thailand in years. He had booked rooms for the whole time, etc.  When returning his passport , it had a letter saying he could not stay because he had "insufficient funds" Well, he had had to show his bank balance in KL to get the visa, and had never been asked here to provide them again. They just essentially made up a reason to boot him. Just like with me- insisting I was going to come back to work illegally with zero justification for saying this.

In the end , they can not allow an embassy to say you are acceptable for a visa , then have different rules here at the airport.

Yeah wisperone- I meant  my tourist dollars for life. In the short term, the money I would have spent here will now be going into the hands of Filipinos mostly

10k baths must be show in cash

I am actually in Philippines but yes when you are in the country renewing visa is easy but at immigration Mactan Cebu airport even with a 59 days visa from Philippines Consulat in Paris I was scrutinize and interview never happen to me in Thailand where I plan to go back.

Most travel insurance doesn't cover motorbike accidents, even if licensed, wearing a helmet etc anyway.

A bit like not telling the insurance company that you're on a skiing holiday (dangerous pursuits), then trying to claim?! (Don't come running to me with a broken leg!!☺️).

Maybe I'm a wimp, but I've (almost) always avoided motorbikes in Thailand. If I'm going to be on one I'd rather that I'm the driver, not a Thai who thinks he's/she's Valentino Rossi!!

Travel Insurance link to Revolut premium card cover MB if you have proper licence and helmet. It’s valid for 45 days start automatically as you geoloc by app on your smartphone.

Revolut premium card cost 10€ monthly as a travel insurance includes cover 11 000 000 GBP the Revolut app on your smartphone locate you when you abroad and you automatically cover.
Road accidents (car and bike) are cover if you have the adequate DL.

There's always a catch with Revolut, i imagine cover is only for a max number of days and other exclusions. I had a look on their website and as per usual the T&Cs for medical cover is difficult to find. I assume you've worked out the rate you get in Thailand is poor? Its hidden on their site somewhere

Trip of 40 days 183 days by year

    You cannot do it.

You can only get private insurance by paying a substantial amount of money for it.
