We are a mixed couple Thai/Dutch officially Married and already living for 9 years as a couple on Phuket, we have one daughter born in Thailand with dual nationality.
Due to family reasons, we will return to Belgium, where I had my last residency (for over 20 years) before I moved to Thailand and where my wife officially stayed a few times and months during our courtship period.
In Belgium my wife can officially reside, in our case, legally without the need for integration test. We plan now to buy two new cars on arrival in April next year (2013) and use them ourselves during our stay in Europe. In case off my wife a Range Rover Evoque 4WD RHD and for me personally a Jaguar XJ (LWB) RHD. After staying in Europe for approximately 15 months (one full school year plus holiday periods on an International school for my daughter to "taste" Dutch, intensifying relation with Grandma and family from daddy's side) we plan to return "home" and ship our cars with us to Thailand and officially import them into Thailand. This with the intention to keep them driving ourselves her after this relocation back to Thailand.
I try to attach two screen prints. One with states that my Wife can officially reside in Belgium and one from an official Thai government site which states that duty free import is allowed in case like described above.
Please give me comments. I want to prevent "bobby traps" or disasters. A lot off money at stake for us.

I really do believe if Thailand would be more easy with foreign ownership off houses and residences this would boost the economy and increase cofidence from foreigners in Thailand. The current laws make it to risky for many to investment. Laws who prevent huge landpieces who can endanger food supply within Thailand I can understand, but all the rest is not fair. Thais can buy abroad. Farangs and expats here have to deal with risky and expensive loopholes. Neighboring countries are more easy and become more and more attractive. Laos, Cambodia, Malaysia and Birma are inviting retires and second house owners. Even in China a foreigner can buy. The houses and properties I talk about are not affordable for the average Thai. Only for the wealthy ones and with the current legislation Thailand only helps them, to become more wealthy. This is not at all beneficial to majority off Thais only to the happy few. The happy few can buy cheaply small plots from less fortunate Thais. Creating this way from several small plots one big one and sell it in a expensive and overpriced way as "freehold". There is no fair deal or competition for the small land or house owner. The market is exclusive for wealthy Thais.

I faced the same obligation, for my Thai, Dutch daughter. I asked this huge school on Phuket to organize a way to get on one or two hours weekly base Father-tongue languages. Duth for the Dutch mixed born. French for the French, Italian for the Italian and so on. They are not interested. So now it become Obligated! Chinese. No mercy, but yes the Thai owner has Chinese roots himself and quiet some fellow students off my daughter also.
I believe Chinese is less needed because the Chinese more and more can communicate in English. "Father" tongue should get More attention.

I met Edwin Wiek twice and I really do believe he is honest, and integer. His battle is against "corrupted" Thai officials. This Land off the Smiles has to many wrong (greedy, corrupted) people on important positions.
I do Admirer The King. YES;
LONG LIVE THE KING, but many off the State Officials only are greedy and corrupt and don't now what sufficiency means.
Thailands Neighbors will prosper from Thailands corrupted mentality.

The timing off this news report is according to me no coincidence. Last week/currently in the; www.phuketgazette.net / www.phuketwan.com / www.thephuketnews.com articles about fraude & corruption by Phuket officials (including a current Senator before vice-governor/governor off Phuket). High ranking land officials and city & village officials (to acquire the needed building) and village heads Kamnans & mayors must be aware off this practices also.
A lot off low titled land without ownership and state forest was upgraded to chanotes and suddenly had owners (from the so called level; The untouchables).
A lot off this land has been developed into luxury resorts and private estates. These are often partly owned by foreign investors but a lot belongs to the Thai happy few (extremely rich and influential.
It looks like there is involvement from all colors (Red & Yellow, local parties, democrats)
Many land is developed above the 80 meter zone which is illegal on Phuket. A lot off buildings are within the forbidden zone off 25 meters from high water tide as beach properties.
There is currently a investigation going on this topic.
Now the foreigners get the blame although nothing illegal could have occurred without knowledge, approval & cooperation from Thai officials and Thai landowners.
It is good to prevent illegalities, but according to article 17.1 and 17.2 every one (all humans) have the right to own property. There should at least be made a difference between the reason and purpose off ownership.
How can Thailand be so old fashioned in his ownership rights. And was has National security?
No one will take away parts off Thailand out off it.
The recent bombings and preparation off them where done from a rented house. (Like Anders Breivik in Norway prepared his bomb attack from a rented farm).

Mister Chamlong you where till the airport closure my hero.
I adored the PAD's style of protest. It reminded me to the "Salt mars" of Mohadma Ghandi. This timme the PAD actions demands brings us close to a war with innocent people getting harmed or killed. The economic damage to Thailand will be great. And the PAD's demands are unreasonable. In Europe we have had a few unlogical borderlines.there we solved with some land swappes. Couldn't that be a solution here to. Just a suggestion. In that cases noone loses faces and lives are spared.

I am a former admirer and supporter of the PAD, but in this case I completaly disagree with them. Their approach can and will cause a war. The PAD should be hold accountable for this. They are playing with the lives of soldiers and citizens and their approach wil harm Thais economy a lot.
If silencing the leaders is the only option left, then just put them quickly in jail. Sorry Chamlong, sorry Sonthi and so on, but this the best way to safeguard and to protect Thailands interest.

I have been married for over 5 year now with my Thai wife. I personally have Dutch nationality, but because I lived more years in Belgium than in The Netherlands we often applied for my wives Schengen Visa with the Belgium embassy. Recently I met some-one from the Dutch embassy in Phuket and I complained that the Netherlands where often difficult with their Visa. I explained my situation and showed her evidence of my ownership (properties) in Thailand and a quit solid amount within Thai, and Dutch bank-accounts. I also showed our (Platinum) World-Wide Bupa Insurrance coverage).
After showing all this information the consul promised me a better Visa. And yes recently my wife received a 2 YEAR MULTIPLE ENTRY VISA. (Off course still restricted for 90 days each time we use it).
This makes travelling a lot more easy because you have no time restrictions and it also safes a lot of Visa-obtaining costs (tickets from Phuket to BKK / hotel-bills to obtain the visa).
What I do understand that 2 years is within Schengen countries really the max and it is clearly not easy to obtain. Do also understand we received many years only shorttime visa (30 days with time restrictions and the problem of the tickets) but at the end we obtained by now a good and clean record with staying within the "given time frames" I do believe you have to "earn" your upgrade to this 2 year Visa.
Our history is
Many times (about 5) 90 days visa multiple entry
We have once a very restricted visa (30 days only)
Once a 1 year multiple entry visa
and now the 2 Year multiple entry
Anyhow everyone all the best with obtaining a good visa, because it makes your travelling a lot less complicated, but be aware that the strict regulations are also caused by the people who didn't kept them to timeframes and overstayed and or started 'working" without work-permits.
P.s. It should also be interesting if we gathered the the fees different countries are asking for their Visa. Belgium charge nothing because my wife is family, Holland still charges a fee although it is the same wife I travel with. I must admit I have no problems with small fees, but I have problems with the restricted visa. To obtain a visa (flying or driving to and staying in BKK cost my small family always between 30.000 and 50.000 baht)

I have to get my photocopied Malaysian ID "notarized". I think it's certified by someone or something. Do embassies do this?
Yes, The enbassies act for their own fellow countrymen as a notary abroad. They have the same legal status and are this way official legalised and recognised by (Thai) authorities to act like a notary. I just had my own copy of my passport legalised by my embassy. I assume your country also will has its own website which will confirm my remark.
All the best

I call this GOOD news! Better wait for a new law till after the elections. Most likely the Democrats will become a big player in the political arena. They are more cooperative to farangs then TRT was. Also don't forget that it was during Mr. Thaksin's period they started rewritting this FBA. The only big change for Thaksin himself now is that he was ousted/deposed mainwhile and that he himself, officially, bought property (Villa) and ownership (Manchester City) himself abroad mainwhile. (This should open Thai minds also). HERE in Thailand it was Thaksin's own telecom sale who thightened the regulations for us suddenly in a negative way for us. I strongly believe that a new government (with increasing needs and demands for fair freetrade, European talks coming up soon) will be more openmindend towards foreign ownership. So it is for me better to wait a bit longer for a new IMPROVED proposal and then final aproved one then it would have been to settle with a bad law yesterday.

I have this VISA sh.t luckily only once a year and call it in my case unfair. I'm married with a wonderful Thai woman for close to 10 years. Together we are proud and happy parents off our daughter. Yearly I have to proof myself again. I entered years ago nice amount off Euro's and multiplied this amount quiet a few times thanks to good, property, investments. Our property-evaluated by 2 banks (I paid them both for taxation report just out off curiosity). The properties and land is evaluated at around 9 figures in Thai Baht before the decimal! But Immigration/ Thai authorities doesn't give a sh.t about this. Because we keep investing and always improving our properties. We do have sometimes Cash Flow shortage. If I have this around new Yearly VISA application I'm completely stressed and they drive me nuts with this. This gives then again a huge blow to our normally happy family.
This 400.000 baht regulation is very unfair to people like me. I provide many Thai laborers/families most construction people year after year with an above minimum wages income. I have staff on and around my properties and our land. We feed many families and provide a lot off help to a village in Isaan. i keep investing to secure my wife and kid, for when I pass away (15 years elder then my partner and weak health but fairly good brains) but sometimes Immigration rules are unfair (and always their; "It is Up to You Remark". Thailand should treat us and give us the same opportunities as Thai's get in foreign country's.
Check article 17.1 & 17.2 UN Manifest for Human Rights!
See where wealthy Thai's own easily and legally private property abroad (Thaksin as an example), but many wealthy Thai have the same. Many Thai's working abroad (Europe, US and so on) can buy and OWN.
China is open for foreign investment, even Cuba, Cambodia, Malaysia and so on, but Thailand is still old fashioned and over-protective. A limitation on maximum land-sizes and property could be understandable for security off food supply.
But current Visa & Ownership rights is out off time.
This only beneficiary to the wealthy Thai, many from Chinese origin (Shinawatra family). They "passed the test off time". I keep "wrestling and struggling" knowing that my beloved daughter & if they ever come my Grandchildren will not face the same unfair treatment. They will be Thai. But for me and my wife the system has been really unfair.
I still love Thailand!
In a few weeks it will be my VISA turn again. And it looks this year more easy for me. Currently I'm Bank-book wise in the Safe-zone.
