  1. Easily done - have options for 30, 60, 90 or even 180 day visa on arrivals.

I once got a VOA in Istanbul and couldn't believe how long it was for (180 days is the only VOA option there but better to have it and not need than need the days and have to leave the country). It would certainly be a lot easier than having everyone head up to Mai Sai or Penang every 30 or 60 days which is a huge pain in the ass and a real deterrent to a long term stay.

  2. Different story to what was quoted in the Nation. It said that the girl on the motorbike came out of the PTT station and fell off the bike causing the pick up to brake heavy.

"Witnesses to the accident saw Ms Nadia fall off her bike after she turned out of the PTT gas station. The pick-up truck driver, who was heading straight, slammed on his brakes to avoid hitting Ms Nadia," said Lt Wichote.

"The car driving behind the pick-up truck crashed into the back of the truck and spun around before colliding with the pole."

All the vehicles, and their drivers, were taken to Thalang Police Station for questioning.

"We must further investigate the circumstances of the accident before charging anyone for the damages," said Lt Wichote.

Expect the one with the most dosh will be saddled with the bill. Good job there wasn't a foreigner involved or it would have been all his fault regardless where he was positioned

Actually - I was involved in a huge accident down south last year and the police never even came and talked to me. I was surprised by how little attention it was given by authorities. I'm a farang btw...

  3. I see the usual sensible comments and then the crass ones.

Laughing gas may be a legal substance but as at least one person has pointed out, it's stupid to risk your life by inhaling it.

The parents of these people who may have to pick up the pieces one day might say that little Pippa overdosed on laughing gas or something worse. The reality is that they would not have overdosed on anything because there is no dosage for such idiocy.

Anaesthetists study for over a decade to be allowed to be in charge of stuff like that and here's three little girls lying on the pavement just asking for trouble. Send them home now for their own good.

Wrong, There is no excessive danger in using nitrous oxide and it can be given without an aneathetist present, On the ward we used it ( entonox ) for painful dressings and there wasn't even a requirement to have a dr's order.

Read about it on Wikipedia- it's quite interesting. Been used for recreational purposes since 1799.

    It's you who is very wrong..read #62

Also, nitous oxide has been used by people committing suicide.sad.png

Any gas can be used to commit suicide- just put a bag over your head and pipe in the gas for long enough to die of oxygen deprivation. Even pure oxygen will kill you by removing the impulse to breathe. Sucking on a balloon for a few minutes is different.

As for that article- the usual hysteria from the usual suspects.

Tried it last year in Phi Phi - instant, bellyaching laugh as though I'd just seen the funniest thing ever.

Next day though, NOT a laughing matter. LMAO - I don't know if this stuff kills you but you'll WANT to die if you mix it with alcohol. Wow that was a hangover...

  4. Wonder how much money changed hands for this video to suddenly surface after 3 months. And who carries knives to midnight rotary meetings?

My pops always encouraged me to carry a swiss army knife and it's helped me out a thousand times since I was a kid. Thankfully I've never been in a situation to even consider using it to defend myself. He might have been carrying a bowie knife for all I know, but a lot of people carry small utiltiy knives around.

Who the hell has midnight Rotary meetings?

  5. The road to hell is paved with good intentions. Make no mistake - these students have embarked on a journey straight to the heart of darkness itself. This would make an awesome dark comedy.

If this thing doesn't end up smashed in a gorge in the Himalayas or riddled with bullets as it traverses the Middle East I'll be amazed.

Probably the worst time in history aside from during the Wold Wars to be attempting this.

    555 - Good luck!

  6. So what next, all the company that produce beer, which gives you liver problems and more, I think this will be over ruled by a higher court,

I hear what you're saying but I the people who would be recipients of this $50 billion are from the era where the dangers of smoking were suppressed heavily to consumers.

The tobacco lobby did a very good (bad..?) job of convincing people that smoking wasn't bad for you. This settlement is for the people from that era who were outright lied to and for whom big time health problems ensued as a result of those lies. That would probably be people in their 50's, 60's 70's now.

Someone who takes up smoking (or drinking beer) today, with all of the knowledge we have about its dangers is SOL in terms of ever being compensated as this older group of people have been.

But the tobacco industry is also very good at defending itself from lawsuits so you're right - it probably will get overturned.

  7. How did Somjit know the pick up crashed into him at full speed,

when he was most likely fast asleep, parked on the road,I see

no mention of having his lights on either.another life wasted on

    Thai roads,

    RIP Edward

    regards Worgeordie

?? you must drive at a speed that you can stop within the area that is visible. A bit too fast would mean you knock a bit into it (if you can't steer away) but not in a total and fatal crash.

Very high probability the Edward Farang is to blame.

What a load of twaddle If the truck was parked without lights, how can you tell the distance? Same as driving at a brick wall !!

I take it you do not have a driving permit ?

I wonder if you have one.. he is absolutely right you should be able to stop for anything that is in your visibility range. So yes even when the road ends all of a sudden you should not goo too fast.

Good example is when going over a minor hill, you can't see the other side so you slow down. I once had it when i went over a flyover on my bike that once i passed the crest there was a traffic jam. Had I not slowed down before because parts of the road were not visible i would have had an accident.

So if you can see 100 meters make sure you can stop in 100 meters. If you can only see 40 meters.. go a lot slower.

Yup - sightlines are key which makes me wonder if pehaps this truck was parked on the blind side of a bend in the road. That happens all the time. Not trying to lay any blame but to hit something full speed something wasn't right. Or maybe alcohol. Dangerous place to drive Thailand, but otherwise pretty lovely.

  8. I think you should sue your teacher for failing to teach you how to comprehend written English.

If this verdict is allowed to stand cigarette companies are going to go out of business and there will be a thriving black market for tobacco products. Next could be the alcohol companies. They don't even warn me that there is any danger of getting drunk and falling over (which is a health hazard) from consuming there products.

WARNING: This post contains some sarcasm.

Again. We look in the wrong direction.

60% roughly of sales price of tobacco, alchohol and fuel goes to government.

Then they use smoke and mirrors to blame everyone else.

    I say hang the judge.

So true - in Canada tobacco is heavily taxed so the government has a strong incentive to not ban it outright as they did with another carcinogen, asbestos. So, they slap some nasty pictures on the pack and jack the price up through taxes, ostensibly to discourage people from smoking, while generating huge revenue from it. Like legalised gambling it becomes an unofficial tax on the poor. I say let the lawyers have their money - they're at least doing what the federal government won't.
