i had a friend of mine leave the navy after 6 years he was an engineer as well, a few years later he regretted leaving and thought about re-enlisting, along came a baby so he didn't take it any further, he is in a management job now which he puts up with, but still to this day regrets leaving,
just my thoughts on leaving its not a good time world wide for jobs, so would it be worth waiting a bit until you have a clear choice of what's ahead. your young don't move from a known future to an unknown one,
For me personally, the work life balance atm isn’t great. I’m currently based in Yeovil and it looks likely I would be there for my entire career if I were to stay in. The place is depressing and I want to leave while I’m still young.

FAA tiffy?
24, you can do whatever you like. I waited 20 years too long, but few regrets finally making the move.
They got rid of tiffs maybe 10 years ago mate. Did you do the full 22? -
Hey everyone, I've recently come to the decision that I want to leave the Royal Navy. In in two minds in whether to get a job back home in Manchester or make the move to Thailand. I'm half Thai with a passport and can speak the language conversationally. This means I have the right to work in Thailand, I just don't know if I can find a decent job. I've served 6 years as an aircraft engineer and I'm currently 24. Any help would be great with how easy it would be to get a job over there in any field.

If you can tell us where the village is, someone will come up with the word shag in the appropriate, regional dialect. When you guys say ask them out, it's different in the England because obviously you can pick them up and take them to, for example a restaurant, but in the village what is there to do
Make sure that you have a bike though. You will see loads of lads with pooyings hanging off the back, zipping around at all hours of the night and they aren't going to the local chippy either. Once you've broken the ice and they get to know you a little better, you will be zipping around like a local (and most likely she will know where to go too).
Yeh bud the village is near non bua lamphu, I've got one a bike and that would be the aim hopefully haha

I'm trying not to make excuses btw haha

Can I just say, I know how to talk to girls, I'm not scared of them, it's just different in a village setting when everyone is watching you and are often talked about.

why would ou want to enlist in one of the most evil forces the world has ever known? the royal navy started off as pirates like francis drake and walter raleigh.it then progressed into slavery and was responsible for the systematic torture, murder and kidnap of millions of Africans. It then helped to cause militarism in the build up to ww1.finally its recently been involved in unjust wars in the falklands,Iraq etc...but youve prob been in school in the UK where history is manipulated to leave out all the truth...sorry but i just dont understand why people join up nowadays in the modern world where we can find the truth if we want to..
Why would he be learning Thai before enlisting in the Royal Navy of the UK ? I thought he meant Royal Navy of Thailand.
I left sixth form early and have been working for my dads company until I join up but I came on holiday with my parents and my thai mum wants me to learn the thai language while I'm young and have time as I won't really get a chance when I'm in the navy

I haven't a clue why you are asking on an expat forum if you are half Thai and have relative(I assume) that you are staying with.
Westerners that live in Thai villages usually don't meet girls by chatting them up and the normal ways one does in the West.
At least 90% meet their girlfriends in tourist area like Pattaya, Nana Plaza, etc.
Sorry bro, I didn't think it mattered who made a post on this forum as long as it was about Thailand ?
Cheers for all the helpful advice so far aswell guys

Didn't you mother warn you for Thai girls?
Haha what do you mean?

I've been in Thailand for two months now and I'm here for another three to learn thai as My Thai mothers wants me to learn the language before I start Royal Navy training in September. My problem is I am completely bored during the day, I've found it hard to make friends. Everyone in the village knows who I am and the staring has calmed down a lot since I was one of the pah duengs in the rocket festival . My thai is ok haha but I couldn't keep up a proper conversation with the locals. It's not like I'm an unsociable person, I have plenty of friends back in the UK but it would be nice to maybe also have a girlfriend here. I wouldn't say I was unattractive and the girls wherever I go in Thailand seem to like me as I'm a stereotype of a "luk krueng", a lot of the girls stare and give me a smile but I just don't know how I would go about approaching them.
Sorry for this long winded question.
Any advice would be helpful really,
Cheers

I want out of the forces entirely in all honesty mate. I’ve enjoyed my time in but I think I’ve got to the stage of my career that if I don’t leave now I’ll never leave.
