  1. I had a after market slip on exhaust on my big bike which was very quiet and legal in all other countries around they world but always got fined by pattaya police for modified. So I figured if I am going to get fined I might as well make it loud and run a decat mid pipe and remove the exhaust silencer. It sounds like a real superbike now and the police leave me alone never been fined since. Not sure if loud pipes save lives but riding in the right hand fast lane saves mine which is also illegal.

  2. I think your missing my point. Elite visa is also convenient for those who can afford it, for people who don't want to do border runs or fly overseas to obtain a visa which includes paying for flights and hotels while your doing it and long staying in Thailand if I don't chooses to continue working offshore. With all the travelling I do, the less time I spend in an airport the happier I am. Express through customs, limousine/ fancy taxi service to my apartment all work well for me. The cost of the elite visa although quite pricey and not ideal for alot of people, the cost is no issue for me. Your opinion obviously suits your situation.

  3. I do realise that there isn't a limit on visa exempt entries. I explained this to immigration and was told that it was her decision and she being an immigration official will make her own decisions regarding this situation. It's noted on computer which I can't change and I really can't be bothered arguing or contesting this so being under 50 and not married I lucky enough to be in a situation where paying for an Elite Visa is the way to go for me.

In that situation I would invite the IO to deny entry. She must have legal reason to do so.

Immediate notification of appeal against an illegal refusal is possible.

Has the big "off shore worker" been scared by a lady puffing smoke ?

Once your "legitimacy" for frequent use of visa exempt entries is established it is unlikely that you would be questioned again.

  6. I am in a similar situation working in the Drilling Industry, as finally a immigration official has requested entry by visa only. After 4 years of visa exempt entry to Thailand it was noted on computer at immigration that I will be denied entry to Thailand without a visa. I don't see how this new visa will make it much easier for me as have to apply for it overseas. For all the hassles and inconvenience I have just applied for an Elite Visa.

  8. I work in West Africa on 64 days on 28 days off roster and been flying back to Thailand with visa exempt entry for over 3 years. Last time after my flight was cancelled I had to return through immigration at 4am as as airline had put us up at the Novotel at the airport. Immigration was alerted that I had too many visa exemption stamps. I was quickly interviewed by a supervisor and told that I wouldn't be allowed back to thai if I didn't obtain a visa before returning. I explained that I was a tourist, worked overseas but was renting an apartment but over the previous year had also traveled to Japan, Malaysia and Singapore but always returned to see my gf first. The immigration supervisor then typed a message on my passdport profile that will automatically alert when I pass through immigration everytime. I also explained that the closest embassy in Africa was over 2000kms away from where I am working and that I hadn't stayed more than 90 days in the previous 6 months in Thailand. The immigration supervisor informed me that it's her rules and she can do as she pleased. I managed to get a work mate to take my passport to the UK for me and I obtain a multi enrty tourist visa. I am due to fly back to Thailand in 2 days but I not sure if they will grant me entry. I plan to apply for a 5 year Elite Privileged Entry but i am unsure this make any difference? Seems like I got the supervisor on a bad day.

  9. I work overseas doing 2 month on 1 month off roster. I never had a problem returning to Thailand on a tourist visa until now. Depending on which immigration officer you meet at your re entry it may be a problem. I have been told that I will be denied entry unless I have organise a visa before arrival. Working in West africa the closest Thai embassy is about 2000kms away.Looks like they are going to lose another quality tourist?

  10. What's happening with the non existence of track days for motorcycles at BRIC? I contacted the track and they have no scheduling for ride days for next few months. On completion of the track there where numerous press leases saying that there would be regular support for motorcycle track days on a regular schedule. With the popularity of big bikes being sold in Thailand and the large crowds at the World Super Bike race just seems a waste of resources. With BIRA long overdue for a major upgrade what can be done to get a look in at this world class track?
