  1. Hi guys,

Planning on hopping back to the US in a couple weeks and wondered what was the cheapest flight destination back to us? I can book a Cathay Air ticket to LAX for just under B24k. Not too bad, just under $700US.

Originating from Phuket, but where I land is not that important, as I want to do a little traveling around the country before getting back to work.

I assume that LAX is the cheapest but sometimes there are little known destinations that cost less for whatever reasons.

    Thank you for you time,

    Michael

  2. Thank you ubonjoe and evilbaz.

Is the TM28 the form the landlord should have filled when we rented the property? If not, I can file it myself bringing only the lease and passport?

The main office is the one listed as the Phuket Port Immigration Office on the East coast?

    Thanks again,

    Michael

  3. Hi guys,

A search turned up very little.

We are new to Phuket, moved into Kathu and am looking at doing my 90 report in about 3 weeks. Can't do online as I haven't reported at this address before. Can't mail yet because it's our first report here.

Are there multiple immigration locations on Phuket? If so, is one better than the others?

    Thank you for the information,

    Michael

  4. My wife (Thai) was tired of automatics, so we started looking at these bikes, and other similar ones. She has had the MSX for 3 days and absolutely loves it. It takes her where she wants to go, and she is loving the control and fun of shifting gears. The mileage is huge as well.

The Kaw didn't excite her. She finally committed to the MSX mostly because of Honda's reputation and the aftermarket availability of custom add ons. Everything from dual exhaust options, big bore kit, huge customizability.

I had ZERO luck pushing her towards a small cc'd 'sport bike', or the smaller, upright cruisers They were just too heavy for her, and she was not interested.

A backpack when needed for toting stuff, and otherwise she is loving the MSX. We are happy with the build quality, fit and finish, and my research indicated that Honda didn't really 'cheapen' the build for a small market. The parts are mostly of the same hi quality that Honda is known for. Sort of a big bike design shrunk down to mini size.

Just wanted to give a differing opinion here.

  5. Hi guys,

A search here for moving options came up empty. (Surprising!)

Wondered what the options were for moving our stuff from Bangkok to Phuket?

Most Thais tell us they use the Post Office for everything (and we will probably use their motorbike delivery).

We wondered if there was a moving truck option? Rent a guy and a truck for a day? Pay expenses and rental fees. Maybe even get to ride with him to relocate?

Advice and web addresses (english or Thai) are appreciated!

    Thank you,

    Michael

  6. It's hard to believe that anyone would be stupid enough to pay that but no doubt Apple fans will pay anything.

Yes, we are incredibly stupid. Thanks for stating this, as it is always fun to hear from holier-than-thou folks that call others stupid for not making the exact same choices as they make.

  7. Hi guys,

We have True internet and they installed the Technicolor TC7200. It works okay, but is sure an old design. The manufacturer never even supported the USB port. There are some things I would like to do with my home network now and I am not sure the best way to do it.

First, I would like to embed my VPN into the router so that all my devices automatically use VPN without needing a client on the device.

Second, I want to build/install a NAS/Media Server and put it on my network.

Want to have USB ports to plug in items to back up on the net.

    Time Machine backups (NAS feature).

My question is pretty simple, I guess. Should I leave the True modem/router in place and just add another router to the network using a port on the TC7200?

Should I buy and replace the True unit with one I buy locally, hopefully a better, more recent model (DD-WRT capable)?

If I do replace it, what is the procedure for getting True network to recognize/authorize it?

Or am I just stuck with using what True gave us?

    Thank you

    Michael

tl;dr Can I replace my True Cable modem/router with something better?

  8. I went and got a 6s plus today. Had to search about a dozen shops before I found anything other than 16gb models available. Seems those aren't selling at all and everywhere had them.

I could only find a 64gb model in gold which is my least favorite color option but I don't really care that much. Plenty of 6s around but the 6s plus seemed a bit harder to find. From what I can see the 16gb model will be the worst selling iPhone in history.

    Cool

Where did you finally find it?

What was out the door price?

    Confirm it was unlocked?

    Thanks

    Michael

  9. Something even weirder to me. We have True 30mbps service. I just went to testmy.net and ran the combined test.

I got about 2mbps down and about 3mbps up. (Yuck!)

I then booted and connected my handy VPN app and connected to a server in Seoul.

I got 26.8mbps down and about 3mbps up. (Hmmmm)

My pings to Singapore average 290 to 300msec. Seoul 100 to 110msec.

    Wait, what?

  10. Hi guys,

I see the newest movies on disc available in the street shops that have Thai subtitles and/or thai dubbed soundtracks. Sometimes even before they hit the theaters.

Are there any online sources to downloading same from the internet anywhere? I can't even find many thai subtitles available on subtitles.org.

We have plenty of kids cartoons we have downloaded (Ice Ages, Shreks, Incredibles, etc.), my wife loves them, but when we have little kid relatives come over it would be nice to be able to play versions with Thai language.

    Any help is much appreciated,

    Michael

  11. Yesterday we returned from a few days touring Angkor Wat, etc and made the crossing at the Poipet crossing (east Thailand, west Cambodia).

I have a Non Imm O-A and just happened to glance at the stamp after passing the IO. '90 days'. Oops. Went back in line to see the same IO and explained that it was supposed to be one year. She looked very confused and argued that 'only 90 days'.

I politely asked her to get her supervisor, and he explained to her the error. It was fixed (with a line out and an initial by her, that has me more than a little worried) and we went on our way.

So, just a heads up, check the stamp, make sure you get the time your papers allow you.

  12. Thanks to all the informative posts so far.

As a fix for the short term, this comes to you from Cambodia. The wife and I took this hiccup to mean it was time to see Anchor Wat. Got here 2 days before my 90 days was up and we go back tomorrow. Gives me another 89 days to get everything straight and try for another report in late January. No telling what hoops may be in place by then!

Thanks for all the great info

  13. Just some clarification, we DO have a written lease. In both english and Thai. The IO was completely uninterested in the lease. Without the house paper and the owner ID, he said there was nothing he could do. My wife asked if we could fill out the TM30 on the spot, he reiterated that we would not get the approval without the house book and copy of ID. There was no room for discussion.

    Michael

Looks like he is abusing his authority, then, and a call to 1178 needs to be made, as suggested by Maestro.

I agree that he was less than helpful, but we are still in this short term bind. We will take care of the immediate issues and then worry about the abusing IO.

  15. I like to travel so make it a point to schedule my trips so that 90 day reporting is not necessary but if I did need a 90 day report would certainly do that online....anything to avoid a trip to Immigration.

First report must be made in person so as to get copies of the required papers to input into the system. Subsequent reports can be online, or via post, if you don't move.

  16. Under the circumstances you've stated, I honestly think the whole matter could best be sorted out by your Thai wife who shares the same language and cultural background as the Imm. officer.

I definitely believe while it may not be a conscious thing on their part, the officers feel better about dealing with a Thai individual rather than a falang

Good luck to you in the end.

My wife did talk to him. He told her flat out that the required paperwork was the only solution. Then told us to move on as there were others waiting for his time.

    Michael

  17. The quickest and cheapest solution has already been advised.

Book into a hotel for a couple of nights. They will submit the TM30 and use your receipt is proof of address.

You don't actually have to sleep there.

This is interesting. I could go into Bangkok, and get a room for a couple days. Then use the receipt as proof of residency to make my 90 day report?

No house book or owner ID required? Just need to make sure that the hotel registers their guests with immigration.

    Thanks,

    Michael

  18. Your choices are limited.

Best do a border run for new entry.

Skip the report for now and pay a 2000 baht fine later.

For the sake of argument, say I decided to blow off the report, and not do a border run.

Sometime in the future, I move and the new landlord files the TM-30, blah, blah, blah. Then, 80 some odd days later, I try to make another 90 day report. What happens? The officer notes that I missed one and fines me 2000baht? Then the new report flows from there? Or who assess the fine and when?

    Thank you,

    Michael

  19. You need to exit before you exceed 90 days (or it may be picked up when you make report and fine imposed). No such paperwork has been required in Bangkok if a move is possiable.

You could walk across at Savannakhet or Nong Khai (easy bus/train to there). Or you could fly anywhere and return. Maybe a short vacation. Longer trip would be Penang/Georgetown but a nice change (old city).

Thinking about a run to Myanmar with these guys:

    http://www.siamvisarun.com/home.html

Looks quick and easy. Anyone used it?

Not doing the 90 day report will cost you 2.000 baht fine.

Never said I wasn't going to report. Wanted to know if the 7 day past window applied to leaving the country. But I get what you are saying.
