If arriving with a tourist visa, there is no requirement to have a flight out of Thailand. Do make sure, however, that you have over 20,000 baht equivalent in cash or travelers checks in a major currency.

I am not sure what they will ask for at the Thai Embassy in Brussels. Check if they require an onward flight out of Thailand within some specified period to issue you with an SETV. If they do, it does not need to be a return flight back to Belgium. A cheap flight to a neighboring country will be accepted. You can usually find these for about 25 EUR.

thank you very much for the answer.

There is a general problem that about 75% of the information you can find online about Thai immigration rules is at least partially outdated or outright wrong. There is no way of easily identifying the minority of resources that are actually correct, especially as those you would expect to be definitive are often the least accurate.

How is someone to know they should ignore the Ministry of Foreign Affairs website and look for answers from @ubonjoe on a random message board?

excuse me, but  the Ministry of Foreign Affairs website doesn't help me   :

    6. EXTENSION OF STAY

Those who wish to stay longer or may wish to change their type of visa must file an application for permission at the Office of Immigration Bureau located on Government Center B, Chaengwattana Soi 7, Laksi, Bangkok 10210, Tel 0-2141-9889 (or at http://www.immigration.go.th ). The extension of stay as well as the change of certain type of visa is solely at the discretion of the Immigration officer..
  3. i plan to come to thailand 1st september with a setv , during my stay i'll marry my thai gf and get a permit of 1year stay based on marriage... shall i also be denied on arrival if my return fly is booked  for 6/7 months after my first entry (lets say 5 april) ???

with all i read here , i scare i 'll be denied ....:sad::sad: and i guess the thai embassy in brussels 'll never give me the visa (should be better after all)...

what about with a return flight "open"  ???? (+/- 200 euros more expensive )  i phone the embassy tomorrow but what will happen again at the immigration desk on my arrival in bangkok ???

by the way somebody here has an idee for me ? i cannot get the metv (financial restrictions:sad:)

For any permission to stay, the reentry permit is valid up to the expiry of the permission to stay. If you return to Thailand before the expiry of the permission to stay, you can enter Thailand using the reentry permit. Thus, your maximum time outside Thailand before returning with your extension of stay intact depends on the remaining duration of that extension. For example, if you have an extension of stay (with associated reentry permit) that expires 20 February 2018, you can leave Thailand and return at any time up until 20 February 2018 and your extension of stay will still be valid. If you return after 20 February 2018, you will need a new visa or visa exempt entry.

very clear , thank you for the answer... glad to read that

As long as you don't have a valid re-entry permit your extension of stay will end as soon as you exit, and you can apply for the visa whenever you want.

in this case (extention of stay based on marriage) i wil get a reentry permit, ok. but howlong can i stay outside thailand before reentry ?

want to go back to belgium for a (?) time (for whatever reason) : 3, 4, 5 or 6 months is it possible ?

  6. one small one (5/6.000 thb) with small freezer comp. would suffice for me , my wife and 2 children as we buy fresh food everyday , and go to market 2 times a week...  the food my wife has cooked is eaten the same day... and we buy ice cubes everyday

yes maybe necessary  only when  we buy few kilos pork from the neighbors , or chicken wings/breasts from tesco .

American earning only 15k? There's impossible unless he has made a poor choice, or the hours are much much shorter, or it's in rural Thailand, or for some other strange reasons. 15k for NES is unheard of, and nobody in the right mind should be taking up such low wages (unless you're from Philippines and that's even too low for them).

What's wrong with 30 days? I've known people who came here on a tourist visa, fell in love with Thailand, didn't want to leave, found a teaching job, managed to stay for years, found the love of his life, got married and are still living here after more than 10 years.

I think you are optimistic too much, realistic  at all  NOT

Well, since you are from UK, you can VERY EASILY find a job teaching English in Thailand, tons of people stay here through this method, but why you should just ensure that you've got enough money to cover yourself for 30 days and then decide whether this country is for you, then if you decided to stay, then you can get your pick of the teaching job everyone will be throwing at you.

a job teaching English in Thailand  ????

do you know how much he will earn from this "job"  ?  the english teacher (from america) was paid 15.000 thb a month in a primary school near my home ........

for 30 days and then decide whether this country is for you  ????

do you think he (or anyone else) will be able to decide after only a small "30 days hollyday" ?

Don't take any notice of chickenslegs. As long as you leave all the stickers on it will work fine. The one he looked at in Tesco probably had the stickers removed. The more sticky labels it has, the better value it is. That's all you need to check. But remember, DON'T REMOVE THE LABELS. Otherwise it won't work. The Thais got wise to this long ago.

felt already a little bit humo in the post before , thank you for your reply....

I'm sure someone will come along to move it to a suitable forum. But, if you want an answer to your question, you need to give the size and price at least.

What I do - when I want to get an idea of whether I am paying the right price - is go to the Lazada or similar website and look up the price there.

I never buy appliances from Tesco, since I once asked why a fridge had been reduced in price by 500 Baht and the salesman said (I am not kidding) "Because it doesn't get cold".

thank you for the answer. i 'm going to edit my topic
