  1. That movie review differs slightly from the one I read ..in that they just targeted specific Wall St guys ,and that it was a revenge motive .not sure what for ..
I guess I could watch it to find out .
It opens at cinemas on about the 26th , but is already available on my Android box movie app.

  2. AFAIK Makro is the only store that makes you leave empty bags at the desk, everywhere else we don't have a problem putting them in the empty trolley.  Backpacks and small cases etc might be a problem, but I don't see that with an empty shopping bag. They do it in most western countries so why not here?
So everyone has a different experience ..
I go to Makro .(.Suk' Rd , Pattaya ).
My backpack goes in the trolley, it has 5 or 6 ex-Tops plastic bags in it ..I do my shop in store ,never once been requested or required to leave my bag at the counter.
I actually show the guard my bag and contents ..no problem ( until now :( )

  3. I don't claim to know much about the P.I. (as I have never lived there) but this is what I found for retirement visas there:

SRRV (10k USD deposit for 50 and above with a pension of at least $800.00 per month) or 20K deposit without a pension.
    or
SRRV for Veterans is only $1,500.00 bank deposit (with a pension of $1000.00 or more)
You realize that deposit is there for the life of the visa ,basically untouchable .( Not like the Thai version)
The veterans .. refers to ex military vets and only from countries that have a military relationship with PI .

  4. I guess you have to start packing your things Kitten Kong ...or rethink your position and buy some damn pants before your next visa is needed!!!
When they had similar dress code at Philippines BI offices ( until about 4 yrs ago ) .there used to be a guy renting out skanky track pants , outside the Mandaue Cebu office ..to pull on over your your beautifully tailored , expensive dress shorts ..:) ..
Guys used to say .. " I'm not wearing long trousers in the Philippines " ..
But they soon came to heel when they couldn't get a visa extension.

Jomtien ..it appears from the OP is not totally banning all shorts ..just beachwear and abbreviated styles.

  5. My plan today is the buffet lunch at tiger park, 150 baht (thaiprice with pinkID) for a huge hotel style buffet lunch, and I know it will be full, of tourists arriving in buses. Hopefully I wont have to wait to long for a table.

  6. “There she will easily get a three year visa without bothersome financial hassles”

How? What kind of PI Visa?  I researched living in Manila or Cebu for years and discovered the PI’s version of the Retirement Visa is more difficult to obtain the LOS.
    You can stay 3 yrs on a tourist/ temporary visa ( 9a I think ) .
Need to renew .. can get 6 monthly renewal s , at least 2 of those , and 60 day renewals ,up to 3 yrs ,then you must leave the country ( visa run ) ,and good for another 3 yrs .

  7. Not all areas in Cebu are highly polluted. Best to check out yourself where is acceptable.
Mactan less traffic and pollution but often need to cross these 2 bridges that can be traffic..Also Cebu city near the new Robinson Galleria mall is not a congested area definitely better air then the innercity and with big roads besides the mactan channel its very comfortable there and your living right besides 2 big shopping malls..

Look you probably think you are doing someone a great service ,writing this stuff ..but , really , you are so far off the mark with some of it , im thinking you perhaps need to do some real boots on the ground research before posting this advice .
Mactan , less traffic, less pollution .. Not the 3 years I lived there !

  8. IT park is a private compound with guards at all entrances therefore most jeepnies are not allowed to pass through it so there are way less Jeeps driving at IT park as in comparison the public roads!
Ayala doesn’t have better air quality than the Sm city/Robinson galleria area because that area runs right besides the huge and wide Mactan channel in case you haven’t notice that fact either after your 8 years living in Cebu duhhh..
IT Park is not a private compound .. Never seen a guard on the entances from Salinas Ave ..had a gf working as a call center agent in there , was in and out picking her up regularly .

  9. From the threads I have read (there have been few recently), you will be flown back to where you embarked. Meaning Japan.
You will be paying for flight ticket. The airline company will be along.
A friend of mine was recently flown back to Vietnam ( his original point of departure) ,but they didn't want him because of the rejection stamp in his passport from Thailand.
So they kept him confined until he could arrange a ticket to Italy , his home country.
When that eventuated, his flight went through Hong Kong ..guess what !
They also kept him confined until his flight to Italy was due to leave ..

  10. 1. The easiest thing to do is to apply online.  The property owner will apply for a username and password that will allow them to login easily and register any guests or tenants that are staying on the property.  The biggest drawback is that the online system is still very temperamental and it’s often the case that once applied they will not receive their login credentials. If you’re using the online system, it’s important that you receive a confirmation of the registration. (Online Site is down – Currently there is no answer as to when it will be back up and running)

So the online reporting system is not even working properly?? What a big Joke !
So how do you get the part of the TM30 form ( the receipt I guess you could call it ) that you keep in your passport .
My landlord brought it back to me , I stapled in the back section.
Immigration officer usually visually checks it when I do a 90 day report.
I guess that only applies to people who have ongoing contact with the immigration office.

  11. Have you not noticed that every single vendor in Thailand uses a calculator, even for something as simple as 100 plus 50 baht?

I think it's fair to say that maths is not taught very well in Thailand, therefore most people cannot do the sums in their head to figure out which is the best deal.

But I've noticed , that the market vendors mostly only do that with me and other farang ,but verbalize the price to Thai customers , I think it's just a way to ensure that there is no mistaken communication about the price .
