  1. I am on a Non Imm O Visa and was unaware of this condition. First time I went to Immigration, AFTER a 90 day trip out of Thailand for my visa to Laos, my partner, who had signed the contract for the house we rent was fined 800 baht for not reporting with 24 hours. Hence, I was ultimately the one who paid. We have no learnt the conditions and know that it is OUR responsibility to know the rules and regulations relating to visas and immigration as I am the visitor in this country. No use questioning, arguing or anything else, I broke the rules, so I paid the fine. End of story. Now, if I have any issues, I ask the staff at Immigration who are very friendly and approachable.

  2. I have always written my stat dec in AUD and then the conversion using the rate from Bangkok Bank for that day, since that is the bank I am with. When I then go to Immigration, they never accept my conversion and go online and redo it, To be fair, it is a couple of days later and the actual figure has probably changed by a hundred baht or so. Always do their job letter to their law, which I suppose, is a credit to them and I can never fault them whenever I visit.

  3. I rent for 5000 baht in Isaan, nice three bedroom house, good kitchen, three bathrooms and aircon in main bedroom, great landlady. We supplied all furniture. We do minor repairs such as get aircon cleaned, septic tanks cleaned. I do the grout in the tiles in the bathrooms and kitchen, simply because I can and it improves the house and keeps everything clean and up to date. We do the cutting of trees and other necessary gardening.

The house was initially cleaned by landlady but needed some major cleaning which I undertook, no problems as it was left poorly by previous farang.

It depends if you are going to be a good landlord or not in terms working with your tenants or not regarding giving them some space as our landlady has and trusting us.

  4. My partner was out of work at the time of appling for a visa to Australia. I am Australian. I provided the guarantor status and organised two character references for him, one being from a Thai in a good work position, the other being the landlady. We provided photos showing us together in various places we visited. We had to provide his bankbook and copies of his and my passports. We were successful in the application probably because we demonstrated he was not a flight risk in Australia as we both live in Thailand and have plans here. The issue is, as mentioned my others is  that your partner is not going to be a flight  risk in Australia. Have everything paper ready and the Thai ones signed by your partner and the Australian ones signed by you to expedite the process. Get there early! ps We only complete the application in September so my info is up to date.

  5. The Nakhon Phanom Immigration Office expects me to go and report every time I return from overseas, otherwise they fine my partner and in essence, me 800 baht. They will get me the next time I do a 90 day extension otherwise. So it seems to depend on the office. And I must admit, the Officers at the office are fantastic and if this is what they require, then I will follow.

  6. Use one all the time in the living room, no a/c. Keep it clean. Wouldn't be without it. Keeps the room cool, extremely effective. Dog sleeps at the base of it. Contented. So if he is ok, then I know it works!. Without it, the room would be up many degrees. Use air con in the bedroom at night, and of course a fan, having a Thai partner, the two have to go together.

  7. Don't worry, I am sure it happened, at the Festival of Lights in Nakhon Phanom, a huge crowd and all I felt was a brush past me, but I was very aware and I slapped the hand and turned and it was an older Lao lady and she definitely was into pickpocket trade. She started shouting at me trying to draw attention from her, but she was shocked as I pointed at her and gave her two barrels back, and louder. She hence, lost face immediately, drew attention to her and she started to try and back off and I just kept at her until she pushed thru the crowd and disappeared. My partner did not understand my actions until I explained and then he tried to find her to report her to the police, but needle in the haystack stuff. But I found it better to go on the attack when I clearly knew her activity in this instance. Piece of scum!

  8. As a retired JP, I would say it is a legal document and you do not have the authority to touch the document. The Immigration Dept are conducting legal business with the staples and the damage that occurs is a necessary by-product of the process. Ultimately, if the page does break off, it would be just advisable to keep it and if questioned, then show the piece that has come off. Then there can be no claims of tampering. I do not think that some people really understand the absolute importance of a pp and the condition that it should be maintained and its legal importance to each person.

  9. I crossed into Laos at Mukdahan for three month extension, stayed one night. When next at Immigration Office, the Officer checked my passport and gave my partner an 800 baht fine for not declaring my residence due to my 'long term' period out of Thailand. I won't argue with the local office, need to keep in their good books, so I now know, one night out, file in the form, for the local office.
