  1. It might sound overly protective to impose a curfew on the kids, but to some extent the measure is needed. It is for their own sake; for their own safety as well as preventing them from causing a public nuisance after dark. Most importantly, I don't think it's sensible for Thai children to venture out after dusk since nowadays the city and other big Thai provinces seem to be saturated with sick-minded farangs who seek to prey on minors.

I have no statistics on this, but doubt criminal cases against 17-or-less old children committed by farang are only a very minor part of all crimes against children. Most is 'Thai only' business. Mind you the new curfew is also meant to combat crimes by children.

PS to be sure, in no way do I want to defend 'sick-minded' farang, neither sick-minded Thai.

What about the other 80% that behaves like children under 18 years?

  2. What's illegal about seeking employment? I thought only working with a tourist visa is illegal?

And I also thought that also a tourist 60 day visa can be applied for 3 times within a year only. No?

That means that you can never travel to Thailand to seek work unless you have been invited to do so, and have a letter that approves your non-B.

So a job in Thailand can only be found online or by connections with people that live in Thailand. Is that what it means ?

Then people have to provide you a non-b letter before your interview. And that is impossible! In some immigration offices they don't just ask you a letter, but all the information of the company. How will you ever get this when they haven't even hired you??

Yes I am aware of the huge amount of illegal workers in Thailand, people that will never get a pension, or maybe even drink so much that they cannot practically be alive at the time they cannot work anymore (and normally would receive a pension). What are they all doing here then....

All I can say is that Freedom does not exists in the world, and Thailand is a great country to learn this.

Thai Nationalism will make sure that you will always be and feel like an outsider, Thailand should favor you being here and the other way round, who cares!

What you favor about thailand is probably not the thing that Thailand is proud off, so everyone who will contribute to Thailand's bad reputation should go in the first place. Or you could do that job that illegal workers normally do, like the Burmese. Thai just want to make clear that Foreigners don't own this country, even if some think they do. Everything seems so easy, as if they can play gods. While this behavior is not possible anywhere in the world, why would anyone expect it from Thailand. Maybe they're not so fast, but they learn by mistake, that's all.

  3. You can also not take advantage of the Thai's.

Chinese seem to have done rather well, considering they de facto run the country. :)

Because they're not seen as FARANG. I never heard any thai say FARANG to Chinese people, because they know where they come from, so it's Chinese people.

It's the FARANG (Impossible to see from which country they come, at least by asians) who should keep away. hahaha

  4. I worked as a project manager for 2 years some time back. It was one of the most frustrating times in my professional career.

THE most frustrating aspect that I found was the almost complete inability to make a finite decision.

They are so afraid of making the wrong one; they will do anything to avoid this. I think it comes from a culture of "if they make a mistake, they are personally libel for that mistake.

Have you ever seen how the 7/11 girl will count out your change 2 or 3 times? That’s because she will be libel for any shortfall in the till. This culture is spread right through the Thai workforce and causes incredible delays in production.

    A simple example of what I mean is;

One time several trades were being held up for weeks by the slow progress of laying floor tiles in concourse 2. When I investigated I found out that every single tile was counted 2 or 3 times before it went out of the factory onto the truck. Then they are counted again when they are unloaded. They are then counted again when they are distributed to the site shed and then again when they are distributed to the tile layers. Not only are they counted they are checked for any chips or cracks. When they finally get to the trades men they handle them like they are blocks of gold and if any are chipped or cracked when they are laid, they will pay from their wages.

Can you imagine the delays this would cause? This is the same right throughout the construction process. It is the main reason construction time lines get drawn out to obscene proportions.

And the really weird thing is, they cannot see anything wrong with this!

Another thing they tend to do is lie, ALL THE TIME. I have sat in countless meetings and they will look you right in the eye and tell you porkies about completion times, progress etc and if you challenge them they act like you just insulted their Mum!

Anyone who has worked in Thai construction will know what I am talking about. :)

Don't take this too personally, but surely if you've been managing a team for two years and you can't get them to perform then haven't you failed as a manager?

I take it you've heard the expression "a worker blaming his tools".

Move over and let someone else have a go.

This is all experience with working with Thai's. IF you look at the Thai perspective. You're still a guest here in their country. A country which unlike most neighboring countries has never been taken over or conquered by any foreign country. THat leaves some pride, which is embedded in the Thai. You as a foreigner have no right to change anything in this country. You can also not take advantage of the Thai's. This counts for most Thai's especially in Bangkok, who carry a sort of proudness that will never go away until they study abroad, and witness that their education is worth nothing more then a secondary degree abroad. Only then they become part of the global world and a global way of viewing both work and education. BUt once they've been abroad they mostly never return, and especially not to work for foreigners in their own country....

  5. That is how some people in Thailand react, when love becomes revenge, weapons are involved. Because words are not strong enough. Pain, get it over with, by ending everything that causes that pain. Not knowing that this will be a lifetime replacement of the biggest pain there is.

Breaking Hearts: Why do people always forget that every pain will cure itself, after every pain is a relief, this might be dead, or a better life!!!! and every pain will always make you better in the end, (after being sick you get better, better then before you were sick)

it's a transformation, every buddhist should know this. Taking responsibility over someone's life by ending it will lead to severe punishment not only by law, but also by nature. You will suffer your entire life, or if you believe in reincarnation, lives ...

I hear many thais threaten with killing each other when someone will break up or cheat on them, and in some cases they go for it..

"You are my life, I invested in you, I would share my life with you, you are mine! Now you're with someone else, that is a life threat, because when you are gone, all I am right now is together with you, so without you, I am nothing, I am dead.......so you are dead too!"

Or " Being this asshol_e I can never find anyone like you anymore, I might even end up alone for the rest of my life, so I might as well end your life too"

I am really sorry for the people that were killed.

  6. Thanks for the answers, but it did not bring me any further... :o

Yes my Multiple entree NON-B visa expired on 15 January 2009, And so I got an extra 3 months on top of that, and that is where I am now.

Now this visa expires 5 April. I have a workpermit that is valid until 30 April.

Does this count and be a liable way to extend my Non-B visa till 30 April?

You need to obtain a new visa/entry if you plan to work until the 30th of April. You have not made extension of stay so suspect your work/company probably does not qualify for that (and a normal extension from Immigration would be only 7 days).

Ok thank you for the answer, so this extension can be just for 7 days? And cost me 1900THB?

  7. Not sure where you heard your info from....basically you have 10 days to return the work permit or pay a fine..and if your visa was made in the country based on your work permit it will expire also....but.....don't believe everything you hear or read.

When you stop working and are on an extension of stay you have to leave the country the same day or get an extension of stay for 7 days for 1,900 baht.

OP is not on an extension of stay.

    OP? Old People?

  8. Thanks for the answers, but it did not bring me any further... :o

  9. My workpermit ends on 30 April while my visa expires on 5 April, which is the last 15th month extension. Can I still get an extension or new visa?

I have a 3 month work permit which I do not yet know if it will be extended by the employer.

I heard that your NON-B VISA & Your WORKPERMIT have nothing to do with each other looking at dates. You can even keep your work permit now, and no new one will be applied if you get back to work in the same year, is that true?

    Please help me out here

    Cheers.

  10. Hahaha, this is happening all over the world, not just in Thailand. In the Netherlands youth of around 13-16 do the same thing, just for a new handbag or new mobile phone! It's our society which is the blame, making everyone proud of their ego's and identify with their ego survival instincts, just to keep us stupid enough to see the need for these products as a means to survive. "Showing off" is still a way of security and identification, and is still a deep rooted way of survival. Thank you world!!

Wasn't it Buddha who teaches a way that made us able to see that this ego identification is an illusion and only leads to suffering? And by learning to see this ego in action, we see it's not us, and let us all identify with our hearts, from where we are able to do everything our heart feels like, and we can identify with everything we want to experience!

Hey isn't Thailand a Buddhist country, strange? That no one actually lives by the teachings anymore!!!!!!!

We're all driven by our unconscious way of survival, and security, and so OUR EGOS ARE LEADING OUR LIVES!

I PRAY TO BUDDHA AND GET LUCK AND SO I AM A GOOD PERSON

I NEED THIS HANDBAG AND SO I GIVE MY BODY TO BE ABLE TO BUY IT, SO I AM NOTHING MORE THEN AN HANDBAG.

I AM AN OBJECT! USE ME! SO THAT I CAN BUY ANOTHER OBJECT TO USE!

I identify solely with the body I am in..... 555555

  11. There is still a good place to apply for a multi NON-B and that is of course your home country. All the Thais want is that you would visit your family back home once in a while. 5555

Another thing is, Thai LOGIC does not exist!

Research has shown that in Thailand, there is no clear sign of a logic way of thinking coming from the Thai.

I would love to know, what kind of companies are most people running that stay out of luck in Thailand?

  12. That we humans are Postcautious beings should be a Precaution!!

First something has to become disasterous before we find out we have to do something about it.

This counts for this entire planet and all natural disasters. First people must die, things must burn, get flooded, get sick or explode before we find out we should prevent the same thing to happen in the future. This shows that we reached a state faaaaar away from the Natural environment we are in. We are the only creatures on this planet that nature cannot warn before something happens because we disconnected ourselves completely from it.

We should be the one on this planets to provide a balance where nature cannot, but in stead we create an even greater unbalance on this planet so that Nature is not able to provide it's own precautions.

    To deep?

    But it's true!!!
