  1. "It means drug screening for employment purposes is a disgraceful, hypocritical imposition."

    I agree.
But unfortunately I'm forced to live in the real world and the nature of my work forces me to submit to pre-employment drug screening for jobs and then random drug screening when I am performing the work.
I guess I could refuse by my family and I have all gotten used to the roof over our heads and the food on our table.

P.S.  BKK-CNX hospital performs drug screening. Unsure of the cost

    Good looking palm.

What insecticide do you use to keep the beetles off those?  I’ve lost a few to beetles boring into the emerging leaves.

From train station 30 meters before Ping River light on left is a large ag shop.  Not sure they have the mix you want.  Not much choice 10+ years ago and we used 15-15-15.

Another was about 40 meters north of the Thai Airlines office same side but they may have relocated.

Thanks for the info and my apologies for misleading you, that beautiful palm is not mine, it’s just a file photo I used to illustrate what type of palm I was referring to.

  3. Thank you all for your informative (and sometimes entertaining) comments and input. I do appreciate your taking the time to answer.
For the record, it's not that I'm being cheap, it's just that I have yet to find a decent liquor shop here in Chiang Mai that carries a wide selection of single malts.
I'm sure there are several in Bangkok but I rarely make it down there.
If anyone can suggest a few places in BKK, I'll be sure to check them out the next time I go.

In the interim, I'll continue to press my luck and bring back 2-3 bottles as I go back and forth.

If and when I do get caught up, I'll be sure to let the Forum know what transpired.
    Slainte!

  4. How is the duty on excess alcohol brought in to the Kingdom calculated?

Is it best to ensure you have a receipt showing the price you paid for the alcohol you’re bringing in?

Or perhaps a better question is has anyone voluntarily declared alcohol in excess of the allotted amount?  ;-)

    Thank You.

If it is only vanity or beauty related there are lots of Thai clinics in the heart of Old Town Phuket (in around Dibuk road) if you google around you will find some of their websites.  Prices at those street clinics are more reasonable and you can ask for a quite before starting any procedure.

It's definitely a medically related issue, nothing to do with vanity or beauty.

  6. I have a teak bedframe and headboard that requires repairs beyond my (poor) carpentry skills.
Can anyone please recommend a shop and/or carpenter who can do the repairs?
I can deliver the piece to them.
Or does anyone know of someone who might be willing to take the job on?
    Thanks in advance.

  7. Can any forum members recommend a good shop in Chiang Mai to have an iPhone repair done?
This repair involves more than a simple cracked screenreplacement.
Whatever part interfaces with the touch screen needs to be replaced and it is beyond the skills of the shop I normally use.
    Thank you.

In over 20 years shopping at Tachilei, I have never has a "fake" bottle of booze.  Nor have I ever MET someone who HAS actually purchased a fake bottle of booze there.

I HAVE seen a number of posts claiming to know someone who knows someone who thought his bottle purchased in Tachileik was off.

And by the way, there is no duty-free in Mae Sai.

Cross the border at Mae Sai.  The dozens of duty-free shop in the Tachileik FreeTrade Zone will include stocks of the finest Scotland Whiskeys at prices WAY below those in Chiang Mai,

I purchased a bottle of the Kavlan over-proof single cask there and it was excellent.

Yes.  I also have first class insurance for it.

But if I need medical care for other than an accident, I'm out of pocket for the bill.

I have a battle currently going with the US Veterans Administration.  They pay all medical bills if Veterans are in the US, but if we choose to travel or live outside the US,we're screwed.

    brianwl,
    You are mistaken.
There are plenty of retired US vets here that get their bills at local hospitals paid for by the VA.
Have you been in touch with your local VFW Post?
They have service officers who are more than willing to help you navigate the complicated paperwork.

You can buy some of the lesser expensive Cuban cigars (H Upmann, Partagas, Montecristo petit coronas in tubos) and Villiger/Cuban minis at a liquor/tobacco store near the night bazaar. To find it, walk to the end of Loi Kroh Rd (passing Red Lion on your left and the Down Under on the right just before the street ends.) At the end of the street, turn left, walk approx two blocks on the left side of the street until you get to the store. It's pretty obvious which store it is since the storefront is filled with small cigars and pipe/loose tobacco. There's a yellow sign with a deer's head on it in front of the store. This place also has a small humidor with the aforementioned Cuban corona sized cigars. Those will be 450-550 THB and up.

    Diplomatico,

I'm directing a friend who is from out of town to this store via e-mail.
Is it before or after the Pornping Hotel as you walk towards Narawat Bridge.
    Thank you.
