It did rain for more than 3 hours, about this time of year in 2015. Flooding was far worse than it was last night. Far worse than any of the photos shown in this thread. I remember walking across Pattaya Tai, waist deep in water. Also saw 2 Aussies having a swimming race along Soi Diana.

I believe that the problem with drainage in Pattaya was caused a number of years ago when the beach side of Beach Road was upgraded. Many trees were removed and the level of the walkway was significantly raised. Pattaya is built on a steady slope from Sukhumvit to the Beach and storm water would run uninterrupted through Pattaya and into the sea. Once the boardwalk/promenade was raised, it acted as a dam and storm water backs up through Pattaya.

I live in East Pattaya which is elevated considerably above Pattaya, so no flooding here. However at the height of the storm, lots of thunder and lightening, my wife turned her mobile off and begged me to turn the TV off. I laughed at her. A couple of minutes later a lightening bolt grounded very close to the house. Huge crack, my wife screamed and even I jumped. It tripped out one circuit breaker, which I reset, but it had taken out one LED light and a power extension lead which was still plugged in outside (probably the source of the power surge). Luckily, my TV survived as it's fed via a surge protector.

Got several som nam nas from my wife and probably won't laugh at her again!

  2. Have done this many times , the french are the only airport (GDG) to ask me about traveling with no visa , much the same criteria as yourself  6 week trip ,return ticket from  manchester - CDG - bangkok . Explained  the trip to them AF check in desk, 1month on entry then after 3 weeks road trip to cambodia. When returning to Thailand from Cambodia 1 month on entry  so I am covered . After a long pause  supervisor was called over , the trip explained again as well saying Thailand has no issue ,they let me check in . What a pointless exercise it was. So basicly just explain your planes and they will let you continue on your way.

  3. Are the "happy zones"  going to replace the "tourist zones" or the "Safe Zones" and what happened to our boys on bikes in their orange shirts to make the tourists feel safe, how many more times are they going try selling use the same old line. time for a yawn , then start laughing !! what a bunch of self serving ego driven idiots the thai police force are.

  4. yes it is very quiet here in Pattaya, my girls had a bar here now for 9 years and honestly I can say , this is the least amount of people ive seen on the streets. My girl's bar has been kept going threw reputation and a good steady pack of expats, who enjoy a drink and a good chin wag. A lot of bars are now struggling the quality of the girls , there reluctance to put down there phones , if they do it is only to demand a lady drink. Their are still a lot to be offered by Thailand but they have to up there game , control there greed. Their are cheaper destinations who are chipping away at Thailand, but not as much as Thai greed destroying Thailand.
