  1. New Years is in April. They should post as Farang New Years. Also any beefed up security will be only rich areas. Thais (love them) never spend more money than needed. A good example is an ambulance (with a dying person inside) with sirens blazing sitting stopped behind some cars at a hundred plus sec intersection.

Call 911, you get McDonalds or Pizza Hut. Call ambulance, estimate 10-40 minutes travel time depending on traffic or time of day, Bangkok....Christ! Better to just die in dignity.

  2. sizzler do a great tasting cod and chips.

Kidding, right? Even in America, Sizzler is a joke, trailer trash food. Best fish & chips is impossible to say but guessing country of origin. Thailand, still haven't found & the foreigner restaurants are worse at international food than the Thais in larger cities, but everywhere seems even the small cities' foreigners can't even make Italian. Bangkok is the worst "all" food in the country. Would say, best international food goes to Chiang Mai & best sea food goes to the south...Krabi region (although one of the most polluted regions), excluding Phuket.

Yes they do fantastic cod and chips, try it before you make such a stupid comment! Every thing in America is a joke?

Agreed. But saying a fast food franchise has the best 'anything' makes you look like trailer trash saying, "I eat Spam, because it tastes good".

  4. Born & raised in Los Angeles since the late sixties but live Thailand now. Los Angeles is a feeding ground for gangs now, the rich of course stay their areas where the police are fat & well (legally) bribed. Outside the smell of urine & cigarettes when driving through Hollywood, the city as a whole is a cesspool of vagrants, crime, pollution & city corruption. Unlike any other country, there's the tourist cities & there's the one that real people live in.

  5. It's none of Cameron's or anybody else's business who the United States denies entry to.

Absolutely, I mean why should Cameron give a damn, about the rights of British citizens abroad ! wink.png

No UK citizen or anyone else in the world has "the right" to enter the US.

And I didn't say that they did, funnily enough many of us Brits feel the same, about 'The Donald', which will be interesting if he does get elected as POTUS. rolleyes.gif

But it does seem unusual that, having gone through all the usual pre-travel vetting by the USA, they then pulled the whole family at the late stage of boarding, when they had checked-in without a problem ? Especially with children going to Disneyland at Christmas-time !

No doubt further information will emerge, to explain why this happened.

Bring another question, why was "Disneyland" even interjected. Why throw a 'media' centerpiece into the story. They were either flying to California or Florida & taking a long time before flagging, well duh, a large Muslim group probably as much as not trying to be notice, were due to same reasons. Also doesn't matter if from the UK, sleeper cells are everywhere & have a habit of hiding behind children.

  6. "We are mostly interested in food, culture, and photography rather than a bar scene or hanging out with mostly tourists."

    Then I reccomend Hanoi

As most people. Hanoi is neither. It's the southeast version of Los Angeles in Nam, a toilet bowl filled traffic & overlooked violence. As a tourist best is the middle, starting with Hoi An. Check-in in Saigon, northern Vietnam, the predominate communist, hate-Americans' region is more busy (& having to be too alert) than fun.

  7. Best of luck. Most Thai builders I have seen are poor when it comes to getting things square or level and fail to think ahead

Sent from my Grand using Tapatalk

There are quality Thai builders too. My house was built by a farang builder. Thais still do the work and the contractor will tell you that if he shows up everyday they will quit. He may have 1 excellent man but as we all know 1 man cannot build a house alone.

I wish I had built with a Thai builder. My house would still have mistakes but it would have cost less.[/

Foreigner companies are usually more incompetent/corrupt than Thai companies as they know the loops & exploit them more. I live Ubon & still dealing with repairs 1 year after. Just need meet or get referred by nice houses or big companies, but stay away from small (outside stores) companies. And if they say they did many jobs in Pattaya or Phuket with either no pictures or pictures that could've easily been screen grabs or don't have photography file names, walk away.

  8. Anyone that "Lives" more than a month here knows where to go & at which times to go. Go home..."Tourist"! If you live here less than 300 days a year, you're a part-timer

It always amazes me that the same people who "know" how bad things are in Pattaya also claim they would never come here or who apparently spent all of their one or two visits to Pattaya in the same venues they supposedly so revile. They "doth protest too much, methinks," and reveal more than they intend about themselves.

Most of us who live in Pattaya easily avoid the comparatively limited areas that cater to the sex tourists.

Also most of us who live in a non-sin providence in Thailand know differences between a liar or pedophile. Pattaya is the most vile location in Thailand.

Some of us are not obliged to stay in locales that do not meet our standards. No one sane sticks around during Songkran, and I am quite happy to be outside of Thailand when dengue and malaria infections are at their peak.

Dengue...malaria...what century are you from? Thailand is an industrialized Nation!

PM calls for destruction of mosquito breeding grounds

    http://news.thaivisa.com/thailand/pm-calls-for-destruction-of-mosquito-breeding-grounds/121910/

Media will always exist. Mossies aren't that bad. Live Issan & they don't bother that much, small flies are much worse. Want a mosquito problem, go live in Lao.

  10. Like current gov as well, the army supervising the strict shutdown of bars in Udon at midnight is good. Also like to see Cowboy & the like shutdown altogether. Remove which feeds the so called mafia, remove the filth.

    No more fun allowed!

Yes, no fun for the delinquent or casual tourist. I live here & happily married in an area that has none of that. Those places attract the worst of people.

  11. Funny, with so many allergies already, your best remedy is to go home & stay there. Don't know any Thais with allergies in their country, thus they won't have any "real" allergy practitioners. Like Psychologists in Thailand, they're not real (educated), only put in place for the Farangs (white foreigners).

Most food problems here are from either the fiery hot spice/chillies or the (bad) chemical abundant sauces/beer or foods cleaned in tap water. As I'm not passionate about backpackers (always give wrong directions), if you eat food off a street stall, it's the same as eating food off the street.

  12. I doubt many countries will want to get in a diplomatic tit-for-tat with the United States. We say jump and you countries ask how high...like with this whole esta visa waiver program itself. All you citizens of countries in the program have to get an electronic clearance before flying to the United States, while me and my US passport can just waltze into all your countries at my leisure (the only exception I'm aware is Australia).

Yeah.... you don't get out much, do you?

    Here's the list

    http://cibtvisas.com/visa-quick-check

Admittedly, there's a few there I wouldn't want to travel to anyway.

    biggrin.png

Think you don't get out much either, as a US citizen, don't have to have a web link to cite where I can go. Also don't need a website to tell me whatever conflict is going on in the region, most of it are lies based on 'fear tactics'. This topic really is just, who the f....really cares blown out of proportion by media writing. There's obviously more to it, but also believe that the world should send more Muslims to England, it being the next Middle East.
