Put in a fab backsplash to tie in your terracotta walls. Island also sounds good to bring it up to modern standards.

That's my least concern. I don't want to hijack this to a technical/IT thread (my background).
But the encryption/safety procedures with the Thai banks are as safe or better than with "western" banks.
It's a common misconception that the threat comes from any interception of internet banking.
The real threats:
Giving away data for online shopping to "shady" sites.
Being fooled by pishing/fishing emails/SMS.
Social engineering attacks by phone calls from alleged bank employes.
Skimming devices/hidden cams at ATM machines.
All such stuff.
One weakness is indeed the possibility to use debit/card data for online purchases without two factor authorization.
So it might be a problem to hand over your card to some clerk/gas station attendant or the like.
One small improvement: note the three digit CVV number on the back of the card and then scratch it off.
Just a question. Since i was hacked and a lot of money was taken out, i've since had the money refunded by the bank and now lock my card and only unlock it to use it at an ATM. I am now using the QR code system to pay a lot of things or bank transfer. In your opinion is this the better, safer way to go?

I too am a loyal supporter of Eric. Been using his services for about 5 years in various countries. He has various options, which without a doubt, work amazingly well. The great feature and ease of having an android box with all your channels on it, is portability for us. We watch live TV mainly and you have so so many channels that you can get from anywhere around the world. If there is any problem at all you get notified and normally service is rectified within a short time frame. It's not perfect, it is IPTV, but the small problems that do occur time to time is nothing compared to the great service Eric supplies. Recommend his service whole heartedly. Just about to get a new box, after one of ours has decided it's worn out, with all our services preloaded on it. Couldn't ask for more.

So what! The mob here that aren't even in Phuket continually quoting the whole island is dead and nothing is open blah blah blah. It's not at all. Yes certain parts are all closed up of course, the island runs on tourism, but the constant rubbish rolled out on this site that Phuket is done and dusted is rubbish. You think in 4 days the island is going to be full of tourists?? Just ridiculous. Planes are coming and there are people coming. Tourist, expats returning who cares, it's generating income into Phuket and creating jobs. That is what this is all about.

I was at Don Mueang airport recently. Could not buy a beer once through customs/immigration. Could buy at 711 before. Insane.
There is a little kiosk near Gate 51 that was selling beer last week. Also Miracle lounge had alcohol too but of course had to pay to enter unless had the right card access.

I've had a SCB $US account for years and never have been told I have to change it to baht. I just transfer funds as I want them.

We have walls of glass around the bottom floor of our villa. It gets the morning sun and heats up the room. We had good quality window tinting installed and it made a huge difference. I would run the Ac for a while each morning to cool it down again while the sun was on it and close all the curtains to block the sun out. Now we no longer need to do that. Worked well for us.

I am definitely interested. It depends on the details and prices and the available quarantine hotels in Phuket. And, if they will allow people from my country.
We are interested as well. Wanting to get back to our house in Phuket. Just had an email from the resort so hopefully they might know more info in the near future.

That would be so painful. I had same experience with black henna in Egypt. She is going to be scarred for a long time. Took 12 months for it to disappear.

Both of you do not have to apply for an extension based upon retirement and show the financial proot. The other one can get an extension as your spouse based upon your extension.
Ok fab thanks heaps!! Was thinking we were going to be stashing a huge amount away for it.

So if we are both over 50 do we need a 800k each in the bank or 65k as income each?

Don't be too hard on the OP, I hear a very high percentage of expats get confused and do not know the difference between a visa and an extension. Or a visa and an entry stamp. Or a extension and a 90 day report, or entry stamp and a 90 day report. It goes on and on.
Im about to move to Thailand and start all this Visa, Extension, retirement etc etc etc. business and it terrifies me. And sure as hell not game enough to ask on here for the fear of being yelled at.....lol
Good luck to the poster....hope you get it sorted.

We have our Retirement visa's underway....just getting paperwork sorted. Been to the Thai embassy here and all can be done in one day. So that side is good. Medical....well that's another question and a lot of research to go through for what will be best for us I guess. I guess it was panic mode yesterday as we thought all was good to bring all our things without duty, only to be rudely awakened....lol We did receive information from a removalist to the worse case duty that could have to be paid and we can live with that.....just hopefully it doesn't happen......so 20ft container here we come...As to cost of living.....anywhere on earth is cheaper than the UAE....everything here is extremely expensive so Thailand will be great. We have our house in Phuket waiting for us and can't wait to get there to settle in.
thanks all
-
Thanks JAFO....no thai spouse...just 2 old aussies...lol I think we'll just fill our 20ft container and hope for the best...we have some more removalists coming for quotes and hopefully we can get some more insight as to rough idea of worse case scenario.
thanks again

Thank you all.....i contacted a member from an old thread on who they used and didn't get charged....getting a quote tomorrow from them and see how we go. if we have to pay that's ok, well sort of...lol, but i'd like to at least have a ball park figure that we MIGHT get hit with and then weigh up our options. Thanks for all your help.

Thanks heaps Charlie.....just devested if this is the case. I'm trying to find out what costs are likely to be but hard deciphering it all.

We are Australians looking to move to Phuket shortly. We are applying for a retirement visa and want to bring our furniture etc with us. We were told by the embassy here in Abu Dhabi, currently living in the UAE, that we could take our household belongings with us and not be charged on the items that are used, although she did recommend we don't take any electronic things with us at all. We are aware of some things being taxed, like new items, pushbikes, golf clubs etc. Does anybody know 1. How much is charged on these items....is it worth bringing "old" items with us....more for sentimental and also the added cost to replace..??? 2. Had removalist firm today saying that everything would be taxed unless on a Non Immigrant Visa "B". ....Everything I've read on the net doesn't mention this at all. Feeling totally lost and worried now that we will just have to dispose of all our loved things or payout an absolute fortune to bring it there.
Hope someone has some recent insight to this and can help...
thanks heaps

I've been using Eric's fab service for the last 6 or 7 years. Always been great service and if any problems with the streams, which does happen from time to time with IPTV, he will sort it and keep you informed on what is going on. Can't recommend him highly enough.
