  1. visit Bangkok regularly and was very pleased to have found this spa which was located close to the hotel I was staying.  I decided to give it a try thai massage here at de rest spa. We were very impressed and pleased with the top-knotch and personalised service we received from the staff and co-proprietor of the spa. The masseuses were all very experienced, spoke good English and were always full of smiles while paying close attention to our needs with a personal touch. The spa is very accessible via the Chit Lom BTS Station , exit 2 and provides a wide variety of options for massages, facial and spa treatments at reasonable prices and the ambience and decor of the spa was very relaxing as the premises were kept spotless, clean with a relaxing, fragrant scent. Needless to say,  It is highly recommended to make a booking in advance and also to pay in cash. (I am hoping they've got their credit card terminal set-up by now though).

  2. I came through last night and found that you have to queue. There were at least 12 lines with 20 people in each waiting for a taxi. There is, fortunately, a good shuttle to Mo Chit bus station (we only had hand luggage), ฿30.-. Try a phone app like uber?

Same here. I also landing at 5sth but need to queue for taxi until 7 only get taxi. there is way too many people.

  3. thank you everyone,

I have met a few people over the years and the ones from Bang na seemed to be the mid to upper mid so girls and reasonably well off middle aged people aproaching retirement. so was a bit confused,

when I went there, I found it a bit run down and very hectic, and a little bit dirty

so was wondering what the general consensus/reputation/image was

Everywhere also got those who are rich and not that rich mixing together. Many of my friends, they lived in Bang na but not everyone that rich,

It depend which area of bang na you have visited.

But if you want the image so I would say it's a middle class,

  4. Yeah, great place for tourists who have no idea that they can have better food elsewhere for a third of the price and that they are double-charged for a ride on that "London Eye" rip-off.

Can you clarify 'double charged" ?

Should I have only paid 125 Baht ?

Please post details of places in locations similar to Asiatique that are a third of the price.

Asiatique do charge non Thais a higher price than Thais to ride on the wheel ride. But not 3 times as much IME.

Last there in September. Wife, 2 kids and me. Wife queried why they wanted to charge me more as I live here. They asked for ID and happily accepted my Thai DL. But the difference was only 50 baht.

It's interesting but the markets and restaurants are pricier, just like you would find in any similar place in any country, Having said that the Pizza place. MK etc are the same prices as any of their outlets. Eat in a nice restaurant with sliver service by the river and it's more expensive - how surprising!

I have been there twice and I think this place is a very nice for chillin' but it is not somewhere that I will keep going.

YES, I sure I can find some other restaurants in Bangkok that are cheaper but with this good location with silver service THEN I think Asiatique is not bad.

If you got chance to visit Bangkok, you should visit here once.

  5. Many people would try to sell on the contract before the unit is completed. This may be quite easy if the selling price from the developer has increased compared to the price you contracted to buy at. It also has the advantage of avoiding transfer tax, though the developed may make a charge for the paperwork.

At worst you should be able to claw back some of the 350K you have already spent. At best you might even make a profit.

Lots of my friends told me to do like what you have mentioned too. now I also looking for a condo that could be sold out easily

    Cheers

  6. According to my experience, I have lived in condo sukhumvit101/1 so I could mention Sukhumvit (Udomsuk or Punnawitee area)

    - walk to good reasonable priced restaurants/streetfood <<yes>>

    - mall close/nearby with banks/western food <<yes, this area is very near Central Bangna, Paradise Park, Seaconsquare>>

    - supermarket close, foodland, bigc etc <<yes, there is Tops supermarket, villa market, bigC>>

    - relatively central, or easy access to a good highway connection << yes, it very near highway(sukhumvit62)>>

    - bts/mrt would be even better. <<yes, BTS Udonsuk station>>

    - not to many foreigners and not the only one smile.png << Nowadays, everywhere in Bangkok also can find foreigners and I dont think there is much foreigner in this area>>

  7. "Best" is dependent upon your perspective and needs. Just before the holidays, TVers post dozens of requests reading similar to, "Name me the best value for a Sunday roast and Christmas dinner." Of course "best value" means "the cheapest".

I disagree. When I comment on "best value" I mean "for the price". A 1000B meal can be just as good value as a 40B bowl of noodle soup, and I like both of them when they are done properly. Equally a 1000B meal can be inedible, and a 40B bowl of soup can be little more than water and salt. Those ones are the ones to avoid.

It's the same with condos. You can find a good value 20MB place and a good value 2MB place, though they probably wont be very similar to each other.

    So do I.

What I mean best condo also depends on its price and condo's quality. Doesn't mean only high price condo will be the best condo. It might be some cheap condo Bangkok but full with convenience.

  8. I thought it was the "Law" in Bangkok that you couldn't rent your condo out for less than 30 days (certainly there are signs around the Trendy Condos on Soi 13 that imply it is so I had to book one for 30 days even though I only wanted to stay 28, though as it turned out I had to leave after 10).

It's the law everywhere in Thailand, but rarely applied.

    Hello

I have an condo at Urbano, and yes they not like to have daily/weekly rentals. It's already less than a few months before. But this is good. As I told in another thread this condo management takes care about condo owners who tries to rent out on less than 1 month.

I love Urbano, because of the beautifull swimming pool on the 40th floor. And the view is great from there.

But agree with the "Try before you Buy" approach of booking somewhere on AirBnB before committing long term.

yah " It's the law everywhere in Thailand, but rarely applied. " agree

I just found on Airbnb Urbano condo for weekly rent but now already know it is illegal.

  9. We used Air Asia and were happy with them.

You can get tickets for 4,000 - 5,000 Baht (one way).

You really didn't provide enough information to get an accurate response. You are flying from BKK to Tokyo? Bringing bags? Try searching on Skyscanner.com and narrow down from there.

The poster above recommended Air Asia, but I would not unless it is extremely cheap. And I have also found that the cheap tickets are often not convenient for travel (coming back late at night for example) Once you add bags into the cost it is sometimes the same price or more.

I just did a search and it was 400 on Air Asia, and 462 on Cathay Pacific which is a really nice airline.

    Thank you for both reply

I found aisasia need to transit at Malaysia first so not that convenience may be I can find a better one.

I want to go to tokyo and osaka so both airport are fine to me and yes I need to bring luggage. I can't find cheap flight at Cathay Pacific.

  10. 'The River' condos are small and overpriced and the Common Fee/ Community Charge is high I believe. All Raimon Land Condo developments have high Common Fees/ Monthly Maintenance Fees. Further it will be under Water in 10 years !

Small? Many sizes available. My condo is 130m2. Common fee 70 thb/m2/month. This is high but the expenses to run the 5 swimming pools, lights, boat etc are high. Overprised maybe yes, depends how you look at it. As investment not the best choice but to live in is excellent. Fastest elevators in BKK, sound proof condo, double glass etc...very safe excellent security, enough parking space. Under water in 10 years? Maybe in 100 yes. There are a lot of issues whith the juristic drpartment but I have no idea if this is more or less compared with other condo's in Bangkok.

I agree. Just checked out The River is very nice and complete with all facilities. There is a community mall too. I kinda like this condo but over my budget and just like what you have mentioned it is good to long term stay but not for invest.

  11. Thai social norms dictate that strangers are treated very nicely. Westerners interpret a unfounded genuineness to this that actually isn't there, but the delusion can be maintained for long enough to enjoy a holiday.

    You're totally wrong, Bud.

How do you genuinely like a stranger?

The fact that Thai people are friendly and treat visitors well is indeed an attractive feature of the country. At least to everyone but needy folk who want strangers to love them for who they are.

That's how I've found it as well.

Living among Thais and raising children makes all the difference.

Family means everything here. Your position in the family defines who you are.

Yes agree living among Thais are difference. many of my colleagues also treat their family like everything, They are really really respect to those elders in family,

  12. I don' know if it is the best but THE RIVER is a good location, they also have service apartments.

I've stayed for a couple months at the River. And also lived at Urbano Absolute for months which is also good. In both cases I have stayed for less than 30K for one bedroom for one month.

The River is very good. It has it's own boat to take you across the river.

Urbano is very close to BTS.

OP, one idea is to look at AirBnB. This will give you an idea of costs for rentals. And in fact you might want to "try before you buy" and rent somewhere via AirBnB before you move there.

As far as your other objectives. I don't think there is much of an expat community over here in Thon Buri (The River/Urbano). I think other neighborhoods would have to be better.

Finally, both the River and Urbano are getting very nervous about daily/weekly rentals. They do not want short termers. You do NOT sound like a short termer. Just saying if you are, you might be limited.

Urbano absolute condo is one of my choices too. my Thai friend live there and she said its has a lot of foreigners stay but now I am trying to compare which condo in bangkok will suit me best.

  13. Crazy prices.

I live in an High Rise on the 25th floor in a 85m², 2 bedroom, European style appartment with a fully equipted European Kitchen, large balcony with a view, and a swimming pool and 2 tenniscourts. I pay 13.495 Baht per month , incuding water, maintenance en security. And that in an almost 99.99 Thai middle class enviroment. 40 minutes for Downtown by car.

    .

Forty minutes by car around which time of the day or night? Chonburi is also 40 mins by car to downtown Bangkok, after midnight.

Are there any Bts station or Mrt around Changwattana area ? If need to go by car isn't jam? Bangkok road is very horrible .

  14. I recently happened to visit Phrakanong for a few days…struck me as a very cool place with its own bts station….no tourists…slightly laid back local vibe….15 min tops to Asok BTS….i am guessing 30k would go a long way there.

You're right. Lot's of good value condos in that range and below in Phra Khanong or as we now call it, mid-town Bangkok...

I'm looking at one condo in Phra khanong too, name WYNE sukhumvit and the budget is in my range too. Anyone live around there or got some any more suggestion?

  15. Anyone here living in Condo Bangkok? Can you suggest me which one is the best in your opinion OR anyone who willing to rent out your condo also can privately send me message.

I am looking for 1 bedroom and condo is near BTS line. If got an expat's community around that would be great.

I am actually looking for those good reputation condo brand, strong infrastructure with a good facilities and good security.

I know some real estate brand like AP, SANSIRI, LAND AND HOUSE

But I don't know it's detail and reputation

    thanks for sharing

  16. As many people suggested the mazda2, I also like this car. The design is quiet nice and modern. not many of small car are using diesel. But one thing that I not sure is when I want to sell it will the price drop a lot?. My Thai friend suggested me to buy Honda jazz because when sell out can get higher price. Isn't it?
