the Thai government’s trade and economic development policies over the last ten years
Remind me who was primarily in office during that time? Wasn't that party/person/entity taking over for the good of the Thai people? (Sarcasm) o like he scammed some millions of people, yet no military to chase him out of office.

For a country that relies and cares so much about tourism, marijuana opens up a lot more of it, way more than taking a small tax of alcohol. Taking 300 baht off alcohol or allow alcohol sales in the middle of the day is not going to change really anyone's mind about where they travel, but open up a whole new industry in a region of the world where these things can come to the death penalty, and you'll get a whole lot of new tourists.
We have yet to see mass casualties, road conditions go any worse, mass chaos throughout the country. You just need better regulation. It not need be an all or nothing enterprise.
Then again, this is Thailand. When we westerners attach our mindset with those of the Thai people, we get lost in the whole system.

Talk about brazen self interest. This MFP guy is a producer himself so it may affect his personal business. Nothing to do with the general public.
And how does this matter of he is right? In fact, for this reason, he is better off to talk about this than others who don't have the experience.

The new rule has faced opposition from Taopiphop Limjittrakorn, a Move Forward Party MP for Bangkok, who champions the liberalisation of rules on alcohol production. He argues that the regulation will not only fail to deter drinking but will also increase production costs for small-scale alcohol producers.
It often seems that Move Forward is the main party in government who uses logic.

I'm a bit surprised an anonymous website gets such coverage.
Who is behind the "Thai Enquirer" ?
Are there any other articles on the internet written in perfect English by "Wanchai Vatanakool" ?
You're right. I had to go back and read the article. The author articulates their thoughts very well, better than most Thais. Better than many westerners too. Interesting to think about

I wouldn't be surprised if they dug further and found out Trump had his hand in the scandal.....
Or Hilary, which could be why Obama never went after it, even though Russian interference broke while he was in office.
Very easy to write or think about something based on our own confirmation biases. Hard to do the other way around.

seems thaksin and his merry men can make / have / will up their own rules as well - so please explain the difference.
Rewrote the constitution to their own liking, including the 250 senators.
He had to leave the country for 15 years. Do don't ever remember these coup leaders or any of them having to leave their home country or risk going to jail for some trumped up charges that the military never has to stand for themselves.
I think, other than that, yes these situations ae both about people with a lot of power and money being able to make their own rules.

I wonder if the government ever thinks that people want to see more than just temples. The temples are fun, but after you've been to a few, you've been to them all. Outside of that, the TAT needs to look at other attractions. For instance, cleaning up all the litter at the national parks - they charge us foreigners enough to make up for it. And STOP taking the fun out of Thailand. Work on updating your museums and creating more. Bring back the street food. I really don't like how this has disappeared. It added to the fun of Thailand
I love Thailand, but as for places to go and things to see in SEA, Singapore is at the top of my list. Very clean, a good variety of food, but most importantly a lot of things to do and museums that are kept up with or at least created well.

Ah, the white man's burden!
Your extraordinary, almost (perhaps it actually is) obsessive hatred of the man, and delight at his being overthrown by the right wing military is well known and exhaustively documented; together with your complete contempt for the Thai electorate. Although for some time now it has verged on the entertaining - you have become to critical observation of the Thai political scene what Benny Hill was to cerebral comedy!
Perhaps it is time again to point out once again, he was repeatedly elected in consecutive elections, and overthrown by the military when it looked like he was about to score another resounding victory. The same happened to his protege, his sister.
He went into exile because his enemies, then ascendant, would have killed him. He, and his sister were subsequent to their disposal, tried and sentenced in courts which had more than a whiff of a political taint. He remained popular within Thailand, there was never any doubt that if allowed to stand he would run again. The rest of the grown up world recognised Junta justice when they saw it. That is why he was free to roam the world for so many years, untouched by any sanctions, unworried at any attempts to return him to Thailand.
The current Thai political construct, although in so many ways a discredited fudge, recognises that, and makes it inevitable he will be pardoned and released. His sister is likely to return as well. The Thai population regard this as inevitable, and rather seem, if they are concerned at all, to approve.
I await with bated breath your "neo-orgasmic reaction" to these events - Benny Hill, prepare for your grand finale!
I like your analysis. It is different from the western point of view - very refreshing. The viewpoint can help to make sense of a system we westerners know little about, but we judge based on the western system.

In Canada, prisoners who need medical operations and attention, also do not pay for it. How is this a news story?
Think about it.
If Tradeau were in the same position as Thaksin, the newspapers would be all over it, as they should. The same holds true for any country. It's about people with money and power "abusing" using the system.

It's not the sugar per se, it's the sedentary lifestyle and the abundance; sugar just exacerbates the problem. Lots of sugar around when I was kid, it rotted our teeth, but I and my peers were pretty skinny.
Plus the crazy working hours. Who has time to exercise after working 60+ hours a week?

Singha and Chang both taste horrible, I've come to the conclusion that Thai's drink to get drunk, not because they like the taste of beer.
On top of that, I do not understand how Thai people love ice with their beer which further takes away from the beers flavor

I don't understand this article. If someone could explain?
I'm planning my 2 months trip to Thailand from December to February.
Everything is already fully booked.
My Pattaya hotel told me they are fully booked for December 10th when I arrive, until April. How to find an hotel? Will I be stranded in the street with all the hotels booked??
My car rental guy said they are booked until April too at 99% and they are not sure they can provide me with a rental car.
His partner told me there are so many Foreigners right now.
When I lived in Thailand from 2014 to 2018, I could just walk into my favorite hotels and get a room in 3 minutes.
Ask for a car some morning and get the rental car 3 hours later the afternoon.
Has it changed so much since 2018???!
It seems it's full of Foreigners.
So why this article seems to indicate the opposite?
Or I didn't understand something I'm sure.
If someone could explain...
Thanks ????
Alex LM
I just returned from Thailand and while I can't speak to Pattaya or going during busy season, I can share my experience. I was in Bangkok, Samet, and Sukhothai. Also, I've been to thailand 11x over the past 9 years. I do not see you having any problem booking any hotel or rental car. I was easily able to get all I needed wherever and whenever I went. I think the rental car and hotel places are just trying to scare you into buying something upfront, something that will cost you more now than later.

the tourism industry is yet to see a significant economic boost, largely due to global economic jitters and high household debt levels.
I'm a bit confused as to how these 2 ideas are connected. If things are done, where is the economic boost coming from?

I personally am very happy Thai people told me the truth about my weight 10 years ago. Shortly afterwards, I went to exercise, eating healthy, and getting to a healthy weight. I am very thankful for my lifestyle change. Fat shamming works

I seriously doubt this is what keeps millions of tourists away. Usually there are multiple reasons. The world doesn't work in a single system

Thank you for the information. I had no clue, but looked it up. Heavy metals are in a lot of our foods, coming from numerous sources, not necessarily related to specific pesticides of a specific country either

Is it "A wave of concern" or is it "outrage". I would say it's neither and probably a click bait headline. It's Pattaya and while I have never been there I would expect nothing less if I went and didn't find such a venue in a place like this.
If you want outrage go to a Western pride event where you will find all sorts of deviance done by adults in front of children or the fact the US is largest human trafficking country in the world facilitated by its own government.
I thought this is a venue to talk about Thailand, and in particular to this article: a specific event in Pattaya. There are plenty of other forums to share your views about other countries.
Moderators, can we please keep things about Thailand?

Good for Move Forward. I think they made the right decision for themselves, the Thai people and the Thai state. Even if things did not go as they want, it seems they will continue to fight for what they believe is right and as many Thais think - fight for a better future for the state and the nation. If I were Thai, I would be happy to have them working for me in the political arena

Agreed. I find them better than most any other drug people talk about for depression. You only need a small amount and the anti-depressant effects last a while
