  1. Probably a stab in the dark here, but I would love to watch this match. The main problem is that most bars in CM close at midnight but kick-off is at 2 a.m. My shitty mobile internet is not good enough to stream it. Are there any bars that might stay open? If they can't be disclosed publicly, a PM would be much appreciated. Tad frustrating coming back from a 24-hour city like Saigon to a city in which you struggle to watch late football at a bar. Thanks.

Suan Prung Hospital would be a good place to start.

Based on my experience, they don't give Xanax there. I need benzodiazepines for severe anxiety and I went to Suan Prung last August requesting some Xanax. I was told it is no longer available in Thailand (not sure how true that is). The doctor offered me 90 pills of 2mg clonazepam instead.

  3. Excuse my ignorance, but is BeInSports likely to be available on normal Thai tv for the quarter finals? I know sometimes PPTV 36 screen games that are on BeinSports but I can't see anything for tonight.

  4. Currently in CM with a two-month-old child. This air pollution is really worrying me. We are keeping her indoors with locked windows but I know that's not enough. Does anyone know where I can quickly find an air purifier or some 3M filtrete in CM? I searched Homepro, SIAM TV, and the 3M store but no stock in any of them.

There appears to be purifiers available online from Lazada but never ordered from them and no idea how long they take to deliver. With how bad the air is now, I'd like to sort something out within the next 48 hours.

  5. Does anyone know if it's possible to watch the match on tv in Thailand tonight? My old apartment had a Vietnamese station called K+ PM which seemed to show CL matches.

Now, though, my new apartment doesn't have that channel. Instead, I have a PSI Sat box with a fairly limited range of stations. If it was possible to tune K+ PM into PSI Sat boxesI'd do that but I've looked around online and I don't think it's possible to get that station.

Can I stream the match on goal.com? My internet download speed is pretty poor; it's like 10mb/s.

  6. Not sure if it's against the rules to post links to personal blogs on here, but I like to write about Thai food in my spare time. Especially dishes that go beyond the standard Tom Yum Goong and Pad Thai that most people sample on their travels here. Yam naem is one of my favourite Thai salads - here is my article on it, would like to know your thoughts http://www.ronanmahony.com/yam-naem-an-incredibly-addictive-fermented-pork-salad/

I don't intend this to be self-promotional by the way. My blog isn't selling anything. If it's inappropriate to link to it, my bad.

  7. I went to a bar in Nimmaheim , Charles sheep, I think the bar was called and I ordered a bucket of ice for 20 Baht , when my order arrived , I emptied out the ice and neatly re stacked the ice in the bucket , filling in all the air gaps , when the task was completed , I noticed that the ice bucket was only 3/4's full , so I said that I was only going to pay 15 Baht for it , no one rips me off because Im not Thai

Seriously? Wow. If ever a paragraph summed up everything that's wrong with the overtly cynical dimwits that frequent Thai visa forums, this is it. Instead of enjoying your night out,you stressed over whether your ice bucket was 100% full or 75% full. All in the name of saving a grand total of 5 baht. Thailand really does attract the absolute dregs of society.

Dude.. Check the sarcasm antenna.. Seems its a bit off..

Sarcasm doesn't really translate that well to the written form, especially when the only actual clue of sarcasm was in the name of the bar that the poster mentioned. It's actually more of a damning indictment of expats in Thailand that I genuinely thought there was a guy over here moaning about how full his ice bucket was. It honestly wouldn't surprise me.

  8. I guess the "Charles sheep bar" bit went straight over your head

Yep! Paid more attention to the whole checking the ice bucket segment. Kind of stood out. My point still stands even if it's not applicable to the original person I replied to. Thailand seems to attract a host of the stingiest people on the planet. It's embarrassing seeing people argue over the price of a beer in town sometimes.

  9. He was clearly poking fun of these people talking about how much the beer promotions are in the various bars and coming here to moan when some place tell them there isn’t any promotion.

If it wasn’t for this thread, I would have no idea what a beer actually cost in Thailand, not because I haven’t ordered any, just because it makes absolutely no difference to how much fun I am having.

That wasn't clear at all to me. Sarcasm is hard enough to detect on the internet, his post didn't seem to contain any traces of it. If he was joking,I apologize. If he wasn't - my comment still stands.

  10. I am not sure a paid for ticket is needed reading the following from this webpage. http://www.inis.gov.ie/en/INIS/Pages/Visit%20Tourist

To me a booking means a reservation, I suggest you contact them to confirm what is needed.

    Accommodation and travel details

Details of your accommodation and travel details, for example:

    • hotel/guesthouse/hostel booking confirmation (may be by email)
    • travel booking confirmation (may be by e-mail),
    • travel agent confirmation (may be by e-mail),
    • accommodation details with a supporting letter from the occupant confirming that you are able to stay with them.

A planned itinerary, if you have one, which may include:

    • bookings or tickets for any excursions or trips,
    • email conversations about any excursions or trips,
    • travel agent bookings.

Yes, a reservation is what I am looking for. It is not easy to make a flight reservation without paying for it - most airlines require payment up front. And for those that don't, they will usually only offer reservations on refundable tickets, which are a lot more expensive. I've heard travel agents in Thailand can make 'dummy' flight reservations for people who need to show them for visa purposes.

  11. ???

She wants a visa to Ireland and needs some return flight booking to show.

To the OP: is it definitely req. to have a booking before having the visa?

Seems for UK it is not required?

    http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/713448-return-flight-reservation-required-as-supporting-document-for-uk-visit-visa-application/

Thanks for your reply. yeah for Ireland it's outlined by immigration that proof of return flights is needed. I've read on the net that you can walk into a travel agent in Thailand and they will make a booking for 300THB, but I don't know how true it is.

  13. I'm going to attempt the rather daunting task of applying for a visa to Ireland for my Thai girlfriend soon. Instead of being lazy and forking out a crapload of money to pay a company to apply for the visa, I'll be doing it all myself. The first problem I'm seeing is this stipulation that the immigration department in my country wants to see a flight itinerary. I'm asking if it is possible to go into a travel agent in Chiang Mai and ask them to make a reservation for my girlfriend between Bangkok and Dublin? I don't particularly want to fork out loads of money on a refundable flight. Ideally, I'll make a dummy reservation with a travel agent and then buy a cheap return ticket with the same dates closer to the time of her visit. Is the feasible?

  14. Although Thai Lion has not had any incidents, the parent Lion Air in Indonesia has one of the worst safety records in the world.

    http://www.jacdec.de/airline-safety-ranking-2015/

I tell my family and friends to stay away from them as well as Orient Thai/1-2-Go.

What a delightful thing to read considering I have a flight with them to Bangkok this Saturday evening. Although I've used them twice before - both flights were comfortable and on-time. At 800THB (same price as a ten hour bus), can't really go wrong. (I hope)

  15. It's very easy to find cheap flights from my home city (Dublin) to Bangkok, but not the other way around. In November 2015,I paid 300 euro for a Finnair flight to Bangkok with a 2 hour layover in Helsinki. both flights were extremely comfortable. Going back with the same airline, I've had to fork out 500 quid, which is quite pricey. I don't know if I booked too late, or the departure taxes from BKK are extortionate.

  16. Songkran is great fun. I am quite an introverted guy and generally don't enjoy mingling with huge groups of people, but I make an exception for Songkran. This is the second year running that I have been lucky enough to be in CM at this time of year. It is a very fun experience. Tuesday was spent on Loi Kroh drinking beer and partying. Yesterday I went to Doi Kham, watched a parade at Tha Phae and then partied very hard on Loi Kroh. The crowds on that road are always huge for Songkran and I enjoy the drunken fun. Today I'm staying in the apartment to recharge my batteries before one more day of madness tomorrow. Haven't gone out partying at night but was considering Zoe as it attracts my age group (twenties). Maybe tomorrow after Loi Kroh if I have the energy.

  17. Feeling a bit homesick today in particular as an Irish guy. Moved to CM a month ago and apart from the odd passing conversation with other foreigners at bars, I've not had much social contact over here. I'm living with my girlfriend and keeping busy with other things so I haven't had a lot of time for making new friends. That brings me to the point of this thread. Is there any decent Paddy's day celebrations on in Chiang Mai tonight? Preferably with friendly people and discounted Guinness would be a nice bonus. Thanks.

  18. I'm from Ireland and I have zero interest in subjects like U.S politics or Syria. I find the news to be generally depressing as <deleted>, so I stay away from it as much as possible and have no opinion about any of it. I prefer to talk about topics that I am passionate about such as food, travel and football. I've never had a problem having a decent conversation with a Thai person on these subjects either because the majority of people I have met here are interested by them. It might surprise American people, but the world doesn't centre around your country. In fact, a lot of us couldn't give a flying <deleted> about America or world politics. I find that Thai people are passionate about the every day pleasures in life - good food, participation in sports, motorbikes, and money. Stuff like that.
