  1. It's a known fact that Thai nationals with dual citizenship / passports should always enter Thailand and depart Thailand on a Thai passport to avoid the hassle you have stated above.

It takes about 3 to 5 days to obtain a Thai passport in Thailand so I fail to see why he doesn't currently have one.

What advice are you actually seeking ?

I believe, from recent experience it's currently 5-7 days for a Thai passport.

Took my kid this week to apply for one, with her being so young she was fast tracked through the cue and the whole process took less than hour.. I was pleasantly surprised!

  2. Just recently lodged an application for an Australian Partner Visa, which requires the applicant to apply for a police clearance..

From reading this web page http://thailand.embassy.gov.au/bkok/DIAC_Character_Requirements.html it seems it has to be done at RTP headquarters in Bangkok?

My partner is under the impression it can be done at any police station?

Can anyone clarify this or tell me of their previous experiences?

    Thanks in advance.

  3. Has anyone else lodge an application where their partner has not been able to provide a copy of their birth certificate?

On the application it states if unable to provide a certified copy of the applicants birth certificate you must provide a stat dec detailing their date and place of birth and full names of their parents.

I am wonder what is the procedure for a Thai person to fill out a stat dec? Is it needed to be done at the Australian Embassy? Is she able to do it locally here where we live?

Thanks to anyone that provide me with some help on this matter.

  4. Just thought I'd give an update on my situation.

After being informed here by @ubonjoe that I'd be entitled to a 60 day extension due to me having a child in Thailand I travelled to my local immigration office two days before my visa was due to expire. I was given the forms to fill out and told I needed to get two passport photos.

Once I had the forms completed I returned to the immigration office, this time made it to the lady at the family extension desk, who didn't have the best customer service skills I have ever seen, and was quickly sent away because I didn't have my partner and kid with me. First thing the next morning I returned with my partner and one month old daughter, waited nearly one hour to be served, then the same lady told me I couldn't get the extension because i didn't have the address of the lady we rent our condo from or a copy of her I.D.. She then advised me to get a 30 day extension instead, which at the time had 40+ people waiting to to be served... After waiting over an hour and trying 3 times to get an extension which I was entitled to and being denied and asked to wait how ever many hours more to get a 30 day extension made me very upset to say the least.

However I did end up paying the money and getting a 30 day extension. During these 30 days I got the other paper they asked for returned to immigration close to my expiry date, now only expecting a 30 day extension and to my surprise got 60 more days.

So even though my first experience was very frustrating it was a blessing in disguise really!

  5. I was think about obtaining a second one when this one expires. As ideally I'd like to return to Australia and start working again but don't want be separated from my partner and two month old daughter.

I thought if I lodge the application this week, I'm allowed to stay in Thailand until March the 8th, then we plan on travelling to Australia for 3 months. Effectively using up 4.5 months of processing time.

Instead of me having to come and live in Thailand again, I'd like to again try for a tourist visa in June.

  6. When an Australia visa is granted it automatically cancels any other visa that is in effect. If your partner visa is granted early and then your tourist visa is granted immediately thereafter, or if the applicant was in Australia on a tourist visa at the time the partner visa was granted early, then it is possible that your partner visa could be cancelled by the tourist visa, which would be a heartbreaking state of affairs.

Make sure you tell the case officer or partner visa processing centre that is handling your partner visa application that you want to apply for a tourist visa and let them know your proposed travel dates. Only apply for the tourist visa when you have the go ahead from them.

    I don't think that's entirely correct.

For a start, the spouse visa can't be issued whilst the applicant is onshore, regardless of any visa they're on

Also, a tourist visa wouldn't be issued if the person had a spouse visa.

It is a good idea as you suggested to keep your case office informed of any travel movements though.

rws85, why don't you apply for a toursit visa before you lodge the spouse application?

If your wife happens to get a visa without 8503 (no further stay) condition, you can the

apply for the spouse visa whilst in Australia.

That was the plan, unfortunately the only gave her 3 months single entry with no further stay. So before we travel to Australia we will have to lodge an application for her Partner visa.
  7. I got an Australian lawyer that I know in Thailand to sign one my 888 forms, I also had someone in Australia fill one out for me get it signed and certified and then scan an email it to me. I also plan on getting a few more people from Aus to do the same and also have one more Australian here in Thailand to fill one out for me, but also am not 100% sure who can witness and certify.

  8. I am wondering if anyone has had any luck in applying for an Tourist Visa to Australia while they are waiting for their Partner Visa to be processed?

I am currently in the process of getting ready to apply for a partner visa for my partner, which I assume is going to take 12 months to process and don't fancy having to spend another 12 months stuck in Thailand waiting to return home with my family.

  9. Just received conformation of a valid application from the Embassy today. Is this normal after reading so many post here I was not expecting any thing for a while

Just acknowledging receipt of application, Oz Border Control website indicates anticipated processing times for partner visa applications.

    https://www.border.gov.au/about/access-accountability/service-standards/family-visa-processing-times

So I take it Thai partners would be seen as high risk and likely be 12months waiting time?
  10. I am looking at applying for a partner visa and trying to decide if I should apply online using ImmiAccount or go into VFS to apply.

I am wondering how you go about attaching documents to the online account? Do I need to go to the embassy to get a certified copy of my passport/my babies birth certificate etc..

As I am staying in Pattaya if I have to go to the embassy in Bangkok, I think it would be just as easy to go apply in person at VFS?
