    Hi,

opportunity to buy a Chevrolet captiva from 2011 with 68km on it. It is cheap and currently we have been renting for nearly 2 years. With at least another year here, maybe 2 then I am thinking this might be worth it instead of renting.

a few years back someone said to me they wouldn’t touch Chevrolets….think it was the time they pulled out of Thailand.

thoughts? Like can you get parts to fix etc here? Thoughts on the car etc?

thanks, we are not car people. We use a car to drive to and from work with the kids everyday. Use it for trips to the beach and travel inside Thailand. Currently renting an mg zs.

Ford has a 10 year contract to support Chevrolets.  Parts are readily available, see https://www.gpautoparts.co.th/en/products-service-2/after-market-2/ac-delco-products-2/.  After reading other comments I have to add a little.  Toyota is the top selling brand with good record of their maintenance services.  Honda a close second.  In my time here I have purchased four 4 door Colorado pick ups.  Very happy with all of them.

  2. I have an Android box that has worked perfectly for months.  No buffering.  Service is NT (old TOT).  But, I was getting an upgrade to the box yesterday (I had not watched TV in several days) and was told to expect possible major buffering because a major communications cable had been severed and will be sometime before repairs are completed.  For the first time last night I did have severe buffering.  Maybe every 30 seconds it would be buffering 10-15 seconds.  Hope whatever the problem is that it will be fixed soon.

A new reality is dawning for expats in Thailand.

A significant overhaul of the Thai tax system, effective January 1st, 2024, has thrown a curveball at the expat community, raising concerns and prompting a scramble for solutions.

This article delves into the intricacies of this new tax tango, offering a roadmap for expats to navigate the complexities and unlock potential strategies to secure their financial future in the Land of Smiles.

Previously a haven for foreign income, Thailand’s tax code offered a sweet deal to expats:

Foreign earnings stashed abroad remained blissfully untaxed. However, the new year has ushered in a paradigm shift. Now, all foreign earned income brought into Thailand by tax residents, including expats, is subject to personal income tax. This marks a significant departure from the past, leaving many expats wondering how to navigate this uncharted territory.

Understanding the Old and the New:

To grasp the full impact of the changes, let’s rewind to the pre 2024 era. Expats enjoyed the freedom of keeping their foreign income untaxed as long as it remained outside Thailand. Income earned and brought into the country within the same year was subject to tax, but passive income like pensions and investments from abroad existed in a grey area, with no clear guidelines.

Fast forward to 2024, and the landscape has transformed. The new law dictates that all foreign earned income remitted to Thailand by tax residents is subject to personal income tax.

The answer to my question is probably "No" but I figured it's worth a shot to ask you guys anyways: would you know if a official Honda (car) dealer would accept Mastercard/Visa as payment? Foreign card.

    Bless

The question first should be whether your credit card company would permit it.  And, remember that a 3% or greater charge is often added here to purchase many things using a credit card.  Finally, does your credit card charge a foreign transaction fee, typically 3%?  I have 2 cards that do and 1 that does not.

  5. Personally, I hate being videoed or photographed without my permission.  There are several possible reasons one could feel this way.  A person could be under threat of bodily harm if his/her location were revealed.  Another happened to a friend of mine years ago.  He was photographed at NANA Plaza in Bangkok and years later his photo was published in a popular women's magazine along with an article about prostitution in Thailand.

What tax on foreign income? Never heard of it.

Oh wait, is this like the other hundred new tax threads with no facts so will be soon be sent to the finance forum where the tax nerds can endlessly debate the no facts part?

Never heard of it?  What planet have you been living on.  Have you had your head buried in the sand?  Major topic for many weeks. Starts i Jan2024.

Thank you for your reply, but my question has nothing to do about extension.

If my entry to Thailand is 01 Jan 23, then my first 90 day report is 01 Apr 23.  If I do my report a week early on 27Mar23.  My question is the 2nd 90 day report 90 days after 27Mar or 90 days after 01 Apr?

29 days in February in 2024.  The 90 days is counted starting on the day you do the report, not the day after.  And, the form you will receive says when to report again.  Always better to be 2-3 days early.  In your example, your 1st 90 day report would be due 30 March,

  8. I have a friend in the USA that was in Thailand during Vietnam in the mid 70,s.  He did not practice safe sex.  In 2010 his wife came up with venereal warts.  Having both been faithful throughout their marriage they could not understand how this could happen.  Both went to see a doctor and it was explained that venereal warts and possibly some other STD's can remain latent for years and just appear for no apparent reason.  Marriage survived.

    Hello

We go to Queen Sirikit Hospital regularly, cardio center and emergencies (heart issues also).. cheapest good level hospital around Pattaya..

Meds are less expensive than in any farmacy (even the big chain one which gives through a card, discount)

If heart issues Dr Sarawut is excellent (he also consults sometimes in Memorial)..queue is long in cardio center in Sirikit unless you go to cardiac clinic opened on Fridays mornings (type of VIP service)..still very cheap.. Dr Sarawut consults there Fridays from 6.30 morning..Have to take appointment..

Emergency service is also very good..Again, used only for cardiac issues, don't know other departments but years ago a friend went there for leg issues (bike accident)..was very happy with service provided..

One point, very few English speakers..2 nurses and 1 emergency lady doctor totally fluent.. some doctors including Dr Sarawut also..but difficult to take appointment per phone if you don't speak Thai.

For billing you have to specify before payment you need bill in English, otherwise given in thai

    Hope this helps

    Have a good day

I never see such ads. You must have a search history which generates the ads to you.

You must not drive around Pattaya very much.  Advertising signs are quite common.

Hi all, I’m on a search to find some decent sausages, I’ve tried a lot of western food shops, a lot of them seem to buy from the same supplier and the skins used are thick, it’s like trying to chew through plastic! Anyone got a recommendation fir decent sausages without the plastic like skins, at the moment I’ve resorted to using frozen Richmond sausages, not great tasting but the skins are thin and you haven’t got to chew through them…any help much appreciated

MEAT STUFF in Pattaya.  Even have a Jimmy Dean taste alike.

    Here's a shop on the Darkside, that makes custom wooden furniture, I'm sure they can handle making a storage cabinet;

Why would you want steel clamps around the fire extinguisher?  The idea is to be able to get it in use as soon as possible, not to be fiddling around trying to open a clamp.

Like someone said, if I knew I was going to live this long I would have taken better care of my teeth. I have now lost almost all my molars so chewing food has become quite difficult, so I have two choices, dentures or implants. Implants can involve bone grafts and obviously greater expense, but the idea of dentures doesn't thrill me either, like how long does it take to adapt to them? Anyone else had to make this choice?

I am 83 and have had upper and lower partial plates for well over 15 years.  They were well made and properly fitted.  Never an issue getting used to them.  Eat anything I want without any problem.

If it is a private parking area any parking restrictions can be imposed or ignored by the owners, a Lotus's security guard, for example, couldn't issue a fine so I assume they'd have to sue the transgressor.

As far as parking in public disabled areas is concerned, Thailand does not have an official system to issue disabled parking permits (I stand to be corrected here so, presumably, you do not have one) so I'd guess that the whole "system" boils down to courtesy and if someone doesn't approve of other people's parking decisions that's just tough.  You have my sympathy.

I can walk short distances using a cane.  50 meters out of the question.  I once complained to Lotus management and was told there was nothing they could do about the MB taxis, Grab Food and other non handicaped vendors parking in marked Handicap spaces.  I live in a condo and they have a handicap ramp to the elevators but not a handicap parking anywhere on the condo property.  Complaints fall on dead ears.

My first choice would be Bangkok Christian Hospital on Silom. You might have to see a doctor first but not expensive.

But there are many small MRI/X-Ray clinics. I once had an MRI done in such a place but I can find the result to look on the envelope.

Also Mission Hospital on Phitsanulok Road in Bangkok.
