  1. There are flights between LHR and U Tapao (UTP?) in a couple of days.

The point I was making was how poor our wonderful goverment was in helping out there own people when they need them the most.

Its because the government can't find another Country to borrow the money from to pay for the airfares. Browns credit card has been withdrawn too much bad debt already

  2. Best news I have read this week.

I am due to fly out on the 13th for 4 weeks and starting to panick about staying in this freezing place over xmas.

Typical, i always fly Etihad(gold card guest holder) but this time i needed to stay for over 1 month duration although Etihad were cheaper for maximum 1 month stay they were more expensive for over 1 month so i booked with Qatar. Whilst being of a similiar standard to Etihad, their customer service leaves a lot to be desired, still waiting for a promised phone call to re-schedule my departure flight back to the UK even though i visted their Bkk office personally. They never offered any alternatives and even wanted to charge for changing the ticket departure date.......not impressed.

Whats occuring here? what was the "TYPICAL" flame for.

I dont have a gold card but I will have a business seat if plane gets off the ground, I just want to get away and relax somewhere hot or at least warm.

I am also extremely happy with the news from Etihad and am also sick of the freezing cold. It was -4 deg C when I walked home from the pub on Saturday morning. The week before that it snowed on the way home!!! 10 a.m. and the cars are still covered with ice !!!

Compare that to warm, sunny (not at 1 a.m. :D ), Thailand and I will be very glad to be on that plane from Manchester on Monday and back in the arms of my beloved as she and my friend drive to the airport to pick me up.

One drag is the time change from Abu Dhabi, but I can cope with that :D

OOPS!! Changed from Etihad to Qatar?? Now I do feel for you. Must be a bit like a PAD member changing to to a red shirt subscription after becoming a fully paid up member :o:D

At least with my Silver card (not quite up to your standard :burp: ) I get to lounge around at the airport guest lounge, get a shower to freshen up and some nosh down my neck. I'll need that with my travel itinary. Dep home 21-00 Sunday. Arrive home Thailand 48 hours later or so to a BIG kiss and cuddle and .....

    :D:wai::P :jerk: :burp:

Hope you are back in the arms of your beloved and enjoying a cool beer in the sun G54

  3. From the Emirates website

Affected passengers can choose to travel into or out of another airport that Emirates operates in the vicinity of Bangkok, such as Kuala Lumpur, Singapore or Hong Kong.

Re-booking or re-issue charges will be waived, and the fare paid to/from Bangkok will be honoured for travel to/from the alternative airports.

This re-routing is subject to seat availability and will be permitted until Emirates’ normal operations resume at Suvarnabhumi Airport.

Passengers to/from Bangkok who do not wish to re-route will be re-booked on the first available flight when the airport re-opens.

  5. Flights into SIN and KUL will rapidly fill up as airlines book their first and business class passengers onto alternate routings.

Hope your correct there as at least I have a buisness class seat booked with Etihad for Dec13th for a 4 week stay but I hope it is all cleared up as all my hotels and internal flights are booked but it wouldn't be no real hardship to do a bit of a swap there.

  6. Will be returning for my 3rd visit to Chaing Mai in December and I am looking forward to going there once again.

As you say its now a respectable place to visit, are you telling me it never used to be????

Right. :D In the nineties it used to be a Go-go bar. Then it morphed into a regular bar when the place next door became the go-go, then that morphed into a regular bar, then that was sold to the Naga boutique hotel behind it, and now there's just Cosy Corner again, but still as a regular respectable bar.

That concludes the history lesson. :o

Thanks for the history lesson, More's the pity I never got to see the shower shows there.

I just got to see the girls dancing there in traditional dress, I just never got to find out just how respectable they were or not shall we say.

  7. And here is another recommendation:

There's always some kind of change or remoddeling or name-changing going on at Cosy Corner, but the latest change works really well and it's now a very respectable bar to visit.

Especially the roof top is VERY nice. You have a view of the town, the cheapest drinks prices by tourist/expat bar standards and the food (yes) deserves special mention, specifically the Thai food. It's very well done, as good as any proper restaurant and prices are reasonable.

Ah thats my favourite bar in all of Thailand, I love sitting in Cosy Corner for an afternoon beer or can of coke with lunch or an evening beer or a few more with dinner. Always had good food there and the staff are always pleasant.

Edit - After doing a search of the forum on Cosy Corner I guess the place will be quite a bit different to how I remember it 2 years ago but still looking forward to the visit to see the place.

  8. I guess the question is what will you be doing when you return to Thailand.

It may be in your favour now to exchange Baht to GBP, but when you return to Thailand will you then be exchanging your savings of GBP back into Baht? if so you could be worse of then, if your changing money twice I dont think you could be onto a winner unless the exchange rate changes dramatically before your return.

  9. Hi.

I am about to book a return ticket in advance with a cheap local airline, and have noticed that it costs about the same to book a ticket out, and a ticket back, as it does to book a return flight. Two for the price of one :o

For longhaul flights, if you do not fly out the airline automatically cancels your return ticket (b*****s).

If this is the same for the local low cost flights, it makes more sense to book two tickets, and protect the return leg even if you miss the outbound flight.

Is this a no-brainer, or am I missing something?

    Cheers

    Dave

Only thing I can think of is if you would get charged for 2 seperate credit card transactions.

  10. Considering going to visit NY for a bit and the cheapest ticket I can find for October is on Etihad, with a stop in Abu Dhabi... does anyone know anything about this airline and whether they are good or not? Is it a hassle to change ticket dates with them if desired?

Etihad are an excellent airlne, no complaints there.

But on one point you asked concerning changing dates. I had the cheapest business class seat last year for £1300 uk - bkk and wanted to change the return date at the cost of £200 which I was prepared to pay, but as the cheapest seats had been sold for the return flight they wanted me to upgrade my ticket by £600 first and then pay the £200 surcharge.

  11. Can anyone expand on what Thai Air does to get you from one airport to the other? We'd be getting into BKK late at night and needing to fly out to Hat Yai first thing in the morning. Is the old Comfort inn/Best Western still open at Don Muang?

    Cheers,

    Paul

I'll also have the transfer between airports to do in January, but at least mine is in the afternoon and I have 5 or 6 hours to do it.
