Each to their own but I have never had what I call a good coffee at Starbucks. My tastes have adapted a locally grown and roasted coffee which I am really enjoying. 220Baht/500gms.

  2. I don't necessarily agree that there is an oversupply on the market. There seems to be more of an undermarketing problem. There are many places in the world that have never heard of a Longan (Lum Yai) and with proper marketing we could probably sell more than what we produce. It appears to me that we have just relied on the Chinese markets and not tried anywhere else. Instead of handing out money to the growers (and I am one) the money should be spent setting up a Marketing Board to help increase the worlds knowledge and demand for the fruit.

  3. I have built two buildings here, one on a concrete slab and the other up on piles. Both are timber framed (imported timber treated so termites won't touch it) construction with gibrok lining on walls and ceiling. I have had problems with the termites eating the cardboard on the framing side of the wall and also eating the plaster such that you just brush against the wall and it crumbles. This is only on the concrete slab. In 6 years there has been no sign of any problems with the building on piles.

  4. I recall that those that had encroached onto forest land with resorts had to remove the structures or alternatively pay for them to be removed. No mention of the occupier removing the structures here. Has she just walked off leaving it to someone else to sort out ???

  5. A few years back I had started building my house and purchased a hand basin from a building supply outlet. The shop had circled the item on a brochure and told me it was on 30% discount. Great. They gave the package to me and I took it straight round to the joiner who was making the bathroom unit. A week later I contact the joiner and was told that the unit was the wrong type - a pedestal type not a bench type. No problem, I took it back to be changed. Yes sir we will change but it will cost you another 3000Baht. Why? It is no longer on special. But the mistake was yours, not mine so you should stand by the price. No can do. Half an hour later I am now talking to the manager and point out that I have just started building the house and if he wants my continued custom he should stand by the price. No can do so I paid up and have never been back and have also talked another couple of potential customers out of dealing with them.  So much for customer service. It has cost them a lot more in profits and future custom than it would have to recognise their mistake.

  6. Last week I went into Chiang Mai Imm. to do my 90 day report and apply for another extension to my Marriage Visa. We were asked for the first time where our TM 30 was and in the last 4 years we had never heard of it. I pointed out that on both my 90 day report and Visa extension application I supply my name and address at our house here in Phrao and that I have never missed a 90 day report in that time so they know where I live. Also, as I recall it, my arrival card gives my address. However after a 1600Bhat fine we filled out the required TM30 and all the paperwork is now under way. They now have 4 different references to my address which must keep many people occupied. One point though that came out of all of this is that the TM 30 is only required each time we enter the country, not each time we return home after a few days away. All the same, from now on my wife will register us at hotels etc and we will keep my name out of it.

  7. We live 85Km from Chiang Mai immigration and when we applied for our Marriage Visa we had an interview with a very pleasant immigration officer and we took a well respected person from our nearest village, who had known us for some years, who spoke on our behalf. No need for a visit. All very pleasant and well done Thai Immigration for carrying out these checks. I was asking a country to let me stay here and, in effect, invading their privacy, so don't blame them for asking you a few questions. They should.!!!

  8. Can someone out there assist me with where to find the design data for the blue pressure water pipe design tables.

I am designing an irrigation system for the orchard and cannot find anywhere the tables for pressure/flow/friction/pipe size etc.

I would appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction thanks.

  9. I am thoroughly enjoying my life here in Thailand and stay here on a marriage visa which is due for renewal again with effect from the middle of February. My problem is that February is the best time of the year to visit my home country - New Zealand, so I wanted to renew my visa a month or two early so that in future the renewal date would be November or December. Chiang Mai Immigration has told me this is impossible. They tell me the only way to do this is to leave Thailand without a re entry permit and to come back on a 3 month visa from NZ and then go thru the whole application process again. Has anyone any helpful suggestions or experiences with this?
