Hi folks. I’ve recently moved to rural Udon and am looking for a bar in town to watch the footy GF next Saturday. Preferably full of Collingwood supporters. Thanks in advance.

Billions?
Could we have some examples of sale prices for former state owned public utilities please?
I know that South Australia came out of it with the highest electricity prices in the world.
http://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-06-28/sa-has-most-expensive-power-prices-in-the-world/8658434
In the case of NSW it was $16 Billion.

Regarding Australian electricity prices. The problem is selling the state run power to private. The only way is to buy it back and run it for the people. Agreed? I watch the news and see so much Cooky talk. Policy this policy that. Plan this plan that. Agreement this agreement that.
Peeing in the wind. Fun for a child but I can tell you one thing for sure.
GO SOLAR and do it yesterday.
State governments reaped billions on the sale of these entities despite underinvestment in poles and wires for decades.
The companies have had to make up for that lack of investment. They wouldn’t sell them back to governments if they weren’t going to recoup their investment. No state or federal government could afford to buy them back - nor should they.

EMBASSY APPOINTMENTS
As indicated earlier in this thread, you now must make an appointment online for passport and notarial services at the Australian Embassy in Bangkok. Walk in service are no longer available.
The link is: https://my.setmore.com/bookingpage/4d0e8f45-23ee-4b04-a10d-ab0149192866
Also, if you drive to the Embassy there is free parking available nearby. Drive past the Embassy and there’s a big construction site on the left. Across the road from this there’s a free car park.
I was there last week and was in and out in 15 minutes (+5 minutes walk to the car each way).

I use Pattaya International Dental Clinic on Soi Buakhao near Soi Honey. Their website has a list of prices so you can compare.

Having spent 20 years standing watches on the bridge of a navy warship I find it incredible that this happens so often.
It's reinforced to all bridge watchkeepers that they are to call the CO at any time of the day or night if they are in any doubt whatsoever regarding the ships position, navigation plan, safety, or for any other reason.
In my experience, junior officers were loath to call the CO in the middle of the night for fear of looking incompetent. They'd often just 'wing it' and hope for the best.
99.99% of the time they got away with it after a brief moment of panic or indecision.
I guess this was the 0.01%...

I bought a hook similar to this (with the extension) at the bike accessories shop on Pattaya Tai (right hand side heading towards Suk, corner of Soi Khopai)

After a week rental i am impressed with this bike
Rented the R version with the factory nitrogen rear shocks and did find the suspension very hard compared to other bikes
I am torn between what to buy
I wanted the abs model but the rental guy said the abs model is more troublesome than the others and substantially more expensive
The remote key doesn't always work how it should etc and they only give you 1 (no spare) and if you lose that it costs a crazy price for a new one, (also the stop start fuel saving thing doesn't always start when the lights go green, you can find loads of complaints about it on the Thai language forums)
Standard is well priced and you can upgrade the shocks yourself to whatever you prefer but the colours are a bit less premium looking than the other models
Any current users have any recommendations?
(I'll probably buy/order one tomorrow )
I've got the standard model in white/black. I love it. Just had my 1,000km service done and it runs like a dream. You won't be sorry. -
does thailand have anything akin to the weather channel? would really like to know what to look forward to besides having to see it on thai visa.

VPN unlimited seems promising and also Pc magazine give them a good score. Do you know if its compatible with Windows defender and/or Malwarebytes as I use both as Internet security?
Thanks.
Sorry. I don't know. I use it on both my Mac and iPhone. -
I use VPN Unlimited. Very good. Reasonable price. No hassle

Had mine 6 weeks now. It's fantastic! Very, very happy.

Thanks Joe. I think I'll change my current extension from Ed to Retirement (getting the letter from school etc). When I next return to Aus I'll apply for the Non O based on retirement.
Thanks again. -
I'm an Australian citizen currently staying in Thailand on a Non O (Ed) Visa. It's due to expire soon and I'm seeking options to remain.
I'm 50 years old and meet the income requirements.
Is it possible to convert Ed Visa to retirement visa? Will I need to leave the country (I'd rather not)?
If I need to leave, should I go to Vientiane and get a tourist visa and then remain here on 'extension of stay'? Or can I apply for a retirement visa in Vientiane?
Any current, accurate advice is welcome.

I think it comes down to a cost vs convenience factor. I happily paid the fare each way rather than taking buses or a long car journey.
-
Also, has anyone tested the 3 different versions? I would like to hear about the "upgraded suspension" especially....
Looking at the Owner's Manual all three of the models have the same load capacity of 158kg. From talking to the guy at the shop the 'upgraded suspension' simply makes it firmer, it doesn't increase the load capacity.- 1

I picked up my new white/black base model Yamaha Aerox yesterday. I'm well impressed.
I chose the Aerox over the PCX for a few reasons; I traded up from an old Yamaha Nouvo and prefer that seating, throttle and handlebar position (switch positions are identical on Nouvo/Aerox); it's a solid, good looking bike; big tyres; and cost.
I chose the Base model over the others for a few reasons too. I don't need ABS or wave discs at the blinding speeds I do around Pattaya. The extra tanks on the back suspension aren't required either.
The centre fuel access is fantastic as is the underseat storage. The down sides I can see are the 12V plug stowage is small and flimsy and there is no hook for a shopping bag. Neither are a big deal in my opinion.
As it's brand new I haven't given it a good squirt yet but the engine is very quiet and the ride smooth.
Very happy indeed.- 5
