For those of you slagging off the UK for whatever personal reasons you have,I moved back from Thailand 4 years ago, having lived in Thailand for 4 years,& life is good.
I'm not rich, but I think the big determining factor is I am mortgage & rent free.I brought my Thai wife & daughter here 2 1/2 years ago & they have been amazing.Daughter has thrived at school, wife has established a Thai Massage Therapy business paying her £3,500 a month.
I have woken up to blue skies,25 degrees, fresh air.Luckily I live in the chilled city of Norwich.30 coffee shops, huge selection of different foods. We have visited all the areas to show how beautiful the UK is eg Lake District,Dales,Peak District,Cotwolds,Cornwall etc.
At the present time I don't miss Thailand 1%.No mosquitoes,no armies of full-stop ants in the kitchen,no air pollution,no visas,no need to stay inside because too hot etc.
My point being:slag off the UK if you want,I'm sure you have your reasons. You won't find me slagging off Thailand despite its drawbacks as each to their own.But the reality check is anywhere can be the place to be,but it depends on personal circumstances & perspective.
