  1. The Ben Pub in the Ekachai Road area of Thonburi was busted for a whole range of offences

We presume none of the offences included trademark infringement... blink.png

If trademark infringement, wonder if Bentley would seek legal proceedings against the club
Well we will certainly find out, as I just emailed their CEO a copy of this article.

I am sure the CEO just called an emergency board meeting regarsing this travesty.

Expect a front page article in the Bangkok Post tomorrow!

  2. Hi

I really doubt anyone could "manipulate" the price of a stock, mainly if it is "one of the major banks" as the volume of exchange may be in the 500-1'000 Million Baht and so you would need to invest a huge quantity of money to have a significant effect on such stock price wink.png

Are you not mistaking the ATO/ATC with you "big seller" orders ?

Well market makers are in the business of manipulating markets.. they make the price go lower/higher based on their exposure and prognostications.

MMs help create an efficient market, since they profit from an inefficient market.

  3. Good to read that there are branches that know how to handle foreigners.

Your report shows that you even got internet access although the officially published rules sound like you would not get as a tourist.

    My experiences are quite old.

2009 Kaskorn, Pattaya, 30 day visa exempt, hotel addr, savings account with internet access, zero problems, 20 minutes.

    2011

Savings account at Bankok Bank upcountry, with Non O-A visa, wife with me (blue book), home address, zero problems.

Savings account at SCB. Same same.

For both accounts I installed internet banking DIY. It's described on the websites. No postal mail needed.

Regarding internet access, after everything was completed and i was out the door i asked about online bamking.. she took me to the ATM where i authenticated. There is a menu option where you can add things. Internet banking is one of them.

The ATM made me enter phone number to verify, then it said the PIN will be mailed to my physical address.

  4. 1) Which branch?

    2) what type of account?

    3) what address did you use? (ie do you rent a condo or hotel address?)

Ban pong.. an hour outside bangkok.

    Savings account i think.

Used TGF's address as they send internet banking PIN there. Dont think they would care about hotel as address.

They would care if your address was a hotel room lol

I opened one a long time ago from a hotel but they did ask a letter from the owner/manager to prove I resided there at the time...

How would they know it is a hotel? Just put the address of the hotel and the room number..

The document the TGF had to sign asked if i was a friend socially, from work, or if we lived with each other.

It is the same form though..

  5. A government completely lacking in talent, creativity, and competence, will always resort to taxes, as a solution to nearly any problem.

Taxation is an extremely effective way to reduce demand for what are believed to be harmful products.

    People will consume less.

The only issue appears with the vices as increased taxation creates or proliferates a blackmarket economy.

I doubt people are going to be making batches of cola in their bathtubs.

  6. No airport anywhere in the world, that I have been to, is cheap. ALL are overpriced, compared to prices outside the airport. So why is this news?

I agree with you that most airports around the world overcharge. It's a fact. However in my opinion there are some airports that are less greedy. For example Hong Kong airport prices do not differ that much from the prices within the city.

    Overcharge?

Airport rents, at least for restaurants, are the most expensive per square foot in the world, as there is a known quantity of passengers flowing through, which are likely hungry etc..

I have no idea why the government would complain about high prices.. perhaps lower rents??

Does the government think the restaurant WANTS to charge 300% or whatever more? Not at all.. The restaurant HAS to charge multiples more to maintain a proper profit margin.
