  1. I join the forum just to reply to this. I posted 2 items (important documents) to UK on Feb 1 and they're both been saying outward oe since Feb 2 til now. Thai post call centre saids it's the UK side. I'm incredibly frustrated. If anyone posted around that period having their items starting to arrive, please let me know.

I posted a handful if items to the US a month ago, still showing 'departure from outward whatever' on tracking, no updates for weeks, just nothing. Usually 2/3 weeks and everything arrives, going into week 5 now. So I guess it's not the UK end, something definitely up with Thai Post.
  2. You guys considered consolidation? Seems to me that if there are a number of you, all sending items to the UK regularly, send them all together in one box, then get then re-posted individually on arrival in the UK.

    Feaseable ?

For those selling online I think it would be a good idea. Use a fulfillment centre in the UK, it's a pound or so extra I'd think, but you can raise your price on eBay since it's a UK seller listing as far as anyone knows. Send a huge box full of stock and let them deal with it. People will always pay more for the quicker/non-abroad delivery, I know I always did on eBay. I'm not too sure if it makes sense since I don't dabble online much, but if you're doing that then you'll also be legal (assuming you're not at the mo)? Since all you're doing is just sending stuff to the UK from your side, it sells in the UK, pays to your UK bank, gets delivered by a UK company and so on? You're not doing anything work related from Thailand, just incase.

I don't think many sellers know about fullfillment centres, which is a shame. Take a look at these guys on the link I post. Is their product better than anything I could buy (and sell) at a fraction of the price in LoS, I doubt it. But the story is good (ebay can't give you that) and more importantly the customer gets the goods in days not weeks. I know that if I'm looking to buy stuff on ebay then mostly I will tick the UK only box. OK I get it if you're just trying to tick over but then you will always be at the vagaries of the postal system.

Very true. Their story is bullshit, hand stitched in villages(?!), but that's what makes them successful. It's all about branding, then you can sell anything.

  4. I finished it today, all 10 shows, was up till 3 am last night. Verdict = 10/10 for a doco , I think I was just as upset as Steve when I heard the verdict. Wow there was never any doubt in my mind after watching 10 hours of court room drama that they were both innocent.

Yeah same here (also up to the early hours watching!). The hopelessness of it all really got to me, and that poor kid Brendan, what they did to him was terrible.

Definitely think the brother and ex-bf know more than they're letting on, not to mention them having access to the (spare)key that was found and Teresa's answerphone messages etc.

    Just dodgy as hell.

  5. Making a Murderer is a must watch for anyone looking for good programs, a Netflix documentary series on the conviction and court case of some guy in the US, very similar to Koh Tao actually.

great recommendation, cant stop watching it..

Let me know what your verdict is after you finish the series.
  6. One relatively easy way is simply to run Netflix off a Windows or Mac laptop that has video out capability, and connect the laptop to the TV with the appropriate video out cable -- HDMI, DisplayPort, SuperVideo, etc etc.

That way, you can also use a VPN or DNS redirect service is you desire, and select the Netflix region of content of your heart's desire (U.S., UK, etc.)

The USa or UK netflix. Are they free ?

If not how does one sign up for a US account ?

Netflix doesn't care where you sign up. You get the content from where it thinks you're located, regardless of where your account is based. If you want the US version, use a VPN or DNS service that gives you a US location.
Mmm a slight correction....if you sign up in Thailand without VPN you will be considered a Thai user and only get Thai media.
I signed up here, when using a Vpn I get the US stuff. Guessing it's IP based. Just have to start your browser/Netflix app fresh after turning the vpn on.
  7. Incorrect. The price is correct but the weight has been increased to 10kgs and the box is 20% bigger.

There are now 3 One World Boxes.

But still a huge increase on all sizes compared to the old 1400bht box!

Have you see the new box sizes? They're tiny, the biggest box is about the size of the D box that you could one-box @ 1400 previously. The smallest box with the new system is about a size B, pretty useless.

  8. Ah, I've driven past this blokes place in Nong Hoi I think. Along a soi off the highway road leading to cm-lamphun Rd right at Nong Hoi market.

Coming from the highway it's the first soi after the bridge, just after a gas station. Before the turn in the highway road.

From City/Nong Hoi way (top to bottom on map coming down cm-lamphun Rd) it's the first right after Holiday Inn/Riverside condo (at lights/zebra crossing)

    Hope this helps.

    Koaklang circled here.

  9. Lol airbnb is a rip off. Bit of a trend atm I think, marking up basic condos to newcomers.

AirBnB is for holiday rentals. It's up to individual hosts to set pricing, but personally I think they'd do well to stay in a range comparable to hotel accommodation that offers similar space and amenities.

Also AirBnB rates tend to include everything: electricity, water, WiFi, cable, etc, etc. Plus the better hosts will be providing a lot more service and assistance, helping out with all kinds of stuff. (Not everyone does that, of course.)

It won't ever be comparable to just renting something, it should be compared against hotel accommodation. Most typically it's used by tourists, and then especially families or groups of people who can rent a house or larger apartment that everyone fits in, as opposed to multiple hotel rooms.

And when tourists come to Chiang Mai it's most likely for a handful of days (3-7) and they'll pay daily rates. If you plug in a 30 day stay then it's going to add up to something really high. (Hosts can set lower monthly rates if they want but but it's much more profitable to rent for 4-8 days at a time.) So it's a bit similar to going to agoda.com and plugging in 30 days, then you're up to 30K baht minimum per month even for a single room.

    Good point, that makes sense.
  10. today i found a condo that is owned by the same exact company that owns my current place, location is somewhat ****tier but the look/features is all the same. The room I saw is IDENTICAL to the one I'm currently staying in (except for all the fancy appliances), its got all the basics, chairs, tables, 46" plasma, bed, utensils, plates. Gym + pool, not sure about sauna and stuff, and its 1/5.5 the price Im currently paying, god I feel ripped off. damn airbnb

Lol airbnb is a rip off. Bit of a trend atm I think, marking up basic condos to newcomers.

You can find 30sqm places from 3k up all over, the western areas like Nimman are more pricey (depends on what you're after, but I'd hate living there myself so the extra expense doesn't make sense to me), further outside the old city and surrounding areas you go, the cheaper still. 10k could easily get a little house if you're staying long term.

  11. It's fairly obvious the visa changes are aimed at tackling illegal workers, and you could go as far as to say the various crackdowns in Chiang Mai atm are because these idiots flaunt working illegally

LOL, sure, nothing to do with Vientiane saying they can't verify foreign bank statements, so doing it in home country consulates would be easier. Or ASEAN. Or actual criminals, drug dealers, etc. Or the military government. Or even the 9000 overstayers (mostly from developing countries) that were recently rounded up.

No, no, it's those few thousand Amazon affiliate site builders from rich western nations, that'll be it.

What Chiang Mai crackdown? Enforcing nightclub closing times? Ok, nothing to do with the recent death in Zoe club a few months ago, right.

It's a whole host of things, no question, but look at the visa requirements. Criminals, drug dealers etc. no problem skirting the METV in some way I'd say. Overstayers have no effect on the METV, if they overstay then it doesn't really matter about visas. Thailand has had those for decades, why the change now? It affects those coming here and working on the sly more than anyone else, those without big sums in the bank. & nobody died in Zoe's AFAIK, just a rumor. I would have thought if a foreigner got beaten to death here it'd make the news somewhere instead of just Chinese whispers on social media.

Whatever the reasons, the digital nomad rubbish certainly hasn't helped the situation.

  12. To me that suggests it isn't a legal issue. Or that Thailand has no interest in pursuing them whatsoever. Which makes sense, they're not harming anyone.

    Except other foreigners.

It's fairly obvious the visa changes are aimed at tackling illegal workers, and you could go as far as to say the various crackdowns in Chiang Mai atm are because these idiots flaunt working illegally and tell everyone to come and join in the fun on their digital nomad blog sites. Chiang Mai is overrun with these types, there'll be more foreigners than Thai before long, everyday I see posts on websites where someone is packing up to come to Chiang Mai and start working online, even the FB groups are full of them blatantly saying 'Hey, just got my tourist visa, I'm coming to Chiang mai to work as a digital nomad, where is the best place to stay on Nimman with good wifi?'.

Of course Thai authorities are not going to waste time staking out coffee shops to snare some guy on his laptop. It's not because they allow it, it's because it's pointless. They've just changed the visas instead.

  13. Yes it should be no problem if you go before the 13th.

Now is the time to do it,I expect it may be busier than usual given the circumstances.

    Good luck.

Cutting it fine, but my current visa runs out in a few days, was wondering if I fly out to Penang tomorrow, 11th, apply on 12th for a double (not sure if I'll make it in time for an 11th application, never been before so unsure how it works).. would that work do you think?

    Or is it too close?

Penang does not do 2 entry tourist visas. Your only choice is either location in Laos.
    Ahhhh damn, of course. Thanks.
  14. I was in BKK recently and there was a guy and I guess his wife on the bottom floor of MBK doing them, although probably tourist prices. Very skilled though, photo realistic pencil work. Not sure if it helps but might be worth a look.

  16. Your best bet is to ask for an extension (tell them that the new passport application is pending), then apply for the new passport, and finally transfer the current entry stamp and perhaps the visa into it (this requires an embassy-issued letter asking immigration to do so).

If Thai immigration refuses to put an extension into your damaged passport, one way to stay legal is to get an limited-validity emergency passport. Ask the UK embassy about it, you might be able to get your stamp transferred into that, and the extension issued on it, until you obtain the permanent passport.

Emergency passport issued by UK Embassy will only be Issued if one has to travel within the next 5 working days.

I am not sure if the following is still valid. I certainly know it used to be so.

It is valid for travel through 5 countries maximum, last entry must be country of legal residence.

Note: Visa exemption (VOA?) + 30 day extension should buy you enough time until new passport comes in.

Current passport processing time is 4 weeks from reception at Liverpool. Takes 1.5 days to get there, 1.5 to get it back. I know I very recently processed a new

passport. You might make it by skin of your teeth. Getting Emergency appointment at Trendy can be done same day..so do it now! call / email them!

However you may/will have difficulty obtaining a new passport from abroad as you you have to provide bona fide proof of address in the country you are applying from (Thailand, Duh!) I used a letter from bank, and a letter from immigration confirming my address. Anything in Thai you will have to translate into English.

Kasikorn will give you a letter confirming your Thai address in English. Took me a day to get and 3 staff +help from their call centre while in my local branch! (T.I.T....<deleted>)

Also do have a look around for the receipt from the embassy or consulate that issued your visa. It usually has your details on it like Visa number, date of issue, type, fee paid and so on. It may assist you in getting a replacement visa.

    Good luck.

    Update!

Applied fora new UK passport last Tuesday..It is ready for collection in Bangkok Today! so 9 days is the current processing time from application to recieving in your hand!

I also applied Tuesday funnily enough, not heard anything yet though. Did they email or call you?
  17. I recently got refused an ED Visa in HCMC, I think due to three b2b double entries from Laos. Can't say for sure that was why since they wouldn't tell me a reason, but she scrutinized them before taking it back to some guy who came out and said they can't do it there, try Laos. Paperwork was all in order as far as I know.

Had heard HCMC can/have refused a visa at the officers discretion in the past, but also heard it was a fairly good place to go, so maybe I was just unlucky.

Also needed proof of onward travel for in/out there. Embassy was very quiet though, I think about 5 people there in total.
