There is absolutely no problem getting a visa for 14 days on arrival for tourist's at Hanoi no letter needed, very polite and friendly at immi . This is a trial period which going to be reviewed in June this year. Have just done this a few weeks ago. Have good time.

Paid 3600Baht return with Jetstar Pathetic just over a week ago. Easter prices coming soon.

Have you tried skyscanner

Depending on your passport you do not need a letter of approval for a free visa on arrival which lasts for 15 days this is a trial by Immi which will be reviewed in June of this year. Have just done this on UK passport, very quiet no queue's, brand new Airport and very friendly.

Also the fact that for 5 nights it did not cost that much more than the overnight trip to Vientiane. Cheap flight with Jetstar (not recommended if you are over 4'6'') but only an 1hr 40 to put up with it and Halong Bay is a must see when there.

Just returned from Hanoi after getting SETV .expected to have to provide 4 foto's etc as per their site but was pleased to find that the Hotel I booked into said they could do it for me.
All they wanted was 1 foto, passport and 55U$ so that gave us extra time to do the tourist bit.
Nice Hotel just refurbished extremely helpful staff resonable price - Ha Noi Old Quarter Hotel.
Have an email address for anyone who wants to book direct and not having to pay booking fees

Recent problem at Jomtien for ext was that they required Thai ID with the lease agreement or as in this case -If Farang - ID and work permit of owner which I could not supply as they had no work permit

Sorry if this posted elsewhere but just to confirm, in case this is of use to anyone. Have just returned from Vientiane and only the 60 plus 30 ext is available there no METV but you are allowed to back to back these entrys, not sure how many but personally happy with the situation. We went with a visa agent as we are new to all this. This runs was great, very pleased with the set up as we did not have to fill out any paperwork or pick up our visa's as this was done for us, but in saying that it is very easy to DIY but a lot more queuing and having to return the next day for collection.

Have just been to a local Thai Visa Office and have been informed that it is not a problem after the 13th to get the 6 month multi, just a Passport and 3 photo,s are required. The new rules are supposed to simplify the system apparently. Will be going at the end of the month so will let you know, that is if nobody finds out before.

Many thanks again, sounds like a cunning plan. Will probably try and get mine and then the Wife's and in the meantime look up a trip to Vientiane as a failsafe. We have a month on our hands so we can see which way to go.
Many Thanks to you all for the Help it much appreciated

So it looks like I should not make a nuisance and a name for myself at immigration and get my Ret Ext and then sort the wife out when granted
Thanks again
-
Yeah good advice Thanks
Hoping to get my Wife on the Retirement Ext with just my proof of income
Madam has just requested marriage cert from uk.gov and should be here by the end of the week express post £23-40 great service

30 day ext is until 29th Nov so have a bit of breathing space.
Just downloaded embassy request form.
Have seen ads for agents claiming to get visas without proof of funds but feel if it's to good to be true etc.
Will request marriage cert tomorrow if Jomtien agree
-
Thanks for that . Will go again tomorrow and ask.
Did contact the British Embassy in Bangkok but they did not know what was required and are going to ring back but I am still waiting, We wanted to go and get letter of proof but they have no counter service and we will have to use post. Cutbacks Eh. and not cheap for 2 letters

Have just returned from Jontiem immi and asked at the counter if my wife could be granted a visa on the 65000 baht bank statement with me and was told to apply as separate visa and each required a bank statement for 65,000 with embassy letter each.
We had visa on arrival and are now on a 30 day extension from Jontiem. I don't feel it would be a good idea to try and argue with them over the case whether right or wrong but did read blog a saying this was now the case due lots of marriage splits.
-
Thanks for reply. Have inquired at Jontiem and have been told each of us need proof of 65,000 income but if we deposit 800,000 marriage certificate will be accepted but am unable to meet that amount. Really useful link thanks vm.

Hi all
We are trying to get the retirement visa but have a few problems because uk bank account is in both names and I now believe that you cannot have your spouse on the visa without her also having a 65000 baht income . Could you please advise if this is now the case and is there any way around it. also we don,t have marriage certificate with us. Thought of getting married again to get a cerficate but don,t want to make the same mistake twice. ( I jest in case the wife reads this) Have read Jomtien used to accept one income but not any more
Thanks Everyone
