Very little details on what caused the explosion at this stage, hopefully no serious injuries and more details will follow.

Seems good procedures to evacuate a wide area, as ammonia is harmful if inhaled or swallowed, can cause lung injury (effects may be delayed). It is corrosive to the eyes, skin and respiratory tract. Can cause permanent eye injury or blindness, and permanent scarring of the skin, depending on exposure.

Ammonia is lighter than air, so natural dispersal will occur, and so no chance of build up in low areas. Below for comparison, is an example of the size of the risk/exposure area (i have not used ice factory location). This is from using an emergency hazmat response app, Wiser.

Overall, accurate information George. But it must be remembered that while Ammonia has a vapor density of 0.59 (air=1), when a release occurs in the presence of moisture such as rain or high humidity levels, the vapors can become heavier than air.  Thanks for your comments and stay safe.

  2. I wish the lad all the best, but I must say, this article raises more questions than answers.  Has he actually been tested for the presence of Leukemia? There are several different medical conditions that can lower a person's blood count. Examples include bleeding in the GI track, kidney disease, cancer, cirrhosis and Rheumatoid Arthritis to name a few.

Certainly a tough situation to be in and being in a government operated hospital is only making things more difficult. My thoughts and prayers goes out to him 🙏

  3. Utterly disgusting parent(s) but I must add: who decided she is "disabled?"  If she has been legally determined to be medically disabled because of injuries, she has no business being on a motorbike. She would be well advised to sell that bike and while its great she wants to continue with her studies, she absolutely needs to ride in something that has four wheels under her. Someone needs to call child protective services. Very obvious to me she doesn't have a responsible adult caring for her.

Some people seem to be in a hurry to walk with Buddha.

  4. This family should consider themselves very blessed and lucky that they survived such an incident. That said, I do wonder why she entered the jacuzzi in the first place. I learned a long time ago during my career that expectant mothers were always cautioned by their GP and/or OB-GYN to either limit their time in a jacuzzi (or hot tub) to no more than ten minutes, or preferably, avoid such use all together. Water temperature that is too hot can indeed be a threat to the mother and child and not knowing if the water has been regularly tested and treated for bacteria, can have devastating consequences for everyone.

  5. There is no doubt in my mind this family is very lucky to have survived such an incident. And while the expectant mother is wise to be concerned about possible effects on her baby and her family, I must add: given my hospital and intensive care experiences, expectant mothers are typically cautioned to limit their time in a jacuzzi or hot tub for only ten minutes. And depending on the water temperature, ten minutes may be too long. Most physicians I know recommend that a jacuzzi or hot tub be avoided during pregnancy. I wish them all the best ????

  6. Given the style and substance by the author who wrote this article, I suspect some readers have already formed their opinion of the woman. I'm not at all impressed with the writer.  And, I suspect her "thin body and model-like appearance" may well be the effects of drugs. I further suspect she absolutely needs a in-patient physical and mental health evaluation. I'm not sure what it is, but based on my own EMS and fire rescue experiences, people who experience an acute psychotic episode often times will set fire to their clothing and personal belongings.

I applaud others for their apparent quick actions in extinguishing the fire and I sincerely hope she is given the help that she desperately needs. As for her claims regarding Mr. Gerrard, only time will tell.
