  1. Well doc, I was thinling of making some smart arse commend about things Oz, but sense and sensability got the better of me.

The great pity is that this is no isolated place. these "brothels" are to be found in Europe too, most supplied by Chinese Thai procurers who have absolutely no respect for others' rights to a life.

Seems to be a cultural trait.

p1p is there any evidence to support that they are "most supplied by Chinese Thai procurers" not just "thai procurers".

I read somewhere that an estimated 60% thais had some chinese blood in them, so you could use the argument that as most "Thais" are "Chinese Thais" then most "Thai procurers" would be "Chinese Thai procurers". Other than this obvious statment is there any other evidence.

I believe you are confusing the estimated ratio of Thai-Chinese who comprise Bangkok's population, about 60%, with a much lower percentage of the general population. And considering that (1) the Thai-Chinese control an estimated 90% of Thai commerce, that (2) the entire sex industry began in earnest with the needs of the single Chinese men who emmigrated at the turn of the century in large numbers, that (3) the Chinese triads have significant representation and connections overseas that no Thai organization has (the MIB do not reach beyond the borders) and (4) also taking into consideration the preponderance of common knowledge, including one of the most veteran ex-pats to grace these boards, p1p, then only the most instransigent apologist would bury their head so deeply into the sand and claim p1p's statement lacks truth.

And for every Thai-Chinese or Thai procurer that brings a sex worker into Oz, Europe or farangland, there's at least one, if not more Autralian, European or farang partner. How else can the Thai-Chinese or Thai procurer make the arrangements to bring these girls in?

I was once asked by a Singapore Chinese guy if I knew women that wanted to work in Singapore.

He said he would pay me for taking Girls to Singapore, fares expenses and a fee.

He asked me because I used to go there a lot, and he knew that I was also living in Pattaya when I was in Thailand. And some girls I knew had asked me to take them to Singapore.

When he told me that they would have been working in Gaylang Road, kept in a house, would have to pay the Agent ( Him ) 2000 Singapore Dollars out of her earnings then she would start earning money for herself.

She would have had to go with 100, low paying customers before she would be free of debt. Cos she would also have to pay for the house and food etc also. So she would only be able to pay the agent 20 $ from each client!

    My answer was, No.

I could never have faced those girls again if I had decieved them into thinking they would earn lots of money, with a chinese boss in Gaylang, he earns the money.

Yes there are girls that work in Singapore that do well, there are many more that do not.

    Bad business all round.

There are presently 2 systems where the Thai (working ladies)WLs operates in Singapore - the "legal" way or the "illegal" way.

Legal way would mean that the authorities are aware of the WL and have control measures and will be allowed to work in Singapore for up to a maximum of 2 years. Illegal way would mean Free Lancers (FLs) eventhough they have pimps and they work on social visits of about 2 weeks at a time.

The offer that you had has a mixture of both elements which is not normally the case, but basing on your statement that there are girls that do well and many more that do not, I would assume that these are the illegals. For the "legal" ones, even after working for 6 months, a bottom of the line would have made at least half a million Baht.

  2. ...Actually, in my experience students usually share a room and they end up paying about 500 baht per month or there abouts.
But this wouldn't change the fact, that it is hard to find a room in BKK under 3000฿? Wouldn't it? :o

Which also doesn't change the fact that a 2000 Baht contribution by the Surin Province which do not need to do so, isn't an insult as far as the Thais are concern. :D

  3. Victim sues three Thais after being lured and forced to work at Japanese brothel. A terminal-stage cancer patient yesterday filed a Bt4.68-million compensation lawsuit against three convicted human traffickers who lured her to a brothel in Japan where she was forced into prostitution.

Urairat Soimee, 38, said the forced sexual services also left her with ovarian cancer.

“I hope I still have enough time to complete this court battle,” Urairat said after she lodged the lawsuit with Lom Sak Provincial Court.

Reflecting her fear that she might not make it, Urairat has already appointed her adoptive mother to take charge if she passes away before the completion of her case.

Some doctors have said that Urairat only has a few months to live.

“I will fight until my last breath,” Urairat said.

To her, money is not the goal. She just hopes she can set a precedent that human traffickers must face not just criminal conviction, but also civil prosecution.

Urairat’s case is the country’s first civil lawsuit against human traffickers.

In her affidavit, Urairat named Sarit Kampa, his wife Kai Kampa and their grown-up daughter Pattama Kosaka as defendants.

The Criminal Court previously convicted Sarit, Kai and Pattama of human trafficking after another Thai woman complained that they also lured her to Japan where she was forced to work as a prostitute. Urairat was listed as one of the plaintiffs in that case.

Sarit and Kai are appealing the guilty verdict. Pattama, who married a Japanese man, did not protest.

According to Urairat, the defendants offered to hire her as a waitress at a restaurant in Japan. However, she was sent to a brothel where she was told to provide sexual services and repay the brothel operator Bt1 million.

After working for a period of time, Urairat tried to escape. During the attempt, Urairat, with the help of a Thai man accidentally killed a “mama san”. She was arrested and a Japanese court sentenced her to seven years in prison.

After five years she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer, at which time she was released and allowed to return to Thailand. At that time, the Japanese authorities were informed of how Urairat was tricked into the flesh trade.

Lom Sak Provincial Court’s chief justice Pussanai Piphukkul said his court would expedite Urairat’s case, but the trial time would depend on when the Criminal Court could close its case.

“The Criminal Court’s verdict counts in civil cases,” Pussanai said.

Urairat’s lawyer Siriwan Wongkiatpaisan, who works for Fight Against Child Exploitation (FACE), said Urairat’s civil lawsuit would let other victims know that they were entitled to seek compensation.

Anyone wanting to offer assistance to Urairat can do so via FACE.

  4. Hi!

I'm going to Thailand about five weeks.

And i wan't to see some pictures on clothes which is bought in Thailand.

Clothes, shoes and accesories from diesel, evisu, levis, dior, puma, adidas, reebok, converse, nike, quicksilver, billabong, ripcurl, lacoste.

    All kind of brands.

Or if you have some pics on the shops in MBK for example.

    Thanks!

doesn't these branded items have their own websites? I mean, would the addidas shorts differ from wherever you are compared to Thailand?

I mean if you're looking for Thai Traditional costumes, I would understand, but international brands???

  5. But I don't think its fair to use foreign currency (or standard of living) to peg on the baht to say what is fair or unfair. If you were earning $3000 to $4000 baht and receives $2000, is that considered small to you? Maybe it is, I don't know. I don't think I want to elaborate on this "amount" they way foreigners look at as I'm sure many will be offended. :o
    thaivisitor,

as I said, 2000฿ would not cover the monthly rent for the vitims room in BKK :D

    Patex

Yes I know that. But funny no one thought of it when they booked a hooker and tries to get her overnight rates to lower than 2000 baht saying "phaang, phaang". Probably hookers back home costs much lower???

Wondered why the hookers didn't tell them to keep their 2000 baht and buy their kids sweeties :D:D

    :D ??

My point is I find it very ironical that foreigners were to comment 2000 baht is "peanuts" when the money doesn't comes out of their pockets. :D

  7. If a British person marries a Thai girl in a Thai Embassy abroad (not LOS) is the marriage legal in the UK?

I have had different views on this, with no definite answers.

I have some doubt whether an embassy is permitted to perform a marriage, whether it even has the blank forms to issue a marriage certificate.

Where did you get the information that a Thai embassy can marry two people?

    -------------

    Maestro

I didn't get the information, I married a Thai girl in the Thai Embassy in Abu Dhabi about 8 years ago.

The reason I asked if it was legal in the UK, is because we have been separated for 8 months and I want to get a divorce, if its necessary.

It's definitely news to me on getting married at the Thai Embassy. I know you can't do that in SG. And I believe you can't do that in many countries.

Maybe because its a Muslim Country and they don't have the "normal" way of getting married which is why they allow the embassies to do the registration. I don't know, just a guess.

  8. Thai man detained for allegedly raping British tourist at beach resort

BANGKOK, Thailand (AP) - Police in the Thai beach resort of Pattaya said Monday they had detained a man suspected of raping a British tourist after offering her a ride on his motorcycle.

Police arrested the 19-year-old after the woman, identified as a 29-year-old tourist from the city of Liverpool, told police she had been raped by a Thai man, said police Maj. Apimuk Amnartmankong. He faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted.

The arrest came just two weeks after another British tourist, 21-year-old Katherine Horton of Wales, was raped and murdered on New Year's Day in the southern beach resort of Koh Samui. Two Thai fisherman are on trial for that crime, which carries the death penalty. The pair is expected to be sentenced Wednesday.

Police said the alleged rape in Pattaya occurred Saturday evening, when the woman was waiting for a taxi and a man pulled up on his motorcycle and offered her a ride, which she accepted. Motorcycle taxis are common in Thailand.

The man allegedly stopped the motorcycle on a dark road, dragged the woman into an area of bushes and raped her, the woman told police, Apimuk said.

Pattaya, about 110 kilometers (70 miles) southeast of Bangkok, is known for its beaches, its thriving sex industry and high crime rate.

Guess they have to really start beefing up the security, not just talk about it.

  9. Agree with you Marshbags on this one. When I had read thaivisitors post ealrier today, I was disappointed that someone could actually make such a statement as that. All more the reason that I choose to rarely know or hang out with other foreigners here.

To me the value of a youngs man life who making something for himself and his family is worth more than what was given. 2,000baht which is less than 50USD right now. As much as I do love living here in Thailand, it does every so often bother me when I see things such as this happening, yet very little will be done, if anything. Sure, an authority may go through the complimentary motions but I have to wonder what, if anything will actually be done. He wasn't a tourist (no offense intended), he wasn't from a rich family, just a young man trying to better himself. It was just a waste of a life for no valid reason at all.

Heng, if I seemed a little harsh to you, I apologize for that. I didn't mean to write that you had thought he deserved it. Having lived near that university for a few years, having known a good number students (one who is my roommate) from Ramkamhaeng, it made me think about many of their backgrounds and stories which are similar to the deceased. All have been excellent people to know and the realization it could have been any of them left me with a rather empty feeling.

If I decide to ever give money to a family to assist, trust me thaivisitor, nobody will ever know. That's not what giving and helping is about. If it's not from the heart and in the "true" sense of giving, then it was never true help or giving in the first place.

Fredo, if its my last statement that you're refering to, I apologise for that. I agree that was a little below the belt, uncalled for.

Maybe you could also give me an insight to what will be done if such things were to happen in your country? I mean, since you say little is done here.

  10. Different perspectives with regards to 2000 Baht.

Firstly in such a case, there is no necessity for any authorities to even give any money as this is not a case which involves compensation from them.

Secondly, the 2000 Baht is a gesture from the province where the student lived, not from Bangkok or the uni. Whose to say its too little or an insult? Do you know how people are there in Surin province and if they were to give everyone who dies 2000 Baht? :o

Anyone feeling they could do better can always send whatever money to the family thru the newspaper. Might even give you a bit of a profile if you contribute more than 2000 Baht. :D

Re the last observation, it,s sarcasmn of the worst kind.

No doubt about it, the local Moo Ban will show the generousity and compassion this sad official didn,t have a clue about.

Let us get this clear thaivisitor.

This student didn,t just die of old age and the authorities would have been better served if they had kept the initial offer in their pocket instead of treating the family in such a condescending manner.

It could be they thought they would get some publicity from what they thought was a generous contribution.

    ( like hel_l it is )

Well surprise surprise it,s done the opposite, ( i,ll bet they,ll now say they where mis quoted. )

Now tell me, what would you do with such an offer had it been your son or any member of your family had been killed in this manner.

I do know in the u.k. the offer would have caused anger, big time and made headlines of a very desparaging manner.

We are talking respect here and there can only be one line of thought that is just and humane,

I,m afraid from where i,m coming from your way off line with your perspective.

    marshbags :D:D:D

    kekekekekekeke, relaxxxxx....

OK, OK, I take back my statement on the last observation with relations to asking others to contribute more than 2000 Baht.

Allow me to enlighten you about the local Moo Ban "generosity". This 200 Baht is a MUST from every family in the village concern. We're talking about those involved with the program. Just like when I pay me insurance premiums, the deceased gets to have the money first, not because I'm generous.

By the way, I'm not saying that they give the money unwillingly, though but try to see a few deaths in a month and you'll see some complaining that they have to "spend" a lot of money that month.

Also, let's get this clear too. The student's death has got nothing to do with the authorities of Surin. Whether its 2000 baht or 2 million baht is not for you and I to say its an insult as you do not know the system in the village. How do you know whether the family of the deceased is grateful or not for this amount?

As for me, what ever amount given for the demised of a family member, be it from an individual or a corportation, or even from the authorities, I'll say thank you. But of course I'll push for the death penalty for the 4 or 5 responsible for it. :D

Well, in UK, the offer would have caused anger which must be why the Wales authorities would rather not give anything for Katherine Horton.(I didn't read anywhere to say she was)

You are not talking about respect. In fact you do not actually know what you are talking about. You are just using your feelings, as in many here who posts. (I'll address them on a post by post basis as I deemed fit :D)

No, I don't think I'm way off from my perspective. And I state it again. The death of the student has got nothing to do with the Surin Authorities and the Surin Authorities do not even need to compensate a single baht but they were kind enough to contribute 2000 Baht. :D

  11. ...Do you know how people are there in Surin province and if they were to give everyone who dies 2000 Baht?...
2000฿?? I think the victim's monthly rent for his room in BKK is above this :o .

My M-i-l out there in Buriram pays for every deathcase in her village about 200฿, when she is going to die we will get about 80 000฿ from the villagecommunity... keep your 2000 and buy your children some sweeties.

Every village does that - giving 200 Baht and some rice. It's some form of like an insurance. How much one's get on death depends on how many families there are in the village.

  12. 13 die in Sa Kaew highway crash

BANGKOK: -- A pickup truck packed with farm labourers crashed into an 18-wheel truck, killing 13 of the people in the pickup and leaving 10 others injured.

The accident occurred at 5:30 a.m. local time in Sa Kaew province east of Bangkok, when the driver of the pickup, 18-year-old Virapol Muanmak, tried to pass another car and smashed head on into a truck, reported iTV.

The one-ton pickup was packed with 23 people returning to Ubon Ratchathani province from Chon Buri, where they had been employed to cut sugarcane.

    --DPA/Bangkok Post 2006-01-16

I hope the Ubon Ratchathani Province Governor don't do something insulting like ordering the province authorities to give each of the family of the dead 2000 Baht. :o

  14. Two-timing husbands foiled by cheat-proof marriage registrations

BANGKOK: -- Two-timers -- already married men who marry again -- will be blocked from deceiving women into additional marriages by new registration recommendations by a Thammasat University researcher.

Marriage registrations should be allowed only in the home town of either the husband or the wife, said an academic from Thammasat's Faculty of Law, and the registrar should be held accountable for making sure that no party has ever registered before.

However, implementation of the researcher's recommendations or not is subject to detailed consideration, and depends upon the outcome of that process, Mrs. Kingkaew said.

    --TNA 2006-01-09

hahaha, and they call this "cheat proof"...

    hahahahahahahahahahaha

  15. One thing about me, I’m sort of the adventurous type, venturing out alone to places I don’t know. I like to also share my first experience to the Land Of Smile (LOS), not in Bangkok but to Hatyai.

It was back in 1982, when I became a "man" and got my “key” (21 years old) where I am allowed to travel out of the country by myself. I was in the Armed Forces at that time, and man, as usual during our free time, exchanged stories with my collegues. It was this one guy who kept telling us of his sexual escapades to Hatyai, showing us pictures of the girls there, which burned my desire to travel to this wonderful place.

I collected as much information as I can from my friends with regards to which hotel to stay, how much the girls will cost, etc. Too bad there wasn't any forums to "enlighten" us and also I don't think we have heard of the Internet back then.

When I got my “key”, I decided that it was time to travel out. So after some persuasion, mum decided it was OK for me to travel alone and gave me SGD500.00. I also have some savings on my own too.

One month before my expected departure, I started to prepare myself. No masturbation and no sex. Bought a bottle of multi-vitamin pills and take it obediently everyday. Also took Brands Essence of Chicken weekly. In camp, I went for jogs every morning and had a can of stout almost every evening. When I looked at myself, man, was I powerful!!!

I booked my bus ticket which was only $40 (2 way) plus another $2.00 for the illegal so-called “toll fee” which the Malaysian authorities collected along the journey. Then I went to the money changer to change $500.00. The rate then was $1.00 to 14 baht. Man..! I had 7,000 baht! I also bought a box of condoms on the advice of my friends as they said it was hard to get it in Hatyai at that time.

The night before my trip, I couldn’t sleep, getting excited over my first trip to "monger" out of the country, and to add to that, ALONE! I rehearsed and recalled all that I have learn from my friends. Also practiced some basic Thai words with a Thai-English dictionary which one of my friends loan me.

The next day, I went to board my 44-seater bus. The bus was almost full with a mix of both Singaporeans and Thais (male and female). I did not get the chance to have one of the cute Thai girls sitting beside me, or else I could have struck a conversation with them on the journey.

The journey was a f**king long 18 plus hours. There were no highways at that time, and the bus do not provide blankets like they do today. Moreover, my ###### seat couldn't even recline. Anyway, my excitement of going to Hatyai beats all discomfort I had in the bus, and my military training has taught me to sleep under any conditions (we can even sleep while standing in the drizzle, kekeke).

There were a few stops for breaks and eventually we reached the border in the wee hours of dawn. At the immigration point on the Thai side of the borders were many tuk-tuks coming to us with various brochures of hotels. I took out my Thai-English Dictionary to try to communicate with them, but <deleted>, they all speak Hokkien, a Chinese dialect that all Singaporeans know. Anyway, from earlier info I gathered back home, I negotiated with a tuk-tuk, and it took the tuk-tuk an hour before arriving at the hotel. Th first hotel has large rooms, no aircon but had a big fan in the ceiling for only 100 Baht. No can do, I wanted more comfort! The Tuk-tuk driver told me that aircon rooms will cost about 300 baht so we went to the recommended Scala Hotel. (You can’t find the hotel anymore.) where the tuk-tuk driver, Ah Tee carried my bag as I checked in to the hotel. Ah Tee, by the way was a Thai Chinese and speaks Teochew, another Chinese dialect similar to Hokkien.

The hotel was only 280 Baht, clean, with bathtub, etc, like what you find now in Hatyai Palace but newer. They have a coffeehouse at the lobby and a barber shop, lounge area with newspapers, etc. Once in my room, Ah Tee straight away ask me in chinese "Big brother, do you want a girl?". I replied "of course", What the <deleted> (<deleted>) am I here for? So off we went on his tuk-tuk to the "farm" houses. Driving around in his tuk-tuk, I can see many guys with cute chicks having breakfast together and my interest level kept increasing, kekeke.

We reached a shophouse and the pimp there straight away “welcome” me, saying in Chinese "Come come come, very pretty girls". The pimp pressed a buzzle with a long ring, and soon you see about 30 girls all gathering to “fall in” into their respective positions. I was asked to sit opposite the girls and to choose.

<deleted>!!, like this? 30 pairs of eyes were looking at me! Shit! I already felt shy and dare not look up back at them. Luckily, Ah Tee came and sat beside me and comforted me. "Take you time, look slowly!"At least with another guy beside me, I slowly scanned the girls with my radar eyes. Woooow! Really cute, man! Don’t know how to make up my mind.

Then Ah Tee asked me whether I have anyone in mind. I had, but he said to wait and see other places too! So he took me out, pimp smiling and saying come back later if I cannot find a suitable girl from other places. We went to a couple of doors away, and again same thing happened. Each pimp has their own method of getting the girls to fall in, some use whistle, some door bells, some just shouted.

I guessed I must have seen about 10 to 15 farms when Ah Tee asked me who I wanted. <deleted>, I cannot remember the farm which I spotted a chick, so Ah tee took me round again. Kekekeke. Those days, the tuk-tuk drivers were very patient. I finally found my chick, and after negotiation, the price came to 350 Baht for a One Night Stand (ONS). <deleted>! the time was only about 11.00 am and she will be with me until 9.00 am the next day!

The girl’s name was “Joy” and man, is she going to give me one hel_l a lot of joy! She came with us on the tuk-tuk to the hotel, and Ah Tee told me he will fetch me at 1.00pm for lunch, giving me more than an hour to experience my "Joy".

I don't think I should bore you guys as I can really go on and on with what I did with Joy and the other girls I had which will be 10 pages of my whole experiences but generally, that was my introduction to the LOS.

    *sign* those were the days....

  16. Government declares war on corruption throughout 2006

BANGKOK: --  The government is determined to fight corruption among its officials throughout 2006, Government Spokesman  Surapong Suebwonglee said on Sunday.

    --TNA 2006-01-01

Well, his statement acknowledges that the government has many corrupted officials else why need to declare a one year war on this? Which then implies that TRT has many corrputed peoiple inside since they are the government.

  17. After watching 'saving private ryan' with my girlfriend we were talking about history and it turns out she has never heard of the second world war, Adolf Hitler or the Vietnam war, and was astonished when I told her the Vietnamese won. Is this normal or have I found the most uneducated girl in thailand??

Unless you are from the US which gets involved in all the "historical wars",

why do you find it so surprising if someone is unaware of such things?

You mean to say EVERYONE in your country is aware of all the past events or as you put it "history"?

  18. I think you misunderstood me.  It's the beating of the mamma dog and her

3 YOUNG PUPS(hard to imagine how people do that, although I could understand the mentality), not the killing.  And I don't think the way they have chosen to kill was of any consideration of causing less sufferings but rather for their own convenience.

But please, everyone, may I beg you to try to see, try to understand, that animals have feelings too, they have fear too, no matter how annoying they can be.(they didn't choose to be so, it's SIMPLY their nature) And they really do know what love is.  Please don't make them suffer just for the fun of it or for something you don't really need.

Eat them but don't torture them.

    hi thivisitor

Well I have strong feelings against people who tourtured animals and people who use children for prostitution bussiness...as I said is not rational...

but if something terrible- happen to this kind of people I will think "they deserve it".

different people have different dislikes...and people have strong feelings against different horrible behaviours. What horrible behaviours you dislike most thaivisitor?

Based on the situations you have put out, I fully agree and also have the same stand. I don't agree to torturing of animals, not even birds for the fun of it.

In fact, back in my home country, I also reported a neighbour who has rubber bands round his own pet which was a cat. The rubber band was already eating into the flesh of the cat and he did nothing about it. Of course the cat was taken away (to the SPCA I think) and my neighbour paid a fine. I made no secret that I was the one who reported.

As to what horrible behaviours I dislike most? We're not taking about crimes here like murder or rape, etc so, I seriously do not know where to start but probably as you put it, any irrational behaviour. I am afterall, a rational guy.
