What was your score and why did you do another scan with dye after the first scan to get score without dye if you don’t mind me asking ?

Great you are investigating this FracturedRabbit ... I started testing fasting insulin when I check fasting glucose and HA1c and that has really uncovered even more and a few months ago did a 100 gram three hour Glucose Tolerance Test OGTT with insulin and glucose tested at each hour interval not just glucose . That test was really affordable and along with the fasting insulin, fasting glucose and HA1c I learned so much and all done one morning after I fasted night before and very cheap . I guess Dr. does not order unless you ask because they want to have you as a regular customer when you turn diabetic and have coronary artery and heart disease . No money in health the profit seems to be in disease management not health care .

Where did you get the blood tests done if I may ask?  And how much did they charge?

  2. Granted, mostly us younger guys don't really read Thaivisa on a regular basis (besides check in on visa info or political highlights).

But threads like this just are hilarious.  You guys realize that this is literally one of the most common, played out jokes about the old white man in Thailand?  If it wasn't the forum it is, I'd say the OP is trolling, because ... come on.  It's like by the book.

    1. Not learn basic Thai in TEN years?  - standard whitey joke, oh poor whitey, memorizing words, it's impossible

    2. Build a house (joke by itself) on some romantic interest's father's land?  - ok that's not even standard, that's super hilarious .. the only question is how bad will that get;  get out the popcorn

    3. The thai chick is an ex (ha), and she's in her ... 50's?  - gold, OP, gold!

    4. Threaten beating/burning/action in general - we all know old whitey never actually does anything besides titter around on forums, talking big talk.

    5.  Record oneself being a complete nozzle.  - more solid gold; solid, solid gold performance

And then the whole thread everybody says the obvious, over and over and over, "hey dude, GTFO while you can" and the guy keeps going yea, yea, maybe I'll demolish it, yea, yea, maybe, it's not my fault, the language ... just *classic* dumbassery of the highest epic quality.

Hey.  HOW you going to demolish the house?  By hiring locals with your Thai skills?  By using your charming whiles with the ladies?  By filming ... things?  By your allegiances and cunning?  Is the old man going to stand around and watch while you do it?  Will the local cops?  Will you explain to them your rationale when they show up, angry land owner in tow, all speaking Thai?

Of course OP is screwed.  He'll record himself at the train station, leaving.  Or wind up in some trench somewhere if he has an especially dumb moment.  And the world will keep turning and we'll keep shaking our heads at how very little it honestly takes to solidly take another old white man for his money.

Why bother posting?  Because this shit is *embarrassing* to the rest of us.  Making us all look like idiots.  "Hey look, there's another 'farang'".  Thanks, OP, propagating the stereotype of the dumb white guy.

(also sorry, sucks for your loss.  record more vids, and try to get out of there in one piece)

  3. BREAKING: Countless aging expats have been reported seen leaving the country, seemingly overnight.

Described by locals as overweight, with red faces and a penchant for drinking beer at 10AM, their departure is leaving countless Isaan homes vacant, along with many bar wives and their decidedly Thai offspring in a state of confusion (and mostly relief). Some speculate that this may have been the first time in all recorded history, that middle aged British men made true on their otherwise equally countless and hollow Internet forum threats.

Oh no, wait .. ya'll are still here. None of the millions of UK security cameras, or completely pervasive UK Internet surveillance picked up any returning alcoholics to British shores.

  4. I believe I have heard of people getting a residency cert/drivers lic on a tourist visa. Think you just need a lease agreement or letter from hotel etc to confirm where you are staying. Try a google search or search this forum, there is plenty of up to date info. Good luck!

    "I believe I've heard" ... that's handy! ;)

I searched the forums, obviously, before going through the trouble of posting a whole new thread. Because, other threads say, no residence paper without 90 day reporting in Bangkok.

Would be awesome to catch someone who happens across this thread, with actionable advice!

  5. Attempted to get a residence certificate at ze German embassy in Bangkok the other day, and was told that my tourist visa status wasn't good enough for their esteemed and glorious rules.

    Germans.

I read here somewhere on the forum that Bangkok Immigration doesn't issue residence permits to vagrants like myself, who aren't on some kind of visa requiring the 90 day dance. Which is leaving me a little confounded ....

Any ideas or pointers on how to get a residence certificate, or other creative means to obtain a driver's license (and ideally though optionally, get my own name into the new motorbike greenbook)? I'm not worried about fees and such, just would like to be semi legit with the riding adventures on occasion.

    Input appreciated.

  6. There are no options at them moment for you to get a non-o visa for being the parent of a non Thai child.. Once your child is old enough to attend school you could get one as their parent.

If you were to get married you could get one as your wife's dependent if she is on a normal extension of stay based upon working.

The METV seems to be the best option at this time.

Amazing summary, Joe. Thanks for the insights!

Will have to make a trip to Europe, though more fun to do that in the spring. Maybe one single entry tourist visa first. Only thing that is leaving me curious is whether there is a rule about how many tourist visas one can have (two so far) and still get the METV.

  7. Been digging around the forum looking for answer to this, to no avail. So here it is, for the visa sages here:

Previously infrequent visitor to Thailand, under 50, (somewhat) hands-off business in Hong Kong. Ended up with girlfriend legally working in Thailand, though Myanmar citizen, getting pregnant.

Baby is now a month old. Considering visa options to facilitate being around for the baby things.

Looking at the six month multi-entry tourist visa as an option (pretty handy), though I'd technically not really be a tourist. My income is generated through my offices in Hong Kong, where I need to visit somewhat occasionally (hence not ideal to have single entry visas). Seeing that there are non-o options for parents of Thai children, but not so much for parents of Thailand born children whose mother isn't a Thai national.

Any ideas? Can I go the route of establishing guardianship and do non-o to take care of the child while here? Proof of $$$ non-issue, flexible on travel and not necessarily trying to do things the cheapest way possible (saw the whatever VIP visa scheme, though that doesn't appeal so much - longer than necessary, not fully trusting the government, and it's not exactly frugal either).

    Insights appreciated.
