  1. I am an expat living in Chiangmai .Some of the comments seem to be from bigots(I have never voted Tory) but some of the ignorant comments astound me(just like the farang who hang out in bars and frequent bar girls and 'massage' shops all over Thailand.)sad.png

so how do you know "these farangs" who hang out in bars, frequent bar girls or "massage shops" unless you have been there and are speaking from first hand experience ?

    whistling.gif

    and your off topic anyway

"I am an expat living in Chiangma"

Translation...I am a self righteous, retired Mr Grumpy...who thinks he is better than everyone else

  2. My guess is the 30 baht is for the visit. She may have had to pay extra for the medicine...

When I go to the local hospital I take my registration card and I always pay for the medicine as do most people.

However as I am a farang I am grossly overcharged for the doctors fee.

Most times I am charged as much as 70 baht.

Do you think if I wrote and complained to the PM that he would do something about it?

    Signed

Retired and miserable old fart in rural Thailand

Maybe the OP should consider doing advanced first aid training, just think of all the money he could save treating simple cases like this himself

  3. I think maybe................

It is that obvious isnt it...?

    the give away was...

"I am from the US.... I feel like a berk, Joe"

An American using a very specific UK term like "berk"

The troll is from the UK pretending to be an American...and has failed

  4. Did she have her health card with her, was the clinic registered to accept the health card?

And surely you are not so parsimonious as to begrudge the gigantic sum of 200 baht for the treatment of your good lady wife's leg injury.

Why not invest in a private health policy that provides comprehensive cover for both of you ?

WOW such a kerfuffel over USD 4.0 of treatment and medication...

  5. In the UK it is a VERY offensive word to call a gay person.

Its just the same and using the 'N' word for black people.

People who are not in minority groups can not really understand how hurtful and upsetting these words are if people say them to you.

Some people have said people can call them what they like... but that is because they are not in a minority group and have not been attacked, beaten up, discriminated against and bullied for what they are.

Have a bit of empathy for other people! Just because a word is not offensive in your country does not mean it isn't in another place. Learn a few very offensive Thai words and use them on Thais... then when you get into trouble.. tell them its not offensive in your country.. see how that goes.

Well to keep the thread on topic...in France a court has judged its not....

  6. Springsteen is ranked #14 in a list of Rock & Roll singers net worth.

His earnings are estimated $80 million per year.

He falls just below other talentless hacks like McCartney, Jagger & Elton John.

Earnings are no measure of talent...the Kardashian clan has a net worth around USD 300 million and don't think there would be any disagreement they are talentless ?

out the 3 you mention only one has any real talent..and that's McCartney...Jagger is singer in the band and someone else writes Elton John's material

  7. I'm not seeing people trying to continue on with Nero's etc. politics, if so i'd probably agree with you. Hitler still has a following, Auschwitz and Dachau are enough of a memorial, no sense holding on to anything directly related to Hitler's life. Plow it under and replant.

Could the Neo-Nazi's not also try to use the remnants of Auschwitz and Dachau as "Shrines" ?....if so then we need to bulldoze them as well ?....good or bad its historically significant..

what your proposing is no different from what ISIS is actively engaged in some middle east country blowing up and destroying historically significant site and artefacts, because they maybe don't like that version of the history and are therefore trying to erase it.

  8. To prevent it from being a shrine for the neo-nazis. Doesn't make much sense to spend money on preserving it.

if we use that sort of logic...lets bulldoze Rome as well then and not preserve that either...plenty of "shrines" to despots there as well

  9. Do love how many of those who are against gay rights cover their prejudice by attacking Springsteen's musical abilities.... boycott of SA back when also had effects on those against apartheid (the majority of population, I dare say). In spite of ban on international sports, etc, they were smart enough to understand it was important part of larger struggle. Springsteen's fans also smart enough to figure this out, I reckon.

WOW the professionally offended strike again...one attacks Springsteens musical ability because he is a talentless hack... so you must be anti-gay, that's about as delusion as as equating a dislike for sushi as being anti Japanese.

  10. Funny stuff. The English definition for faggot is a piece of firewood.

No idea how the word became used for referring to gay men.....

thats correct and in the middle ages they used gay men as faggots at the bottom of a fire to burn witches

no its not...it refers to a bundle of sticks as a unit of measurement, not a piece of fire wood

in the unit of measurement there is a short faggot measuring 3 feet in length by 2 feet in circumference and a long faggot measuring measures a length greater than 3 feet

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Faggot_(unit)

  11. A very weak piece indeed, intended to be humorous...fail

Chinese tourists visit shops, ride on buses, smoke and eat...riveting stuff indeed

They might get more mileage on a expose' one the local beer bar farang residents/walts who claim to be EX-SAS, EX-Navy seals, EX senior managers of multi-nationals, you know the types, wash up on Thailands fair shores and re-invent themselves....one week executive of a MNC, the next a property tycoon

    How about a piece entitled "A Walt-A-week"

Thought it was far more interesting than your "Riveting" little exercise.

and everyone is entitled to an opinion of course, but in my defence..my paragraph took all of 30 seconds to write, and I am not trying to portray myself a "professional" writer...the subject matter is poorly selected "as the first in a series"...the piece clichéd and the prose is poor and clunky,

the writer is obviously not cut out for writing satirical pieces and maybe should stick to writing "property for sale" advertisements

  12. Ridiculous, hardly surprising the French have ' social ' problems with minorities when the 'powers to be' make stupid insensitive decisions such as this.

Sent from my GT-I9000 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

I for one, (and I am not given to even liking the the froggies), applaud the French court in this case in not bowing down to the professionally offended and for once at least common sense prevails

    Vive la France

  13. Don't be daft! The f word when directed at gay people is unambiguously a hateful slur word. Get real. I was talking about context in the sense of its use for meatball, sticks, or ciggies.

I am offended you are referring to me as "daft", this is intended as a hateful unambiguous slur and name calling .......so lets ban the word "daft", stupid and silly while we are at it shall we ?

On that note of massive INANITY I will now EXIT the thread.

I've said what I need to say on the topic, multiple times now, so nothing more to say.

On the OP, I agree with the OP that the f word is both an anti-gay slur word but also of course it should NOT be illegal to use in France (or anywhere).

Carry on boys, but I'm OUT OF HERE.

Ok nice chatting...I am going to have some faggots for dinner...thumbsup.gif

  15. Yes that is well known and also off topic.

The topic is that in France the word though not French is recognized as a slur.

I assert that if you're British, Aussie etc. and you don't know that one of the meanings of the word is a slur even though you may not use the word that way locally ... you've been living in a cave.

But I get it. People are taking the piss. Nobody believes you don't know that meaning of word or you can't tell by context when it used that way.

    Next ...

So your suggesting people should stop using the term locally, just because an American thousands of miles away came up with an alternate connotation of the word when referring to a homosexual and people in America are offended by it so people elsewhere in the world should stop using the term when referring to a meatball, collection of sticks or a winded musical instrument.....Given the PC insanity I suppose a people would be offended by the phrase "blowing a faggot" then ?

The interpretation of which rests solely in the mind of the reader...

I'm suggesting its a slur word in context so if you're using it as a slur word in obvious context that's your choice if your intention is to express hatred to gays. Obviously this has nothing to do with its usage about meatballs and ciggies.

most words in the English language can be turned into a slur by context and tone....and its big jump by the way from a "slur" to out and out hatred, so please don't try that one on..
