  1. I note the PDF at Penang states 220 MYR for the single entry-and 90 days- any idea if this info is current?

    http://www.thaiembassy.org/penang/contents/files/services-20140508-110623-169095.pdf

Since September of last year the fee is 300 MYR for a single entry non immigrant visa. See: http://www.thaiembassy.org/penang/contents/files/news-20150731-103408-798023.pdf

I just mentioned this on the other thread I started, sorry to repeat but it might be of interest to others- the single tourist visa on that PDF states 90 days, but it's really 60 days and then a 30 day extension can be applied for inside Thailand at immigration. Do you think the Non Immigrant O visa will be the same or do you know for a fact it is 90 days?

    Thanks for your help, again.

  2. A single entry non-o visa will allow you a 90 day entry.

Visa fees are shown here in this announcement: http://www.thaiembassy.org/penang/contents/files/news-20150731-103408-798023.pdf

I doubt you will be able to get a transit visa. The only extension you can get for the 30 day entry is 7 days to leave the country.

You would stand a better chance of getting a single entry tourist visa that would allow a 60 day entry.

This would be my third tourist visa from Penang so doubtful it would be issued.

I note that "updated" PDF has 90 day entry on the tourist visa, which is incorrect. So are you sure about the O entry of 90 days? Is it 60 like the tourist and then can apply for 30 day extension at immigration?

For reasons I won't go into I need to be in Penang. I'm confident I can get the O, I have the supporting docs and spoke to them about it in March.

I was weighing IF I could not get the O, would a transit be worth it instead of a last minute flight to say.. Laos for a Tourist visa

All I need is 90 more days.. and avoiding trips to immigration within Thailand is always a consideration.

    Thanks again for your help.

  3. You will not get a OA visa in Penang unless you are Malaysian or a resident.

You can apply for a single entry non-o visa for being 50 or over. You will need to show 800k baht in the bank or proof of 65k baht income or a combination of the two totaling 800k baht. The fee is 300 MYR.

You might be able to get a multiple entry non-o visa (750 MYR) by showing the same financial proof. But if you have the financial proof it would be best to get a single entry visa and apply for an extension of stay at immigration here.

    Thank you for this reply.

O Visa then. Sorry I got a bit mixed up meaning whatever visa I would later have the option of extending the permission to stay under on grounds of retirement. Currently, the PDF at link does not mentions "O" as having anything to do with retirement but instead is used to accompany a family member.

300 MY ringett gives me one entry good for 90 days?

I am also considering a Transit visa but only if that can be extended for additional 30 days.

Wish Penang would update the fees that PDF- or put info in English on the main page- at least the fees should be current.

Currently the PDF at link does not mentions "O" as having anything to do with retirement but instead is used to accompany a family member.

  4. Any idea as to the current fee for O-A retirement visa in Penang? And is the multi entry available?

Is single entry for a full 90 days ?

If I get a 1 year , multi-entry I understand that gives me 90 day entries, is there any follow up to be done at immigration inside Thailand ?

Do they take Thai baht or is it MY ringett only?

I see this link to a PDF but it seems dated.

    Thank you for any replies.

  5. Thailand does have high rates of violent crimes when compared to selected developed countries, but the incidence is largely confined to Thais themselves, that is domestic disputes between Thais, violent bank robberies and petty crime. The area where there seems to be some violence is between foreigners and Thai women who are in some sort of relationship, particularly those of a commercial nature. So I am not sure that projecting overall national crime rates onto particular discrete groups such as tourists/ expats is very useful. I also suspect in the case of tourists, there would be a higher incidence of violence against violent drunks and drug users, and that drunken British "lager louts", bronzed Aussie heroes, would be over represented as victims and perpetrators of violence but usually occur when because of their loutish behavior, bite off more than they can chew and pay the price. I haven't forgotten the Russians who for other reasons figure prominently in reports of violence, but for different reasons and Russia cannot be considered a law abiding country by any fair measure.

Logical and may be wishful thinking on your part, but statistically not true.

Most violence against foreigners appears entirely random.

One example, the couple of Brits murdered on Koh Tao, neither appeared to fit into your theory.

Another example, the French diving instructor found dead in the jungle recently, disappeared from a mid-day ferry journey.

That ferry was actually late night, not mid-day, and there has been no suggestion Mr Louet met with violence. In fact he had some recent health issues as reported by his girlfriend and pictures of him with a swollen arm bear it out.

  6. I'll say I'm glad to be old. 30-40 years ago I was lucky enough to be visiting places and doing things that are completely impossible now. Not to mention that there are now three times as many people on the planet compared to when I was young (and even back then there were ten times too many).

My nephew and niece are in their teens and I pity them.

in the late 90's I visited the Great Pyramid, and was able to go inside and crawl my way up into the sarcophagus room, they don't let tourists do that anymore- not that any tourists go to Cairo these days.

And when the guard left for his lunch I was there, by myself for about 1/2 an hour.

If time has a voice, I heard it that day.

  7. The world in 50 years will not be a pleasant place except for about 1% of the population.

I think even in 20 years , the middle class of the western nations will suffer a marked decline in living standards- the poor in developing nations will simply become destitute, and the 3rd world nations will sink further into hell hole'lisnness and be unrecognizable as civilazations.

I'm very glad to not be younger, my generation had the best of it all- right at the pinnacle of comforts and ease of life. I feel very lucky to be my age

  8. I always chuckle when I see Thai buildings with the long/ short roof, and the short roof is facing north west.

(Would that be called a cantilevered roof?)

Take a great idea and turn it completely opposite of its purpose- install a heater on top of your home.

  9. Far too many deaths of foreigners in Thailand are called suicides.

Cases where people" fall" or " jump" of of balconies.

And even cases where people "hang themselves" with their hands tied behind their backs

It saves the police a lot of work and,,

It's only a farang, so who cares?

And even cases where people "hang themselves" with their hands tied behind their backs

It's not unheard to hang one's self in this manner. It's referred to as the "no way out" method.

    http://www.academia.edu/903627/Precautions_Taken_to_Avoid_Abandoning_the_Act_of_Hanging_and_Reducing_Pain_in_Suicidal_Hanging_Cases

In the Koh -Tao murder myth- making machinations, with the suicide hanging death of Dimitri Povse, this erred claim; "Hands tied behind the back is impossible.." to dismiss the findings has been used along with the more recent accidental falling and/or drowning death of Luke Miller to incite and foster an aura of doubt.

Ms. Annesley death from drug use in combination with alcohol ( and a lung infection) was also exploited in this manner.

    Pretty disgusting.

It's quite deliberate and I believe was part of a " defense" strategy for the two convicted murderers of Hannah Witheridge and David Miller, ( the only real Koh Tao murders, IMO ) I've seen a correspondence directing a group of supporters on Koh Samui to " spread and sow speculation undermining a belief the real murderers have been caught." And that is precisely what they are doing.

Alas, justice prevailed as it appears Samui judges do not read foreigner facebook group propaganda ( usually in guise of "Justice..." ) and those baby faced rapists and killers will be spending the rest of their lives in a not very comfortable situation.

  10. I'm interested in fact, not emotion, not bar stool stories, not "I think I know", not "my Thai wife knows", just fact and I tend to trust the UK government on this kind of data.

My last Thai gf admitted to killing her Swedish husband.

The Thai authorities recorded his death as a RTA (hit and run), which is what the Swedish government accepted.

Once again that's a view that is based on suspicion alone, zero fact. In favour of the opposite view is that UK authorities might become a little suspicious where a body is returned to the UK containing bullet holes or knife wounds where the cause of death was listed as suicide, don't you think!

Most foreigners are cremated in Thailand, very soon after their death.

I don't think many are killed by guns or knives.

More likely RTAs or balcony falls, or died of natural causes.

What about all those mysterious deaths in the CM Deathtown Inn ......

did any foreign path labs rule on cause of death?

did they even get to examine the bodies?

    I think not.

Those were attributed to incorrect usage of pesticides. Lot of ways to die here through someone else's stupidity without having to feed into the rampant murder conspiracies of casual tourists, who often are behaving in risky ways such as youths doing the Full Moon parties.

  11. The income affidavit is addressed to immigration in Bangkok. But the nearby Thai embassies and consulates will accept them. As said make copy and attach it to the visa application and keep the original to sappy for the extension.

    "Thai Immigration Bureau 1

    Government Complex Bldg. B
    (2nd Floor, South Zone)
    Chaengwattana Road
    Toong Song Hong, Laksi
    Bangkok 10210
    Dear Sir/Madam"
Download of the affidavit and link to fill it out online is here: http://bangkok.usembassy.gov/service/notarial-services.html#income_affidavit

Does it need the embassy to stamp it as certified or can you fill it out and present it to Penang?

Can you use a Thai notary or official?

  12. "You maybe (probably are!) correct but that is not what the OP says or asks about !"

Maybe it could have been worded differently to make it clearer, but I think ubonjoe is correct about what the OP really wants.

OP, give the consulate a copy of the income letter, not the original. That way you won't need to get another one when you do the extension at immigration.

Can I ask, please, is the letter in Thai or English and if English would Penang accept it, or does it need to be translated into Thai by the Thai or US embassy in Thailand or Malaysia?

  13. Basically:

    (1) Get a Non-Immigrant O-A visa from the embassy. This is valid either for 3 months or for 1 year (usually the former).

    (2) Once in Thailand, open the bank account and make the requisite deposit in the given timeframe, and apply for a visa extension based on retirement at the Immgiration office close to where you live. This will be valid for a year, but if you need to travel outside of Thailand and go back, you need to obtain a re-entry permit (some people like to do this at the same time as the extension). You can get the new retirement extensions every year, as long as you qualify.

O/A visas are always valid for one year and visas are never extended.

Please refrain from posting misleading nonsense.

If you do not know then do not post.

The terminology nazis are at it again... and very aggressive (and rude) about it too...

... are you saying that after the original non-O visa expires, and you're on yearly extension based on retirement, you no longer have a visa? So if someone, after the first year or so asks you what visa you have, what do you say? Sorry, I don't have a visa, it expired last year?

Yet, every entry stamp I have states clearly, on the stamp, that I have a: Visa Class: Non-RE... and I have dozens of stamps to prove that.

I THINK the biggest difference would be that extension of stay can evaporate, such as if you become unemployed- you have 24 hours to leave the country ( but can apply for extension- wonder if they turn that down ever, what a horror that would be.)

If you are on your initial visa, then you have until the " permission to stay " date which could be up to 90 days future, depending on visa.

And to go really OT, sorry- Curious as to how easy it for immigration to cancel a visa as opposed to a extension should they wish.

  14. Documents required from the company in Thailand:

6.1 Letter indicating applicant’s name, passport number and the objective of the visit to Thailand, etc., requesting for Non-Immigration Type ‘B’ visa.
6.2 Copy of the company’s registration and business license.
6.3 Copy of the company’s list of shareholders.
6.4 Copy of the company’s latest balance sheet.
6.5 Copy of the company’s registration of value-added tax (VAT).
6.6 Map indicating the location of the company.
I have some questions, please. This is about getting a B to work for a company.
Is this list current ? ( Going to Penang)
What should be in the letter specifically about " visit to Thailand" Does the occupation need to be spelled out in detail
Does that map have to be hand drawn? I have read google maps are not accepted at some places.
Thank you in advance for any replies.
